  1. they are beauties for sure. Only fish i think has got em beat is a fall wild brookie. Have seen a lot of them caught , netted a bunch for guys , caught a lot of salmon and some bugger browns but not a nice steelie. Have tried a little winter fishing for them but each time i went it was soooo cold and the pools were even frozen over. Hooked one that was prob 8-9 lbs once and real silver but it flipped the hook. Was using small curly tails soaked in anise oil. A buddy of mine swore by them.
  2. just an FYI - there is a 2018 thread open now and that fish would be a stunning opener to it. Beauty of a steelie! Has some great color to it. Do the spring runs seem to have any more or less color? I have done ok on browns but a big steelhead never happened for me for some reason. Spent a lot of time on the salmon and oswego rivers in my 20"s.

  4. that will happen - quite a story. I once thought I wasnt gonna find one buck after looking for 6 hours. I had a 20 ft area of a strong blood trail and then nothing. Went back and forth, covered many acres and couldnt figure it out. Finally i walked a ridge one last time and went another 40 yards and could see a white belly another 150 yards away in a ravine. I had walked up and down that ravine but he was in a spot where there was just enough of a hole i couldnt see him. I basically got lucky cause i didnt know where else to look and thought i made a good shot. He still had the arrow in him when I found him. Was a touch high but def fatal. they are tough critters . Glad at least you had an end to the mystery
  5. I can look at my own house on google earth but they cant find a 8ft 600 pound creature ...sure. And there is so many that they have a mating population large enough to sustain the species across multiple states and continents for decades...... sure You cant get your mail without someone posting it on facebook for crying out loud. And the leading and best known researcher is named Bobo.......nuff said.
  6. sounds like a true survivor.....Maybe you should start a program..... im sure the govt will fund it!
  7. All the bigfoots (?) bigfeets (?) are gone from around here since their primary food source the Jackalope has dwindled in numbers.
  8. i have a Nikon. It has worked great, never had an issue.
  9. ive only shot at one running deer in my life and it only went about 15 yards down a trail straight away and it turned broadside at 40 yards. When it jumped out it was only like 20 yards out of some thick brush. Otherwise im not shooting at a running deer, unless i am in a treestand and it is a downward shot and if i miss it goes into the ground where i know no one is around. And thats if they arent running full bore. But from the level ground- i always pass or wait til they stop.
  10. lol- I actually wasnt thinking these were a perk..... I guess if you have one they are fun - otherwise they are a PITA.
  11. love loons too, but sometimes waterfront sounds are also these.........
  12. I like June bug color the best for largemouth and natural shad for the smallies. With the yum version I like bama majic and the pumpkin with chartreuse end. Man you guys got me wanting to bass fish! Went thru my lures over the weekend and inventory on the soft plastics....these senkos are ready!
  13. we are in the same boat! waiting to get out and shoot a new gun! its a damn itch I cant scratch!
  14. i will def give it a try . I have those same hooks i use for speed craws. I do use wacky style but usually in more open water and smallies. - thanks ! i promise not to give out your secret- lol heres one in return..... try a 3" senko on a floating jighead for smallies . I like a chartruese color with a pumpkin senko.
  15. i run some wacky but always go weightless i do more often run texas cause it seems to go thru weeds better. Can skip them like a stone! lol I dont always go with a swivel esp in really grassy spots. Dunno why i had one on this day.
  16. they are def the best bass lure for me. Always have one rod rigged up for senkos all season. Yeah I buy the knock offs too. Have to at that price. And i like the 4" better. Easier to skip under brush and docks. A good day of bassin might go thru a few bags of them.
  17. agree that is a nice store - was there 2 weeks ago. Prices are better than bass pro too. Was at bass pro Utica last weekend - $8.79 for a package of Senkos... thats nuts .
  18. she was - they talked about it on the talking dead after show before . Good eye
  19. I live on Oneida lake and I would say the woods. Love being right here and can be out fishing in10 minutes. But I also lived on an old farm with land. The best pick would be an old farm with a nice farm pond. A private spot to fish and also your own hunting land. Water front taxes are expensive and you don't own the lake. The woods and land is yours. And winter on a big lake is cold unless your an ice fisherman. I love where I am at , can fish in minutes, can walk into Sylvan beach for a beer and dinner, and my land lease is 6 minutes away for hunting. But if had the perfect choice an old farm with some land and a nice pond is the way to go. As long as you don't mind some work.
  20. i wouldnt worry about time when it comes to hunting - i would only worry about form and shot placement. If you develop the correct and repetitive form you will do this when you draw back on a deer and the adrenaline is flowing. To have a specific amount of time would be impossible for me to gauge when it applies to hunting. I usually draw when I think the shot is about to become available and the deer isnt going to see me. Sometimes that means holding the draw until the shot is right or sometimes it means to shoot right away. A general practice shot would think about 5 seconds but I practice by holding longer many times to prepare for those days when you have to. Have held shots for a long time to get the right angle or have the deer take one more step...cant put a def number on it.
