of honey bees fly over, as I was walking up the lane from turkey hunting Monday. Walked right in the middle of them but couldn't drop them.
-
Nice to see them still out in the fields, even in the heat. Hope you connect on a nice one.

Selenium is a good thing, lacking in NY soils. I need to see other research to back up some of their claims. -

How to Bring In A Drumming Tom?
landtracdeerhunter replied to landtracdeerhunter's topic in Turkey Hunting
That's the noise, spitting and drumming. The spitting noise is hard to describe but that's as close of wording. He was close but in a heavier underbrush on the edge of the woods. I think I smelled his turkey smell. Like a rutting deer kinda, lol. Did have his interest, but it like he knows how far to go. I think this old boy has fooled many a hunter, myself included. This morning, fly down was very early, 4:51 to be exact. Not a sound but a few clucks and wings flapping. Even heard thumps this am.. Once they hit the ground, all silent. Going to try some of the things mentioned and thanks guys. `One tired, drug through the weeds hunter.` Back out tomorrow. -
Always nice to see the first fawns of the year, a new beginning. That may be your future 14 pointer . Thanks for posting.

Congrats on a nice bird.

How to Bring In A Drumming Tom?
landtracdeerhunter replied to landtracdeerhunter's topic in Turkey Hunting
I recorded grouse drumming Past Sunday. This was no grouse. He was close but on private land. Felt like I was this close but, a mile away. -
Got him drumming with a yelping call at 6:50am today. 5 sets and then went silent. He's a tough old bird. Any advise on what to try? Thanks in advance.

We don't have EAB yet, but we do have, I believe is called, ash die back. Moss grows on the trunk, and the lower limbs die. Only some ash are affected where others are untouched.

Legal shooting time for turkey hunting is 1/2 hour before sunrise till noon in YOUR area. On darker days, it may be legal to shoot, but not safe to. Have to use your best judgement. I've had turkeys come in to shooting distance at legal shooting time, but light conditions saved their life. It's stays pretty dark on cloudy days in some of the woods hunted this time of the year. With sunny days, looking into the woods can be pretty tough at certain times too.

Doc brings up a very good point, as Wisconsin has a 100 yard min. for discharge of a weapon near structures. They also define it as a building devoted to human occupancy. Ref: WI DNR.

Great to see more grouse around. Yep, the males were drumming Sunday here too. Got some one audio while taping hen turkeys yelling their heads off. -
Mid May clover plot 2012

Looks good and the deer are sure chowing down. -
The only reason that I asked was because, predators will take the unhatched eggs and clean out the insides. That egg does look like it hatched because the inner membrane looks rolled up inside I believe the hatched poult will feed on the egg shell, until it is strong enough to leave with the mother.
-
Pretty cool find I've seen hatched shells in the nest, but just tiny pieces. Do u thing maybe a predator carried it there?

Early is right on the money. I had it backwards in my first post. Not enough air in the tank, waterlogged. Drain water from the tank to introduce air in the top. Some systems have an air valve in the top of the tank to add air. Be sure to drain water first. Happens to my parents system sometimes. If system wasn't primmed, pump would run all the time without shutting off.

Tank needs the air bleed out .

I like it Eddie. That buck is growin some antlers. That tree stand might come in handy there if he stays.

Eddie, won't work as a guest either. Try downloading again.

Anyone else have any problems with the birds being quiet?
landtracdeerhunter replied to jake03's topic in Turkey Hunting
Just when you think figured these turkeys out, bamb everything changes. Don't think their is any clear cut answer for your question. Found out, don't be afraid to try new things. I been aggressive calling the last 2 days. Read where hunters call to much, we'll you're never know it this morning the way I called. The woods full of hens yelling. Got to be a good thing with real decoys. Good luck and go get'em. -
Few shots this morning, but not out of my gun. Spent 6 hours out in the woods. Going to plow a field today, so I'll hunt it tomorrow. Maybe the crawlers in the plow ground will pull some longbeards out. When I planted my field corn 2 years back, had turkeys walking all over it.

Incredible shots.
