  1. Don't get any ideas: Food Network !
  2. With this disease Covid- 19; SARS-CoV2 virus strain so prevelant in New York, what is your opinion on the upcoming Turkey Season, both youth and regular season? Should the season go on, as it is an outdoor sport with a very limited number of people or should the State just flat out cancel it, as to not encourge people to venture away from their domains? ( This is on condition NYS. doesn't lock down entirely) I'm personally back and forth on this issue at this time. Their are as many pros as their are cons. I ask for a rational discussion, please.
  3. I was looking at the raised flue models that have one half, raised flue; the other half divided flat pan. 2 x 3 or 4. Manufactures really hyping these up. Not sure and more research, on my part is needed. If I was a better welder of stainless. I'd weld one up my self. I will build the firebox myself, to try to keep the price down. Keep my smaller unit for small runs. I so need to upgrade though; as maple is in my blood now.
  4. Ash makes some great project wood also. Wish I had some black ash on the farm to make bushel baskets.
  5. Taps coming out today. Time to build a higher boil rate evaporator.
  6. Boiling right now! Down to about 21 gallons of sap every couple days. Nice to have a dryer day for a change that speeds up my boiling rate. Haven't figure harvest totals yet but, it's going to be real good on 61 taps. Really good maple flavor, which I didn't expect. Saps still coming out clear here, from my deep woods trees.
  7. Have had a gobbler sounding off in the afternoon while I was out gathering maple sap for past two weeks now a ways off. This morning he was very close to me in the front field when he sounded off. Sent chills up my spine. I am also starting to see good hen movement.
  8. Beautiful Place. Enjoy the new addition !
  9. Nice for a change to see parties unity. Dam shame it took a dam little nasty killer virus to do it !
  10. New York State going on P.A.U.S.E. effective Sunday at 8 p.m..
  11. I see where NYS. Maple Weekend has been cancelled as a result of the many Caronaviruses spreading throughout the state. Always a great time to visit some of your area Sugar Houses. Sure will miss the maple donuts; one of my favorites. Bang up year here with 9 gallons of syrup off 396 gallon of sap. Expect the last run into next Wednesday.
  12. History in the making folks. Could be the new normal.
  13. For those of us lucky enough to have the space, and with warmer weather coming to support; a garden would be a great idea to plant this year. With little money, one can support life for quite a while off one. We always live off one right into winter very easily. Get your seeds and fertilizer now. I would exchaust all other sources first before shooting wildlife out of season. Red squirrel and woodchuck would be great, no season game options to think about. And who said, let them eat crow?
  14. I remember these like it was yesterday, LOL.
  15. If I didn't arlready have in house, Lysol, and Clorox, I would make haist to get some on hand. Both are knowned to kill Coronavirus Covid - 19 and Sars. Anti bacterial will not; need Virucidals or anti viral products. Those two products just might make a good stock option to buy right now, in a declining stock market.
  16. My trees all shut down Monday the 24th around 5 pm. with low pressure moving in. Looks like the next run here might start on Leap year day. I don't tap trees in January anymore because of low sugar content. My boil rate was 62 and 57 to 1 , two different years. Light syrup though.
  17. Maple Season 2020 is upon us. This years going to be a tough call because of the milder Winter. Hope for sap to run into April, or it's going to be a quick season.
  18. $18 dollars at a local market for light golden amber syrup.
  19. I make my wife something special for Valentine's Day every year. Something from the heart. Something she can remember me by when I leave this earth. We use to do the dinner thing, buy candy, ballons, etc, ect. ect.. We even went on a pretty carrige ride up in Buffalo once. You see, after you have been with someone for so long, and get up in age, you start to believe that life is far more than than every day moumental things. Live the special moments, special holidays, special times like these. Learning to appriciate what you have. I Love My Wife !
  20. I seen some of these in plastic form years ago; wondered then if they are effective call then. Well, I ran across some of these tubes recently by someone who makes them. First thing come to mind, sure are one of the best eye catching calls I ever have seen. Be a cool collection. We all know though, that a call is only as good as the operator behind it. Then sometimes the turkeys have other ideas. These calls measure 3 inches long and an inch and an eight in diameter. Has anyone used- had luck with this style call? Can they be effectice? How would you rate them against a box call?
  21. Use Castle Liquid Torch; does a better job and never get asked.
