  1. plus would think the overall deer take is just higher during crossbow cause its the best time of the year regardless of implement. And yeah most every guy i hunt with switches to crossbow when it opens. Mostly cause its something else to hunt with and they are kinda fun to hunt with and different.
  2. I think i fall under that and see your point. But i also just like the different seasons. I would never want to see an any implement season from Oct 1- Dec 6. And I would be honest and I would take a gun because if the 30 point buck is at 50 yards I want to have the gun cause I would kick my ass all the way home if i had a bow in my hand when i had the choice. Although i have 2 places i hunt that are bow only so i would still use it for sure. If I am allowed to take a gun to a knife fight I probably will. Esp when all the neighbors have as well. I dont need someone to tell me what to use but I also dont want them telling the neighbors they can use whatever they want and then limiting myself to the bow. My spots are surrounded by other hunters esp in the gun season. During bow there isnt hardly anyone next to me hunting. its not so much about the implement I use than it is about the solitude of bow season. And i have a couple of older buddies that gave up on bow hunting cause of some wore out shoulders and used the crossbow this year and both took bucks. Age and years of paying for your license should give some benefits and just like you said - doesnt mean you cant use the bow. But i voted no just cause I really like the setup the way it is now. And dont want to see full inclusion of crossbow turn into muzzleloader etc. Cause I can see it turning into a primitive weapons season real easy. But if it goes from a sharp stick to a bazooka I will prob hunt with whatever the season allows. Just will need a muzzle break for the bazooka.
  3. i voted against - which surprised me a little actually. But I just like the seasons exactly the way they are. I would like to see anyone with a Sr's license to be able to use it and also for youth hunting and then lower the age restriction and get rid of the youth gun weekend. Would be nice for younger folks to be able to hunt the whole bow season with an adult and a crossbow. I love bow hunting - its my favorite damn thing. But if they made it open to crossbows i would be hard pressed not to take it instead of the bow.
  4. exactly - right now its worth $8,000 . Clean it up you wont be able to give it away.
  5. i like hunting withe the bow, i like hunting with the crossbow, i like hunting with the gun. I like hunting. make the laws whichever way i will be out there. I like them the way they are! get to do a little of everything. But I will say i will take the most effective weapon prob every time that is avail. So during crossbow I take the crossbow and not the bow. But whatever is open i would be hunting regardless. In all honesty if they opened gun up in bow season i would be using it and I just love bow hunting!!!!!! I have to say would like to see inclusion with crossbow for anyone that buys a senior license and anyone that is considered a youth and drop the big game/archery age. That way younger folks can archery hunt that cant pull bow back yet. Then there is no need for a special youth gun weekend and they can hunt and learn the whole bow season.
  6. theres so many dead deer on the roads in Pennsylvania cause they get caught in the huge potholes they have! Its amazing anytime you drive 81 its always being torn up yet its always terrible with holes. Maybe their highway crews are too busy to pickup dead deer. Or they havent assembled the team that your governor has .........um sure lol. (wasnt able to say that straight faced by the way)
  7. I I agree. Bought that exact gun last fall the BLR 30-06. Plenty accurate and a nice gun. The trigger is def not the best . It is pretty heavy. If I could change anything it would be that. Unless your a fan of the lever action can get the same and better accuracy in a $500 bolt action though with a better trigger. But if you want a definite lever action, having the magazine is a big plus and also a 30-06 caliber, cause it covers everything and lots of ammo options.
  8. I was lazy tonite and just cooked the steak in butter and some garlic. But sour cream is def a winner with it.
  9. An electrolysis tub would prob work the best but would think oven cleaner would prob work. Guy at work does cast iron all the time in an electrolysis tub but unless you know someone that does it , for one piece it's not worth it.
  10. Venison steak onions and peppers in a tortilla.
  11. had one myself and agree with Moog be a little aggressive when you cycle that bolt. That plastic casing needs to be tossed out of there. And they always seem to like a specific brand pending on the gun. Mine shot the best with the Federals. I tried all of the ones you have there and best groups were by the federal, but always hear of different guns liking the remingtons or the hornady or the federals. Nice rig and good luck. I have taken deer out to 130 yards with one
  12. my favorite trout lure has become the mini jig. I like the trout magnets in gold the best 1/16 or 1/32 ounce.
  13. im probably the only guy in NY that likes everything the way it is. I love the long bow season, like the 2 weeks of crossbow during the rut, then a liberal gun season and a late muzzle just in case I had a tough year. (I hunt all southern these days) . I hope they just leave it alone. If they do crossbow for the whole bow season there is no way i dont use it, but i also like using my bow. But i would think the deer take increasing during crossbow would have to be an increase in hunters cause if a bowhunter wants to take a doe they would anyway regardless of what they are using - therefore the numbers wouldnt have such a jump. Crossbow must be bringing in additional hunters or additional hunting hours. I know of a couple of older guys that cant really operate the bow as well anymore and have gotten crossbows and just hunt those two weeks before gun. And both of them took deer with it last fall.
  14. so hard to forecast- i saw the most deer this year than any other year and had does everywhere all the time. Our lease the prior year we hardly could see a doe and had a lot of young bucks, this past season saw more does in 7F and 6S and 7J than ever.
  15. I bought a new bow 2years ago and the first time I pulled it back did the same thing. Couldn't even set it up for over a month. But haven't had a problem since.
  16. If I was gonna go AR that's def where I would be going. Can't wait to see some on the range posts about yours. Maybe when spring comes around in July.
  17. Well if I happen to listen to the devil on my shoulder I will make you proud and go big bore. Been eyeing a 45 70.
  18. Man I must've been really drunk when I married you.... Says the guy with 3 new guns....... lol Here's my problem. I just bought a new gun safe just to split up the shotguns and rifles and now they just look too empty......it's a problem.
  19. Channel 9 Syracuse is in Sylvan beach for wind pushing the ice off the lake into big ice jams. Wind is crazy here. Hoping trees stay up and power stays on. With these winds lake ought to be open tomorrow.
  20. Just an FYI herb phillipsons has a 20% off all guns in stock sale Saturday 7th.
  21. thats an awesome day for sure! a whole season in one. Have been thinking my next dog will be an airedale. Might have to look you up then.
  22. Nah go for those 80 yard traditional bow practice shots today and those naysayers will be real quiet on your garage shooting at 5 yards! lol
