Thanks guys. Yes, right now all we have is the smooth bore with the 3 choke tubes. But I'm looking at all options. Rifled barrels or rifled choke tubes are being concidered. I want to hear it all. I'm curious about these tru ball slugs that some you are raving about. I've never heard of them.

Howdy, My daughter will be hitting the woods this fall for deer with her 20 gauge Mossberg 500 Bantam. Right now she has the field barrel with the 3 choke tubes. For those of you shooting Mossberg 500 in 20 gauge, what barrel and slug combinations are working well for you?

The Open Range final shootout was my vote too.

I do plenty to spread the word about hunting but it's a fine line without upsetting parents. The kids definitely know that I'm an outdoorsman. If I remember I'll post some pictures from my classroom or if you want PM me you cell phone and I will text them to you.

LOL! No I'm not the fuzz. Dan had it right, I'm a school teacher and yes my query is 100% genuine. I'm sorry I have not checked in sooner but after working with computers all day at school I really don't feel like getting on my home computer when I get home. I used to check in with you guys on my free periods but this site got banned on our school firewall for violence. Funny I can get on Archerytalk and several others but I think because you have the word "hunting" in you address the firewall pics it up. Thanks Dan for sticking up for me.

Thanks for everyone's input, I have enjoyed reading your comments. For the record, I did take her duck hunting but not on the youth weekend. We went in October and we BOTH could buy duck stamps since I was then able to hunt with her. Here is a photo from that day. It was her first kill ever and you have no idea how happy she was. My point for this entire conversation is simple. If you are going to make a parent come along on the youth hunt empty handed then they should not have to buy a stamp.

Noltz's near Lowville makes the best venison dogs I've ever had.

Unfortunately we don't have any winter leagues in my area.

So I get a letter from the DEC asking me questions if I did or did not participate in their Youth Waterfowl Weekend last fall and why. So I answer their generic questions then write a letter explaining why I didn't take her on their weekend. It was because I had to buy a duck stamp and register with HIP. Now I don't duck hunt, it's not my thing, but because of Duck Dynasty my 12 year old daughter wanted to shoot ducks. Hey, I would go shoot penguins if that would get my daughter interested in hunting. But my beef is, if I cannot hunt ducks on the youth weekend with my daughter why do I have to but a duck stamp and register with HIP. It's like making a deer hunting mentor buy a doe permit that he cannot use on the youth deer weekend. So I wrote them a letter and told that they should drop that requirement. Am I wrong?

I stopped at the Walmart in Rome yesterday. In a separate isle near the fishing section there is a bunch of archery supplies at half price. I got some Slick Trick mags for $15 a pack. There were Muzzys and others there as well. Go stock up while the getting is good.

It's so damn cold. I'm on vacation next week and it's too cold for ice fishing with the kids.

Neat! I used to have one of the Iver's.

One other suggestion. Trade it in. With the trade in value and what you are going to put into it, you could have a brand new Mission bow (also made by Matthews). Just a thought.

I have been using the LeveRevolution bullets in my Marlin since they came out. Awesome bullets!!! They have put 2 deer on the ground this year.

First crest is starting to go bad. I'd say 4.5- or 5.5 Dan. -
Same here, I shoot the 100 grain mag. Best broadhead I have ever shot.

Same here. I usually leave unless there is heavy rut activity.

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't aware of the shortage.

I going to the post office to get duck stamps for my daughter and myself tomorrow. This is first time I've bought duck stamps in 30 years. I cannot remember the process in buying one. Does my daughter have to come with me to buy them or will the post office let me buy both stamps?

That's a huge spike!

Very cool Dan. I've always wanted to make my own venison hamburgers. I'm going to try a blend today of ground venison and ground bacon and see how it comes out.
