I usually grab a 7f and a7j but this year can't see me needing them. Cripes need one for the freezer!
-
4.5hours in the stand and nothing. A ton of sign around me. Three new scrapes in the trail on the way in and a rub was hit again and an older scrape redone. So there is deer there just we haven't got our schedules synchro up. Unless forecast turns out wrong that was prob it for the bow. If no or light rain might do a quick sit tonite. Shot deer in this spot and have 3 scrapes and a rub within 40 yards of it. Not a deer today. Sat from before sunup to 11:30.

It's everywhere. I have 7 sits at different stands on my lease and have seen yotes 6 times. And sometimes two at a time.

Headed out to scrapetree stand on lease. Hoping for some kinda action. Prob only an am hunt as it's gonna rain later. So will stay as long as I can. Would like to throw an arrow before the cross gun comes out.

Last day of bow for me tomorrow. Didn't see a thing today a I was excited to be out. Then weekend it's crossbow time but sure would be a long time and a few years since I didn't put something down with the bow. A bit disappointing. Maybe last day is the one that counts tomorrow. Am looks ok so maybe a long morning sit but pm looks like rain again. Almost had two with the truck on the way home if it wasn't for some mad driving skilz ! Been a tough year , have seen so many less deer .

New spot same story ...not a damn deer. This is my view today 180 from right to left. Got a corner of a cornfield in front of me an alfalfa field to my right about 80 yards and counted 6 apple trees within 100 yards. And not one deer.....will be back for the pm. Lots of sign. Deer tracks and hair in the fence where they cross. But not a peep of a deer.

Well my Dad would make venison stew with fresh mushrooms and it was the best I ever had. He would braise venison and onions in a little red port and a beef stock. Then once cooked would put that on to simmer with mushrooms. And every hour after about 3 hours he would thicken with corn starch, flour and milk mix until it was thickness he wanted. Then he cooked separate the taters and carrots cause " I'm making VENISON stew and not VEGETABLE soup" his words.... He was a chef can't argue...lol. and those would simmer thru for at least an hour together. He made this at camp and simmered over the wood stove. Best meal I've ever had. I make it about the same but I will cheat a bit and use an au jus as a base.

I always make corn bread with my chili. Goes perfect with it. Looks yummy

A guy that worked for me had a camp on the edge of the three Rivers state Forest in Madison county. He said there isn't anywhere near the amount of people hunting it like there used to be. I have heard from others it isn't bad. Now I am sure opening day of gun there are gonna be people there but might be worth looking into. I have been by it many times and been interested and really haven't seen it over run with hunters. If you bow hunt, Verona beach state park can be bow hunted and is pretty large. But there are pheasant hunters there too but there are plenty of out of the way areas to hunt. Just need to fill out a form and keep it with you. It's bow hunting only. And I was told by a buddy a 10 point was taken out of there last week. I have camped at stoney pond as well in Madison county and hiked a bit but never hunted it. It is heavily posted around the state park area but that area is loaded with deer. Dunno if it is also loaded with hunters though. Hope this helps

And there you go.... Your welcome. ...I give !
-
That was it. Gotta whip this up soon and try it. Thanks.

Gotta disagree. I like a good crusty bread better and a sharper cheese. But all grilled cheese is good. It's like bacon! I think it was you that made a Brie and apple grilled cheese??? I forgot about that and wanted to try it. This jogged my memory.

Jim and Ginger and a shot of black cherry juice .

Lol just finished a grilled cheese. And a bowl of venison stew. Like TF said mayo. I actually like miracle whip for that. And BLTs but not much else.

These were nice towers, with legs flared out. Wouldn't think they would blow over but they do look top heavy. There are two blown over on my way home from work and saw another yesterday. Saw a TV show with the Drury's where one of theirs blew over. Scary
-
im sure a few on here use tower stands. How do you anchor them? I have seen three blown over in fields in the last couple of weeks. That would scare the crap outa me. i dont plan on using any as they just dont fit how and where i hunt. But i have seen so many recently blown over onto their sides was just curious and cant believe people dont anchor them.

cool pic and view. Def helps to understand placement. Close and from high above real difficult to double lung.
