Going to be in the corner swamp stand. Probably my 25 opening day in this spot. I sit there and remember all the deer taken, and missed from the 5 stands that have leaned against this tree over the yrs.

Only my 2nd morning hunt. 4U, 20° and 15 mph winds. More of a check the stand and area scouting trip for Saturday morning. 3 does and a decent 8 pushing them around. No shot opportunity. -
Haven't gotten mine yet. Hopefully tomorrow.

Now that's the way to get it done. Congrats CF on two great deer. -
I love the bleat can. I've called in many bucks with one. Usually it's a buck that isn't in range (bow) and lots of times it pulls him in. One spot I hunt is a very thick pinch point in a swamp. During rifle I'll use the can and grunts to try and pull bucks out of the thickets. One time after grunting, I had 3 bucks converge on my spot and a fight ensued. They were all smaller bucks and there racket drew the attention of a nice 8 pt. Doesn't work every time, but it's something I use if the conditions are right.

Bucks were going crazy this afternoon. I seen 5 different bucks. Two nice 8's. Grunted the smaller of the two into 50yrds. Nephew seen 3 bucks chasing a doe. No shot for him either. To make things worse, he was letting his bow down, and the haul rope slipped out of his hands. Bow hit hard enough to pop the string off the cams. Off to the bow shop tomorrow to get it restrung. -
I use a round stationary single pin. I sight in at 20yrds, and I'm 4" low at 30, which is my max range. I kept drilling my peep out until the sights aperture fit perfectly in the peep at full draw. Making it easier to verify my anchor point. It's been working for me for many years.

Pinch points between bedding/feeding areas are where I like to set up.

My cousin has the top and blind around his. Definitely helps.

Nephew and I didn't hunt this morning. This guy was in front of the cam/stand all night long. Nephew was mad at himself for not wanting to get up. Told him he most likely would have spooked him getting in the stand. -
I'm thinking about getting on just for rifle. Little buddy heater, and a comfy sit is sounding better and better.

Look on CL or market place for a older commercial grinder. Some guy think there stuff is gold, but you can find a decent #22 sized unit for a few hundred. Only downfall, there heavy. I've got 2 #22's. One Stimpson from the '50s and a globe from the 70s. Both work great. Both have processed 1000's pounds of meat, and parts are available. I burnt out a brand new kitchen aid mixer the first time I used it.

Cousin has 3. Fantastic for rifle, not so much for bow. His are the open ones you see a Walmart.

Nephew just missed a spike. His first shot at a buck with the bow. -

Figured I'd move from the Berkshire spur stand to somewhere alot quieter. Now I've got probably 2000 grackles eating these little yellow berries and making more noise then a convoy of 18 wheelers. -
Yes. That's what the DEC agent told my buddy when he called them the other day. She said the calls have been non-stop about the issues. Supposedly everyone should have the correct documents by the 18th.

I'm seeing the most activity in the thickest nastiest stuff. It's been so dry in my area for a few months, that the swamp is about dry except in the middle. The deer are using it more than I've ever seen in the 30 yrs I've hunted it.

Tried hot cider once..... Loving it until I got up to move around. Gurgling started, and I barley had enough time to get the pants down before I lost my grip. It wasn't pretty. Heated insoles are fantastic. I've got the ones you can remove the batteries. I've got a second set of batteries charging while I'm out hunting.

Congrats. I'm sure you'll both get lots of use out of it. Oops quoted the wrong post. Congrats Otto.

Buddy called DEC. Vendor messed up and sent incomplete documents to entire state. Everyone should have replacement by the 18th.
-
I shouldn't have to pay a reprint fee. They obviously messed up and I'm hoping they fix it.

Got a call from another buddy of mine who got the same thing... No carcass tag. Thinking DEC had a glitch in their system and will be getting a few calls in the morning.
