I have a set for hunting and a set for practice. The practice ones are usually just broadheads that Ive already used.

Oh relax for crying out loud. Just because I do not get all hostile and disagreeable whenever someone thinks they saw a mountain lion, and simply because I have not made the subject the center of my universe doesn't mean that I can't have an opinion. If that bothers you, then maybe internet forums are not for you! Probably too much has already been made of what you think it should take to convince you. Frankly that discussion doesn't interest me. For me, if someone thinks they saw a mountain lion, I am not going to make a career out of trying to prove them a liar. That sort of thing just doesn't interest or entertain me at all. I don't know whether as a child you got frightened by a mountain lion story or what, but man, you take this stuff way too seriously. : Its just my opinion Doc, dont try and make it out like Im having a heart attack over it or making a career out of anything. Sorry if the facts offend you in some way.

Gun advice please
WNYBuckHunter replied to Shoot_Straight's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Also, if you cant find a gun with a stock that feels just right, you can always pick up an aftermarket stock and replace it. -
I have heard store workers explaining to customers how to use the bait in front of a trail cam to get more pictures. I have also walked up to them and advised them that it is illegal to bait deer at any time of the year.

I would have snapped that lighter in half because it wouldnt light lol I came across one of those nest years ago. Luckily I only got stung once, but I poured a bunch of diesel down the hole and lit it on fire.

First I sight in with field tips, then I tune for broadheads. If your bow is properly tuned, your broadheads and field points will hit the same. Fixed blade or mechanical.

So you havent read anything much about it, yet you just feel the need to rattle on about scalp conditions and a ML with an affinity for mud? Seems to me if they went through the trouble to collect the evidence that was given to them, do DNA testing on hair found, etc, that the powers that be did take the reports seriously. I also think that they took those sightings seriously because people brought forth evidence, like photos of tracks, hair and other things. You can sit here and spout off smart remarks all you want, but the fact remains that until now, not a single shred of evidence of a wild ML in NY has existed in the last 100 years. Like has been said, all of these sightings, yet no tracks found when the ground is wet, or theres snow. What, do they all head south for the winter? 99% of the claims turn out to be someone having their leg pulled or just plain misidentification of dogs, housecats, coyotes, bobcats, fishers, etc. My favorite was the one from Belmot or Belfast a couple of years ago, complete with pictures and it was reported by a news paper. I commented on their website, as did a few others and those comments caused them to check their picture with measurements of other objects in the frame and it turned out to be a house cat. They posted a retraction a couple of days later. Comparing it to bear and coyote sightings of the past is pretty silly since bears lived in the state and in northern PA, and the same for coyotes. MLs do not have a nearby home range. I have said before that I would take ML sighting seriously if someone brought some real, verifiable evidence forward with the claim. The rest are mostly misinformation and on par with Chupacabra sightings.

I felt it here, the water in my fish tank looked like it was gonna slosh out of it and the whole house was creaking and groaning. It shook us for between 10 and 30 seconds. Never felt anything like that before.

Tree Stand Up
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
those cris cross straps dont help you stand the ladder stand up by yourself. Singles are usually not too bad to do yourself, but the big 2 man stands are another story all together. Also, remember, you dont have to place these right where you want the bottom of the stand, just within a foot or so. Should be enough leeway to get around rocks or roots. If not, then youll need to do it another way. For most places though, these would work fine. -
Im with you. I bought my daughter a pair of sandals that were on sale there the other day. That will most likely be the last money of mine they see. Dicks will price match plus give me great coupons. I bought a box of target loads at GM last week (100 rounds) and it cost $29.99, the other day I was at Walmart and the same box is $22.99

I cant remember exactly where I came across the website for the Tree Stand Up, but I thought it looked like a pretty good product that would come in very handy, as I usually dont have help setting up my stands. Last week, I placed my order and I received the package last night. My first impression was that they need to use better packaging for shipment. Mine came in a USPS envelope, which was crumpled and had a bunch of holes from where the product punched through. They really should use a box instead or even a padded, thick envelope would work. Upon opening the package, all pieces were separate and individually wrapped, which kept them from getting scratched up. All of the pieces are very nice, with great welds and a nice powder coat finish, which should keep them rust free as long as I clean them after using them. I put them together in just a minute or two and am happy with them in the quality department. The only thing I will be doing is to put a little loc-tite on the bolts to keep them tight. I will be trying them out with a single ladder stand tonight, and then again this weekend with my 2 man stand, so my review will continue later. Heres the link to the website http://www.treestandup.com/index.php Here are a few pics of the product.

No offense Rob, but the DEC makes it pretty clear on their website, hunting guide, etc that baiting is illegal. I think half the problem with baiting is that most guys just do not read the info that the DEC puts out there and then say that they didnt know it was illegal. To me, its like saying that you thought that it was only illegal to run a stop sign if there are other cars at the intersection.

I hear what you are saying, but how then do you explain that the only time a ML has been verified as being wild and has traveled through NY, it left a trail of evidence through multiple states, yet 99% of the sightings you hear about result in no evidence what so ever? Ask people that live in areas where ML actually live how tough it is to find evidence of them being there.

Arrows, what are some good ones? Anyone buy new ones recently?
WNYBuckHunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
I got my arrows today, they are great, and just how I wanted them. -
Bow square. You want to try and find a manual for your bow, as it should have at least some suggestions on where your nock point should be. Heres some basic bow tuning info http://www.centenaryarchers.gil.com.au/basic1.htm

What fields? ??? We have no fields. And don't tell me about the ground. I just came off the hill and the ground is like a brick. There are no tracks (as in zero tracks). Even the ATV made no tracks going up the hill. There is no mud and unbroken ground is as hard as pavement even now. And yes we have had a lot of rain and it has all pretty much just run off. In fact we had rain just last night and there's not a bit of moisture left this afternoon. Lol... you flatlanders check out your farm fields and think you have looked at the whole world ;D . You a little testy today Doc? :

Make sure your nock point isnt off. That could cause the arrow to do that.

Anyone have the "readers digest" version of...
WNYBuckHunter replied to Grizz1219's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
Weve got a lengthy thread about it on here lol. Here is the original thread... http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php/topic,4930.0.html And the thread pertaining to the clarification of the plan that the DEC released.... http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php/topic,5149.0.html Both are good reads and you should probably comment in them. No reason to get another one going lol. -

WNYBuckHunter replied to Grizz1219's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
I think he might be referring to the 5 year plan proposal, which is not law BTW. That info is here http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7211.html#DeerPlan -
I agree. We had quite a few bait pics last year and I tried my best to call out those that I saw. Id rather not see baited pics, its just proof of your illegal activity.

Looks good! Cant wait to see it shoot!

Doc, read the articles concerning this cat, they have hair, scat and prints in multiple states that they have tracked down to this one cat. As far as the ground being hard, I beg to differ, there are fresh bear, deer, coyote, coon and fox prints all over the place in the fields and woods right around my place. Its been raining pretty good for a month.
