  1. Yes phade, show us the money, LOL. How do you like the Trace compare to the Covert?
  2. Another great evening sit and a nice encounter, even with the winds gusting. Heading for the oak tree stand, never made it as deer were already feeding on the wheat at 5:20. Got up into the ash tree grove stand without being detected. No longer did a get an arrow knocked, a rather perfect 8 pt. entered the field. Several doe headed for the woods except for a big doe that didn't much care. He worked his way within 25 yd.s or so giving me a nice chip shot. I elected to pass on this 2 1/2 year old named buddy as hopefully, he'll get a few more years on him. The doe was within view for several minutes before heading for the oak woods. He followed. Other deer entered the field, yearling bucks and doe; wind gusts pushed them back into the woods 3x but they still emerged back for another round of wheat.
  3. Early breeding has started here. Buck bred a doe 40 yards in front of me, the evening of the 18th.
  4. Nothing like good rich cow manure to get the party started; just in time for breeding.
  5. Deer are in the oaks woods heavy here this morning. Be a nice sit in the 16th.
  6. Wouldn't surprise me. They get in this area by mysterious ways.
  7. Sounds like you hit the deer in " no man's land" to me. Right in the center between the spine and the vitals. Some say their's no such area. I know better. We have had it happen.
  8. Started coyote hunting about 10 last night. Pretty slow. Heard coon dogs about 1:20 am., then 2 shots and silence. About 2:10, I met up with them.( I knew them) Dogs got on another scent not long after. They worked for better part of an hour. Ended up at a home tree. Got back about 4, got ready to head out deer hunting. Bucks chasing a doe; started 6:12 and went on for several minutes with a nice one coming in right up wind from me. The shot was there, but doe only zone; all I could do is watch. That's number one passed, and I usually don't get to many more a season. All in all, I was whipped, in more than one way.
  9. I never thought calling did much good in the fall.
  10. I was voice yelping Monday evening, to see how the deer would respond, and dog gone it if a jake didn't come out. Spring hunter here also, so I'm not much help at all.
  11. Would hope it holds off till I pick the last of the peppers. Nice long growing season here, this year.
  12. I removed all my cattle wire fencing around the garden area. Had way to many deer getting caught up in it, or running into it. Moved whats left of the garden up by the buildings where deer are to scared to visit. Plant red clover in the old garden area now. Maybe Amish field corn next.
  13. Good luck to all youth, as well as their mentors going a field this weekend. Think safety first! Harvesting a deer is only a small part about what hunting is all about. Never stop learning and always keep an open mind. Hats off to the mentors!
  14. Mr. Cuomo is calling on the federal government for help with the steep increase of illegal guns flowing into New York from neighboring states. Are they that ignorant ? Another Albany failure.
