LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong
landtracdeerhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
All week has been quiet here. The young'ins are only ones showing during hunting hours. Doe and bucks have all gone nocturnal. Another behind close doors breeding cycle this season. Maybe this cooler weather will ignite something. Due for one on the ground, past years showing. -
Nice to see you starting your kids off at an early age. Hope they join you on hunts in the future.

Was out five until twenty after seven; believe deer moved early. Not even a fawn today. First bust morning. Been pretty slow here the last few. Hope they don't stay in nocturnal mode long. -
Laws are made to be broken. It's called revenue.

For those who process their deer

Olive oil adds a nice flavor to any meat. Good for ya too! -
What, no deer hunting? Ah, the warm weather has you all on edge, LOL.

May not mean much to most folks here, but we have killed some nice bucks during mild temps.. Get a doe in heat, no matter the temp., all hell breaks loose. You have to be there to take advantage. Good luck!

All fawns showing during shooting hours. Mature showing pre dawn and dusk here.. Breeding is continuing in thicker areas, with a rare occasional kick out into viewing areas. -
We'll, our numbers are down from what they were last year. Seen 7 hens Sunday, all huddled on a fall plowed field. Last fall, 17 were in the same area. I agree, a tom season or two would be the way. The DEC. has failed, once again, on turkey management program.

I'll try tomorrow at the town. If I don't get one, which would surprise me, then less deer to butcher, LOL.

A lot can go wrong with a single pin also.

I'll second the wild day. Beautiful walk out; heck couldn't ask for a better darker morning. Radar showed a rain gust area moving in, so kinda prepared. Caught the smell first, then had a deer moved quickly through. Figured he scented me. Wasn't long before another came in, then a third. Wind and rain hit, tree started rocking and cracking and a loud windfall went to the ground nearby. I'm grounded.. Kinda figures right at the height of the action. Winds are now gusting to 52 mph. here. -
We didn't get a lot of wind today. Weather say tomorrow we get a big SW. blow on the back side of the system.

President Wilson signed it into law in 1918 to support the war effort during WWI. Year round DST was in place during WWII from 42 to 45, better known as Eastern War Time. From 45 to 66, mass confussion erupted with train, plane , and bus schedules as it was up to each state to decide to stay on old time or change to DST.

Hit by car deer/ what would you do ?
landtracdeerhunter replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
Last shoot'em up, law enforcement I had put a doe down, that was hit by a car, shot 7 times into her before she expired,( so he said). I tried to explain to him how an animal continues to move for a time, but he wouldn't hear of it. Said she was still alive. Tagged the deer, took it home and the meat was worthless. -
Daikon Radish Are
landtracdeerhunter replied to landtracdeerhunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Then and now. I really like the oats mixture in with the radishes. Once the oats filled grain, deer ate right to the ground. The oats drew early, the radishes kicked in a few weeks ago, and should draw right through muzzle. These deer pics are from yesterday. -
Was thinking it was next week for some reason. Who's to blame for this time change? Why government of coarse. Didn't it have something to do with saving electricity in office buildings or something? I like to go by light conditions anyway. I stopped hunting by the clock years ago.

Passed on a 4 by 5, 2 1/2 year old, toying on the edge of 130's at 20 yards, just about 6ish yesterday afternoon. Heard him tearing up a pussy willow bush way before I seen him. Drew back, came right in the open quartering to slightly. Had an excellent chance to send one through; I let down. Hope to see him at 3 1/2. -
Yes I have. Sunday, October 18, 2015; a day I'll never forget. Long story short, drew back on a hugh doe and held the shot for well over a minute. Couldn't let down, doe would of seen me. I blew a 24 yard shot on fatigue, I think. Then a few minutes go by, a beautiful 10 point gives me a 22 yard chip shot; I tried with all my might and couldn't get that string back. Oh my god, are you kidding me?

Sweet 10 indeed. Nearly ready for a European mount, if so choose. Do hope for success finding your buddies deer. Good luck!

Dissapointed in Remington
landtracdeerhunter replied to WhitetailAddict11's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Take a good look at the country of origin. Remington is no different than any other company out there offering a lower end, more affordable, made in a foreign country product. The consumer has to do their homework prior to purchase and decide if the product meets their need. -

Sat on hay legume seeding and wheat; about a 18 acre view. All deer were done moving in the open by 7 am.. Went into the maple ridge stand, their they were, feeding on falling leaves. Can't blame it on the showers, as they moved here last evening. No wind. Must be the mild temps.. -

Sat on the ground tonight against a cherry tree along a hedge row, between apples and standing corn. Showers and wind at times. Barely had time to knock an arrow before deer entered the field not 40 yards away. Had several deer within 10 yards of me with stare down mode well established. A shooter showed to my left after sunset. All I could do is watch, heart pounding as he walked by.
