  1. right - agreed - I meant the Florida leg- only one introduced at this point I believe. And NRA reacted to it. Feds and trump just been talking about it, and seems Trump has backed off some. Andy is still drooling over it I am sure. Would be shocked if NY isnt the next to push it through in the next 60 days. Lets hope it doesnt
  2. yeah last nights wasnt great. Morgan has to be leaving soon if he is to be on Fear. He will prob be on the couch of talking dead soon. I almost wish Daryl would leave and start a group of his own, that would be interesting. Wondering where Jadis will end up , her story isnt over yet.
  3. already went online and scared myself out of them - lol. "false pasture mushrooms, death cap mushrooms, fake puffballs, toxic mushrooms that look a lot like morels" etc etc... Guess i buy them at the store...
  4. ok back to shrooms....... is there a good book or website for info on what to look for in mushrooms? esp to tell the difference between pasture mushrooms and bad mushrooms. Not really looking for the exotics but just a trusty website i can download pics to be sure . Would love to get into some good mushrooms for a stew
  5. a good plan is to get a tax map of your area, and get on google earth and look around for a few hours there. Then make a list and just take a day and go around the area asking. Take your daughter with you as its harder for them to say no and she is also hunting and can learn how to ask as well. Ive convinced my hunting buddy to do this ( he shares a lease with me but he wants one other spot and all the others i have will only give me permission) so he is gonna go to all the places he picked out on the same day and just make it a day. I told him to wear his uniform after work one day as he is full time military - and not be ashamed to do it as he should get benefits out of it for serving the country. Maybe ask the new owners and let them know you have hunted there for years. People are more open to turkey hunting and bow hunting so start with those, and dont overlook a spot that might only be 5 acres. Esp for bow hunting. If you were closer i might be able to help out a bit, but 3 hours is a bit tough. Your a good guy , dont be afraid to ask. Worst they can say is no. Just like asking out a girl - only maybe better cause you can hunt other places without land getting jealous. good luck.
  6. That sounds like a great wild game meal right there! Any luck yet Jay on some new dirt? Sucks you dont have that land to use anymore, sounds like you had a lot of success there. Dunno how populated your area is but to find some new spots can be tough. My buddy is gonna ask 3 places hes had his eye on as soon as the weather opens up a bit. Ive convinced him that someone telling him no isn't the end of the world. The toughest part of hunting is access to good land for sure. Good luck and hope you land into one.
  7. I only "own" about a 1/8 of an acre as well. Not much hunting there but helps keep the taxes lower. I do lease 120 acres in one spot and have permission on another 100 acres and also a 12 acre and a 9 acre spot. And it all depends on location and terrain and neighbors. To say there is a magic number for deer management it would have to be over 500. Otherwise the deer are into other properties more. But if you have a good mix of woods and food and security then can draw them into a lot smaller areas. The 120 I lease is a brushed up tangle and has really no food plots but a ton of cover. The other 100 is almost all open fields and no cover. (if I could only put them together). And both get hunted on the other sides. So to say I was gonna grow some big deer and not have the neighbors shoot them before they got to be mature would be crazy. I am able to usually get a doe and be a little picky on a buck but usually end up with a 5,6,7 point in the end. Last year I didnt get a buck and passed up a few hoping for one of 2 big 9 pointers that were around. i think with any size of land there are things you can do to improve it and keep or bring deer there. If you can provide some security and some food they will come in and you can increase your chances.
  8. i am such a chicken. My Dad used to know all the mushrooms and we would go out and pick them. I would like to but dont know them enough or want to take the chance that I do. But venison stew with wild mushrooms my Dad made was just amazing . He used to pick shaggy maines and pasture mushrooms all the time. One time we were driving by a little city park and it was loaded with them. We picked 2 grocery bags of them! Maybe i will this spring, but i get distracted by all the fishing and turkey hunting
  9. Franks in Canastota? Bought a few guns there myself.
  10. The last of the perch and walleye in the freezer. Need spring soon. Breaded with house of autrys fish breader and tonys Creole seasoning.
