  1. Took my boys out for some bottom fishing yesterday on my father's boat in Montauk. Almost limited on sea bass, a mackerel, one keeper fluke and a handful of porgies. Great day to be on the water. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  2. Finally got a chance to do some fishing myself. Surprisingly slow pick with full moon and right tide but was able to pickup a decent bass. Gorgeous night. Rain kicked in just as we were docking. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  3. While I was working my older son was out fishing. Ohhhh to be 15 again. He hasn't mastered the fishing pose yet. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  4. Agreed. Other tip is to make sure when loading line on the reel that the braid is soaking wet. It helps make sure the line is packed down correctly. Also same advice when tying knots with it. As noted, the feel you get with it is without comparison. Outstanding for live lined bait. Great for bass and eels where you need to wait for it to swallow the whole eel before setting the hook. 5. Ditto. Switching to braid, esp eeling for bass, made all the difference. Better feel and more consistent hookups. Mono backing on reel, then braid. Swivel attached with uni knot then florocarbon to terminal tackle. Snags break the floro below the swivel. Special pliers to help in tying the knots and cutting braid. Also, gloves to handle the line if you get a snag. Braid cuts right through your skin. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  6. Mako and a thresher. Someone brought in a porebeagle as well. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  7. Not my fish, but my son worked the shark tournament at Montauk Marine Basin this weekend and took a few photos. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  8. I second that. Have a beach house in Montauk and have seen Giants strolling along midday in the fall browsing on the landscaping. All in unhuntable residential areas (0.25 acre lots). Town of East Hampton also doesn't make it easy to hunt. There are big ones in Montauk state park, but it is thick beyond belief. I gave up on trying as I wasn't sure I would be able to recover anything I shot. They out there though and kudos to anyone who can put one on the ground and recover it. 9. Mine was in Tijuana. I don't think I can help you out given the bride's rules. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  10. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  11. My 11 year old son asked my 15 year old son what Black Widow's super powers are. He said you would understand better in two years. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  12. I am right handed and left eye dominant. I have always shot left handed. Felt natural from the beginning but did need to work on strengthening and dexterity in my left hand. I tried to shoot my son's right handed how once with left eye closed. I think my brain rebooted. Not doing that again. Whatever works for you. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  13. And with the 24th pick in the 1983 Draft the New York Jets select quarterback (cheers from crowd) Ken OBrien from Cal-Davis (croud shouts who?) Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  14. Neither. I hunt for the experience. Hearing the woods wake at sunrise, seeing the sunset over the mountains. The thrill of seeing movement through the trees and wondering what it is. Trying to stalk a wary deer whether mature buck, spike, crusty old doe or button. Practicing to improve my bow skills, woodmanship or turkey calls. Whether it ends with a full freezer or mount on the wall is immaterial, I would still be out there, which is good, because most days it ends with me going home "unsuccessful" but content. 15. Yeah. Was scouting new areas today. Just as I was saying there's no way i can hunt this cause I don't think I'd be able to recover anything but a drop on the spot shot, I found him. Thick as could be with brambles. Hunter could have walked right past and not seen it. Too bad, but at least it provided a good meal to the forest creatures. 16. Not really a shed but a gift from the Easter Bunny this am. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  17. I don't want to derail the thread but since people were talking about bluefish.... This is what I do with them, particularly the larger ones I catch. Most people don't even know they are eating bluefish when I serve it. https://honest-food.net/bluefish-pate-recipe/ Key is smoke them fresh like the recipe says as they don't store well in freezer when uncooked. I usually substitute hummus for the cream cheese to make it a little heart healthier. I just finished the last batch from the gorilla I caught latelast summer. 18. Saw Rinella handle this debate pretty well on the meat eater channel. Don't think I have seen anyone neuter an argument better. Apologies if it's been posted before. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  19. Ditto to what graybeard wrote. If you can make Montauk it's worth it. Fluking in Montauk has been spotty the last few Summers and regs are a mess. If you are looking to fill a cooler, target a party boat that goes for Black Sea bass and porgy. Fun action for a day or half day trip. Eeling for striped bass at night is killer on the right tide and moon. You are limited to one 28+ per day on stripers. You will pick up some bluefish as by catch as well. If you can make the trip all the way out to montauk, the Viking party boats sometimes run discounts if you book a day trip for sea bass porgy and a night bass trip. Winter fishing gets you Pollack, cod and blackfish. All cooler filling species. If you want to pay for a charter, they will often offer an inshore combo trip for all of the above. Catch your limit on one and move on to another species. Costs more but you control the day. I can give you recommendations on charters if you are interested. If you are comfortable going offshore, options expand from there. Shark, tuna, mahi, etc. Message me with any questions. Happy to help. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  20. Good luck and tight lines. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  21. No sweat. Regs are real confusing, at least to me. Show is great I agree. Breaks my heart when they snap one off. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  22. I gave up fishing for giant tuna when diesel went through the roof and the regulations got too confusing. I'll see a few still pulled in out in Montauk each summer. Fed's regulate tuna catch now and I believe the rules change each season and during the season as they update landings. Recreational and charters, I believe, usually get 1 or 2 slot catch per day between 47 and 73 inches, and one 73 plus per year, or something like that. If you are on a charter and are lucky enough to get that one giant for the boat for the year the captain most likely will take it. If the captain is operating under a commercial license (like the guys on the show), he may be able to keep more than just one per year. As you said, good to have the conversation before plunking on the charter. Regardless, a 73+ inch fish is a lot of tuna to take home. I think it would be illegal for you to sell it as well. 23. I haven't seen his car in his driveway since Friday during the storm. I think Carmel was the worst hit in Putnam so they may be hitting that first. Good luck getting power back. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  24. After living in Putnam County for 10+ years, I have learned the most important element in my power outage preparedness is to live on the same block as a NYSEG foreman. Not sure if it's a coincidence, but we certainly get power back quick. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
  25. Haven't been lost in the woods (yet). Did get lost out on the ocean once. Was sharking at butterfish hole ~25 years ago on a family friend's boat. No GPS, only LORAN. LORAN went down, pea soup fog rolled in and sharks in the slick. Never felt more lost in my life. Other than putting a course at NW, not sure what we would have done. Luckily LORAN came back. We'd still be out there trying to use a sextant. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk
