  1. Got more ground turned over yesterday. No pics yet, as they would be of plowed ground only. Weather permitting, will go in next week and get things worked up for pumpkins, planting June 15th. Figure on other plantings end of July with early oats and radish. My wheat looks great coming into the boot early. The Urea really give it a nice green color Also seeing young clover seedlings.. I did see a Tom turkey in it, which was a pleasant surprise. Believe he's after young grasshoppers. Fawns galore here as usual. Hope everyone's planting thrive this season.
  2. I would say anything smaller than 5/8" grade 5 would bend. That size may not give the digging ability of a smaller diameter without added weight. I'd also want a larger O.D. washer. Where's an engineer when you need them? LOL.
  3. Flaky chips. Caustic soda is added to city water supply to seal leaks. I don't think carbon filters can remove it.
  4. SC are $90/ HR. LOL. Plugged inlet screens would just make the tube fill up slower. Any electrical function happening in the WM. Like motor running, buzzing, humming, Timer clicking?
  5. Well now, don't that beat all. What'ya go and do a thing like that for. I was just adding more butter to my popcorn.
  6. Fine'em $25 and a meal at McDonalds. That'll teach'em.
  7. Crappiest job I had was cleaning out pig pens in high school. Boy. that was hard work. No cab on the tractor and the wind always blew in the wrong direction, LOL. Few months later, went to work for the county highway department and stopped working all together. Card playing was fun though.
  8. Valuable assets are tough to come by, these days.
  9. \ 2018 isn't looking much better at this point.
  10. Cornell has an excellent guide to planting forages on their web site for New York State. They break the state up from north to south. I personally prefer frost seeding all of my legumes except for alfalfa which I direct seed beginning of August when the rains typically kick in. It works out great during a lull in farming, late winter. If planted late spring, highly depended on lower moisture conditions on shallow planted seed , although last summer would have worked great for starting legumes. Trefoil seed has a natural oil coating, that preserves the seed longer. It's a strong legume that withstands extremes. I think you'll like it.
  11. Seen my first fawns on May 2nd here. Not newborn as they moved well. Breeding in October here as witnessed.
  12. I didn't get invited. I can see the wedding, but least they could off done is sent a note for the reception.
  13. In anyone's opinion, what would a 2 year old full mount ruffle grouse mounted on a half log be worth? It's in beautiful shape and really a nice job done. Friend and I can't come up with a fair value. He realizes he won't get near the money invested in the taxidermy. I have never seen one mounted and he kinda grew on me, LOL. Any input is welcomed. One other thing, it's not a NY. grouse.
  14. It's a real problem. The machines have no mercy. I lightly kick into areas where it looks like one could be hiding. The real young ones don't run. Few week old will run a ways, then lie down. Some years are worst than others. My seedings winter killed, so being thinner, hope it's not an issue this season.
  15. We grew it for seed for years. On our poorer drained, lower ph soil, it grows very well . Later maturing. Reseeds itself. Some of my seedings have have trefoil in them for many years. Seeds not cheap though. Deer and turkeys both make good use of it. My seeding rate for hay forage runs 6 -8 lb. of trefoil; 3 lbs of red clover, and 3 lbs, of a good grass mixture. I use Climax Timothy. Holds the legumes up. I add some blue grass seed for green color in the bale; not needed for forage.
  16. Hard to top clover; then their's Birdsfoot Trefoil.
  17. I would use GPS, but the trouble is my property is up the street a ways on it.
  18. Just ran across these pictures from a couple. Thought I'd post for those who never seen it. Not the best quality, but you get the idea.
  19. Here's some pics of a grapevine with a nine inch base. I couldn't even guess how old it is. Still growing today.
  20. I have to be very careful while cutting hay. Doe place young fawns under lodged areas of the field, especially during cloudy days. Heavy clover patches seem to be prime areas here. I can only guess how many get run through these larger haybines, farms run today.
  21. I still worry about a frost till Memorial Day for peppers and beans.
