now that i am 50 i would say ive been on the hunt for as long as i can remember. I am an archer since ten. a hunter since earlier and chasing deer since I was twelve. Oh yeah I have quite a few dart championships under my belt. So if its not a bullseye then its just another miss.I will only hunt with my muzzleloader, unless on a drive then its time to go back in time and break out the sluggers.I hate missing but i love shooting at running deer, kind of a conundrum. As far as pistols go , I can hit an pie plate at 65 yards with a 357 revolver with a 3 inch barrel

ive seen deer lost with a chest shot. unless its a pass through you never know. unless you harvest the deer you never know. Look ive had some bad shots where ive had to put in another round. That puts thoughts of ineptness, and a query of thoughts about what i did wrong. i feel that i owe it to the deer that i shoot to do the best job that I can , and a heart shot will satisfy me, even though we love the heart especially for thanksgiving stuffing.
-
the heart is a bit bigger than my fist say its about 3 and half or four inches by 5 to 6 full of blood. thats not a big target. but under no circumstances will a deer get away with a heart shot. you can always spine them. not preferred method but it makes for great TV.I consider missing the heart a poor shot weather the deer drops or not... i missed my target . the results cause me stress and I ponder the shot and all aspects of it. i do a lot to keep my gun in hunting mode... you know slightly dirty and not oily

went in for a shoulder surgery on the 31 st August. The MRI and ex rays all indicated a minor injury to the rotator cuff. I was supposed to be back to full strength in 2 to 3 weeks. Crap it ended up being torn all the way through. i guess it could have been worse, the Dr. said it was a small tear but it went all the way through. So now instead of picking up my bow to get ready for the hunt , I will be going to physical therapy. I hope to be up and running for crossbow season, but not without a crank for the bow. I go see my Dr. on the 11th so until then all I have to do is keep my shoulder stretched ... bored and its only day four. At least i have time to do my shopping. GOOD LUCK out there AND BE SAFE

just because you say it holding out to 150 tells me that it going off target way before 150 yards. yadda yadda yadda . truth is that its a different gun with a different barrel and a different breech plug.. there is no way it should be shooting the same load with the same powder and be just as "hunting accurate" that seems to be a made up slogan to help someone justify a poorly shooting gun... aim a little high ,pull a trigger or breath different. there goes the shot and a wounded deer.If your group is outside 2 inches at 150 yards your gun is loaded wrong. Powder charge, bullet, primer, sabot. you could probably narrow it down with some homework. Now this doesnt mean someone is a bad shooter, Its just that its a chaotic world and not everyone has the time to spend at the range, or its possible that good enough is well just that good enough.I nailed a buck last year in the heart at 200 yards with a load i worked up for my triumph.Time spent in the lab usually yields in good results.it might be as simple as just downsizing the powder charge. keep working at it . There are way to many variables to leave it at 4 inches.... for the deers sake , dont miss. put yourself out there who would you want shooting at you. Mister inch and a half or mister 4 inch.

speed breech would be something I would consider. Also if you plan on using loose powder,, the shape of the breech plug is important. Blackhorn 209 needs a concave breech in order to fire properly. A break action is also nice. I shoot a tc omega. Its my go to gun when i want to drop a deer. Work up a load and just about any gun will shoot well enough to get the job done, but its the little things that make it easier. Shooting deer is easy loading your weapon shouldnt be hard.

Every single one is a trophy. there are so many pictures, and the joy it brings to the Family is priceless.Loseing A days pay to go hunt, who cares. Bring home a deer or two, fresh meat. These are the times I live for. a great life a happy wife and when I drag a deer up the driveway even the hounds happy factor increases ten fold. So I have a few on the wall. Nice bucks no monsters. My first eight point a couple years later i shot a nine, then there is the drop tine twelve. Jim block sure does fine work. these deer aint making the record book but they hang proudly in our home. So i say even the does are trophy's. but they don't make good looking mounts

They are a couple of real doozies. I saw the Hilary for prison 2017 stickers people are sporting on their cars. HA HA HA. Take Cuomo and Schumer with her.

Gander was great store for a year or two but then it just got worse and worse. Nothing you want and everything you don't need. They would remodel their store every year and fire a couple of employees. They closed the shooting range upstairs. Now two people can shoot at a time at 14 yards, and they want you to pay for it . I argued it with them and left without paying... first shots to sight in crossbow,-- Not going back.

vizslas replied to fasteddie's topic in General Chit Chat
I just checked the snow on top of my grill it said 18 so I am guessing we got closer to twenty or so in North Tonawanda. -

Remington is liable for some innocent people dying. All for profit. they have been pushing under the carpet for years. They did their own testing and said that there was nothing wrong with the model 700. That's a bunch of crap. I would never own any 700, I have known about this for a long time. send it back for a rebuild if you have one.

Running coyotes with dogs next week
vizslas replied to First-light's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
i have always been a fan of the Black and Tans. those Treeing Walker's and Plott hounds are all really great dogs.I like the way the walkers have that big voice and they have a really cool paint job. I always have room for a hound or two at our house. right now we have a ten year old female and a 7 year old male. Hounds are great dogs if you can deal with their outlook on life,oh yeah their barks ,I think they save their barking for the worst possible time. Both are rescue hounds. -

What would be the purpose of that? Are you trying to catch a coyote or are you trying to trap a hunting dog. -
i bought a 1 meter strip and just cut it to size. I started at the brain cavity and ran them through to the nose and turned them and ran them right back into the brain so i guess there are about 20 individual lights on the strip, about 14 inches long. i like the chase patterns. starts at blue then turns to white one led at a time.with I prefer the addressable over the plain RGB LED's

the camera on my phone just does not do it justice. I not saying it looks like angels from heaven but it looks a lot better from where i am sitting than in the pics

amazon has them for like $12. Its powered by a DC wall adapter, 5 volts. i just fed everything through the base of the skull. I saw them all set up for $40 , this cost me $20
-
Well I finished screwing around with the skull. Now i have a remote controlled deer skull. I ended up putting an addressable LED strip light in it, with a RF remote control. It has 300 per-programed sequences it can run. It looks pretty good on the red, but I think it will stay on white. Its going to look great in the window on Halloween.

what converter . you just plug them into the video and audio rca plugs . ha mine works and i have hunting videos and lots of war tapes. things like The Dirty Dozen and WWII documentarys

has anyone said outdoors man..I think its more like that .. if you hunt for food, then your a hunter. Check that definition.. Just because you go on a hike to find a deer to shoot, and you have practiced your shot , wearing your camo uniform, lets not forget your sportsman number on the center of your hunting coat...and Now up for the humans, joe sportsman, and he is going to kill a whitetail. ??????? Are you still a sportsman if you hit it with your car and take it home and eat it.????
-
according to some feeding myself could be a sport. I used to be bad at it but with some practice i got better at it . Now the spoon and fork are under my controll
