  1. That's what I've heard about geese pretty often. Figured if it was ground would be better. Or maybe brine and corned for hash.
  2. So do most just breast out the ducks? I'm thinking Mallards I should pluck and keep the skin on the breasts and maybe other puddle ducks. And any others breast out without the skin and fat. Def some seared duck in the cast iron. But also saw an interesting recipe for duck bacon. Geese I am planning to breast out for sure. They will prob be either grind to sausage or jerky. Maybe slow cooker. Maybe try corning it. Hopefully we will actually shoot a few to try.
  3. Haven't seen any. I will have to check next time I'm there. My Barber used to do a buck contest. Never won it. Also a local archery shop that is now closed had one and all I ever won was smallest buck. Lol. It was a 7 point and no one entered any small bucks so I won. Seems like the year I get a big buck is the year I don't enter any.
  4. Great buck. Haven't seen a buck contest at the local legion here but they have the best fish fry around. Was there last night.
  5. It has that great red color to it so was thinking you added some cure then cooked low and slow. I make venison jalepeno too but I make it as fresh sausage and haven't smoked it. Gotta try some green Tabasco in it. Really ups the jalepeno flavor without too much heat. I have tenderquick but I don't like adding much as it can make it too salty for smoking. Gonna have to try the cure instead. I also make apple breakfast sausage. Great Minds. Didn't make that this season though. Next venture might be a roasted red pepper and chorizo. But I have a ton of spices still for smoked, cracked pepper, apple, country breakfast, and maple.
  6. I have lines and weights. Thinking maybe I can make a line with one weight and two leads to put two decoys on it. Got our pond all picked out. It's on the land we hunt deer on. We have a couple of spots along the pond we are gonna look at to set up on. We think there might be an old blind there from years ago and are gonna check that out. Thanks for the tips.
  7. Thanks. I bought a Stevenson pump about 4 years ago. Haven't even fired it yet. And my buddy is buying a new shotgun this year before season.
  8. Awesome. We are looking forward to it , will def be a learning experience with my hunting buddy. We are gonna learn as we go hopefully. Even not knowing what we are doing I expect to get some chances at some. Biggest issue will be if the ponds are frozen up. We don't plan to get crazy with it. Just something else to have fun doing after the main deer season for a couple weeks. When you use decoys do you weight them down as singles? I'm thinking two on a weight with separate lines. I only have a dozen and just want to get my feet wet so to speak this season and see how it goes.
  9. Looks awesome! Did you add in cure to it?
  10. Thanks. Gonna have to check that out. I have them on in stock alert at buds online. Have 5-6 boxes but would like a few more.
  11. Nice, I have that one myself. Shoots great groups on the range at 100 yards. I feel confident with it out to 150 at least. Finding Hornady sabots is the worst part of it. It is heavier than my rifles too but I carry it a couple of times a year. Have a fixed 4 power scope on it.
  12. If 80% of the population that can be vaxed is vaxed, and let's say 10% of the population either has had covid and been asymptomatic, or got it but just tested negative or got it and didn't report it and therefore have antibodies. So that's 90% of the population. So why the continued push of get the vaccine as a mandate. It doesn't make sense in the "science" at all. It's time to move on. Let's get the masks off, that has been announced that 60% are knock offs anyway. By spring the numbers should be decreasing, the variant less deadly and of it mimics the Spanish flu as it has quite a bit, then we are two years into it and hopefully at the end. I would also say that I bet the numbers of people that have had it are far higher than reported. Between the people that have had it asymtatic, unreported or not detected. Thus driving the percentage of fatally down even more.
  13. This belongs in the political section.
  14. Good luck Don ,hope you feel better and the family is ok.
  15. It def does and this year we will be able to keep it mowed instead of the owner doing it once late summer and it's all grown in. We frost seeded some of the trails with clover this season and that took well too. Going to do a lot of that this spring. We have a trail that goes all along the property line of 117 acres and then a trail thru the middle of it. Then we also have a few spots where the we can put a couple mini food plots in. Just started doing that this past season. Gonna try it again this year and see how it goes.
  16. Found more pics of cutting at our spot. Can see how high the weeds and grass are on the left and it cut right thru it.
  17. I bought this one from mowers direct last year. Swisher 44" country cut. Worked great and it was about $2500. Get the lift gate delivery if you buy one there your not moving this thing by hand. I was working but my buddy assembled it the next day and then he cut the entire trails the next day with it. We have all level trails and no rocks but it sure did the job. He never even had to use 4 wheel drive with his 450 Polaris. only thing I don't like is it is electric start only and would've liked the option in case and it doesn't cut when backing up. And I figure thats due to the breakaway setup on the blades in case you hit rocks, ground or a stump. did the whole place and didn't even use 1/2 tank of gas.
  18. Real glad Monday is a holiday . Hoping if they are right it's over by Tuesday
  19. Getting better is all that matters. Good luck and hope all turns out ok
  20. For the Northeast they are saying to stay tuned for a possible big storm Sunday night into Monday. No predictions yet but forecasters are saying stay tuned.
  21. I agree. I think Biden is pushing the vaccine so much cause it's the only play he has. He's a buffoon in so many different ways. I think we would be better off with a few different people that could have been president, Including Trump . But I also think there are others that would have done better than him as well. Esp if there was a democratic house and Senate like there is now. And remember Trump saying how " we are doing the best, the best of any country, everyone is saying that" reteric. They all do it, they are politicians. Looking forward to a '22 mid term swing and hoping Trump steps aside as there are a couple of candidates I would like to see in there. Plus I think they would have a better chance of being elected. None of them will cure the virus but any of them can certainly be a better president.
  22. Again today....ham and potato hash. You out sick too?
  23. Numbers were a lot lower then. With omicron counties are breaking records every day with positives. Manufacturing isn't being held up by Biden for tests. Only thing Trump could have done to make that better wwould be to use the war powers act and make companies manufacturer tests that aren't now. Which is also very dicey to do. I think you give him a little too much credit for what he "might" have done. I'm not a fan of either guy but Biden is def not an answer to anything other than a trivia question. Lol.
  24. I agree but your statement was about amount of cases. We were never going to stop this virus and Trump didn't have Delta and omicron. I think everyone will and has struggled with this because we haven't dealt with it in our generation. I think most are doing what they can with the info they are given. I agree that with Trump the process would have been different but the numbers of people getting it wouldn't make a difference. Plus a lot of the mandates have been state driven.