  11. What's funny is women are always like "those are fake" and the fact is we really don't care. Lol
  12. Walmart as the largest retailer in the US is making a legislative push by saying this. They even reference "we go above and beyond federal law" in statement. https://news.walmart.com/2018/02/28/walmart-statement I agree with you here. But just seems a lot of people are eviscerating Dicks and don't say a word to their buddy walmart cause we all like and use Walmart. Dicks is an easier target cause honestly we dont use them as much. And the NRA agrees. The suit they filed was against the 21 age. Again all a moot point in the next 60days I am sure. Be hopeful thats all that enacted in legislation is a 21 restriction.
  13. Guess my point is that is hypothetical to only point out Dicks. Where is the outrage for Walmart. Look I was the same guy that said " I'm not going to Dicks anymore" . But that was easy I dont shop there anyway. But to take a hard stance against dicks and not others like Walmart because they sell cheap groceries isn't taking a stance. It's taking a convenient one. Are you gonna start shopping at dicks if they decide to sell cheap groceries? I could care less if they stop stocking ARs . That is not a restriction to your 2A ammendent rights. It's no different than deciding not to stock a single shot shotgun. The restriction to 2A is the 21 and older. And Walmart is restricting far more Americans with this move since they are the leading firearms seller in the US. I will still shop at Walmart and still not ship at Dicks cause I don't anyway. But all the outrage at Dicks is way over placed, when Walmart and others are doing the exact same thing. "Search ypur feelings Luke, you know it to be true" And I dislike these moves as much as anyone. But also being realistic and honest that I will shop at Walmart with that same policy as Dicks.
  14. Would disagree. No matter what they sell it's still the same restriction to a constitutional right. And Walmart sells more guns than Dicks. It's the largest retail firearm seller in the US last I knew. To boycott dicks and not Walmart is just choosing what is convenient. Look I agree and am not happy about it. I don't buy anything at dicks anyway so that's easy . But I can't boycott Walmart . Don't like it for sure but still gonna shop there. To choose just dicks to boycott and not Walmart is just the easy way out. But by the end of April I am willing to bet it is a moot point. Ny legislation will be passed for 21 If not federal.
  15. Soon it won't even matter what they do. Legislation will be passed and all stores will be 21. Can't boycott all the stores that will do this either. Walmart......it's like the only store here in the area. Not much of a choice. They don't sell/stock guns at ours and haven't in a few years. Still need to buy groceries and underwear so gotta shop somewhere.
  16. I'm working on mine right now. I'm making an old 2 person treestand into a spot to sit in my hunt and fish room. My hunting buddy made a deer drag cart out of a pool ladder. Lol. I'm betting there is some winners out there from this crew...... Will post pics when I am done with it, but it's gonna be a while.
  17. Just checking in on something. Would we be able to get a 2018 thread pinned for live from the lake etc in fishing, live from the woods etc in hunting? Those are just great threads and we are still going on the 2017 ones. And just a suggestion under guns etc a live from the rifle range as well. Think that would get a lot of use. And just want to add I love this site and appreciate all you do. The way it is set up is just great and love the way it is set up by category and can see who has commented on things. And there is lot of great members. Keep up the good work it is appreciated!!!
  18. My buddy has a Ford escape and a Chevy Aveo and he has a hitch and hauler on both of them in case the wife needs the SUV. The carrier is almost as big as the car! I have only owned one car in my life. Right after college I had a Ford escort pony - POS. It ran fine and had a back seat but if anyone sat in it the car would bottom out everywhere.
  19. But now ypur a bow guy.....that might change.....those new bows are hard not to fondle....
  20. Watched it last night too. Was pretty good . Was pretty happy to see Steve Rinella on there from Meateater.
  21. There is a little pub/ movie bar here in town. Went there one time and it was like 15 for 40 wings or something like that. So I was of course ....wow what a deal let's get that......yeah little baby wings. If they deep fried them a little more could've ate them like smelt.
  22. Good way to reopen the kitchen. Congrats. That looks great Fletch
