Robs huntandfish journal

Tried a little shore fishing at 4am. 10 casts and I was out. Too cold, no hits and no fish chasing minnows. Wind was in wrong direction but worth a shot. Could still get some I am sure if I was there and hour plus. But when it's cold like this I just try to hit them when they are stacked for a quick limit. Seems so weird to be off and not hunting this morn. Gonna go pull a cam in Augusta and take the bow this afternoon. Cam has been there since Sept and never hunted the stand near there. Still have a doe tag I could use so we will see. Plus it's gonna be beautiful out and I have a day off! -

Good luck nontypical. Sounds like a kill shot and you made the good choice to back out. Will look forward to the hero pics! -

Do u guys use Tinks sent bombs during rut
Robhuntandfish replied to luberhill's topic in Deer Hunting
i use it at spots that are perennially scrapes and licking branches. Does it work?? dunno but deer seem to investigate it and anything to help them not pay attention to the fat guy in a tree has gotta help. There is a dripper in this tree and they seem to like it. -
just because no pics didnt mean they werent there. just means they didnt walk by the camera. I get dry spells on cams too at times. I usually like to run at least 3 spread out to get a better idea

nice. Damn someone engineered with some smarts on that.

whoa thats a monster! Im afraid to check my cams having filled the buck tag and see deer like that around. Hopefully he is around for you on the gun opener

congrats guys! you make a great team! -
you use a stuffer or attachment on a grinder? They sound like they are easier to use. Must be the collagen ones? I usually buy natural casings from syracuse casings- they sell them at the local price chopper. They are packed in salt and have to rinse before use. They go quick so i usually start looking for them in August to get ready for season. I have three containers put away. I have an attachment on my kitchen aid that i use that works pretty well for a stuffer.

Looks great! I've got casings and spices ready to go for some sausage this week too.

Was thinking this was your kinda day. Snow on the ground for you is boots on the ground. If it's windy and cold walking and tracking is def the way to go. Sounds like a fun day despite the miss. Hope u get another chance on him -
Had one like that last season I chased around. Was within shooting distance of him twice both times were as I was walking out in the dark. Good luck, hope you get him. It's like 2 deer for the freezer.

Yeah he's a beast. If he's symetrical should be a 10. Haven't gotten him on camera before. Have a stand 31 yards from this cam. @FISHDO is drooling over this one and has the lease to himself mostly now til gun. I might go out on fringes and see if I can fill a doe tag but the rest is his. Although I told him maybe I will start duck hunting everyday there now. Lol. Several good bucks on cam and hope he downs one. He's off all week. Gun season I will be looking for one of them again. -

you know Biz , i think I do. Pulled card near the stand i was in on the way in that afternoon and just went thru cards and I think this is him just after midnight that day. kinda cool. Looks like he is chasing some does. and a couple days earlier too. -
Is the peak rut the same time every year?
Robhuntandfish replied to Whereareyoubuck's topic in Bow Hunting
game trails and anywhere doe will be or bedded. Fields a lot of times they are on the move across and not just grazing anymore, but if you have trails into those fields or field edges those are good. Hunting fields a lot of times in the rut you might see a lot of deer but they arent just hanging out there. I like to hunt where does bed if you can find these spots and hunt trails going in or out. -
Has anyone used one of those heaters in a blind?
Robhuntandfish replied to Sir-diealot's topic in General Hunting
i have a couple of them that i use for emergency heat if power outage at the house . They work great. A little can will last about 4 hours on low. they kick out a good bunch of heat and start easy. In a blind i am betting it would be toasty!
