  1. Agree here. Hills valleys funnels......find the food find the deer in the dacks. I used to look for mast trees when scouting, or power lines where trees have been cut and opened up a bit, also used to like areas that had lots of blueberries. Not that deer eat those but they love the bushes, and usually where there was blueberry bushes there was browse and open areas. Tough to just hunt off a Google map but it is a start. Once out there look for some areas with some food. A lot of times can be done while driving in the area. Apple trees are often but the road up there and a good place to start to find active deer trails. Good luck.
  2. I always picked wet, windy days. Harder for deer to hear you and to pick out your movements with the wind. And the slower the better.
  3. I used to live on the south north border on 365 in Holland patent. Behind my house was southern across the road was northern. Was torn where to hunt....nice to use the gun..... but deer ran across road from the gunfire.....but southern can get a doe permit.....ahhh. lol.
  4. Saw 3 deer this pm. One was close in the brush and thought it was a yote at first it was so small. Then saw a big deer thru some trees on a field edge about 200 yards away. Too thick to tell if buck or doe. And then one more in field way out. On the drive home had to stop in one spot with 8 deer all standing in the road. Deer gotta be on the move tomorrow. Cool, calm day with a storm coming in sat. Good luck all. There HAS to be a post on the harvest thread! It's a must!
  5. In the dacks... I'd bag all the ridges and funnels for one nice Grove of acorns anywhere.
  6. Venison stew for the long weekend. Gonna make some red lobster biscuits later to go with. Should be a good meal later after hunting.
  7. Saw one yote this am and zero deer. Back out about 2:30 in a greenfield. If not tonite. Def happens tomorrow. Perfect day! And will be in #1 spot in am.
  8. Headed out to my lease. Saving my best spot til tomorrow morn though. As it look s perfect tomorrow. Off the next 4 days but Weeknd looks like a washout after sat morn. Sucks. So gotta get it down and open the butcher shop for Sat and sun then. Good luck all who are out.
  9. Didn't see anything tonite after work. Pulled two cams and not a lot of pics. A couple does and a pair of three points. Hoping it pics up tomorrow. Got cold out there gonna dress a bit heavier for tomorrow. And who the hell invented " lake effect rain". That's just BS , think I'm gonna write a letter!

  12. im def a shotgun guy! My first few deer were with a mossberg with open sights. When you hit em with the shotgun they usually just pile up. Close and a big damn hole.

  20. wow! I shot a coyote last year with the crossbow walking in to deer hunt. It was just under 30 yards. and after i shot i thought well now what do i do?? glad he didnt come my way and i made a great shot and he flopped right there. lol
  21. My Dad made it couple of times and it was excellent - but that was 30 years ago and he was a chef. If i remember he braised it in cast iron pan and then put in oven with a sauce to cook with fresh mushrooms. But it was a long time ago and i was like 15.
  22. its the best hunting show out there. I am also a big fan of "on your own adventures" guy hunts public land only. But meateater is great and Rinella is the best ambassador for hunting there is.
  23. im saying decoy cardboard cut out on the side of the truck, put the cruise on 5 mph and neak up on em!
