Been seeing two adult hens with three poults daily now. I believe one has two poults, the other one. The hen with the two will give the one poult a good peck if it gets to close to her. Still the size of quail. Plenty to eat and drink, now with these rains. Will help what we got.

I have saved seed from many growers around the county. I get a good toss up of verities. The yellow verity is not popular here. Usually a pumpkin will start to turn color way before the stem starts to dry. The drought may have had a role this year.

I dam proud to be a New York sportsman. New York has a lot to offer. It depends how you view the the glass as to half full or half empty

During this drought, the area ponds have all but dried up, so I have been filling old troughs with water. I have found turkey droppings near the site, so I hope it helped.

Some nice harvests there with a very nice looking firearm. My muzzleloader is my " go to " firearm. We buy Black Horn by the pound, LOL.

I have found some 6 inch seedlings red oak and shag bark hickory under some elder trees that I will attempt to transplant this fall. They are tougher to transplant due to a fast growing tap root. Would it be better to root prune this season and transplant next?

Just hit the two inch mark here for August. AS dry as it gets, always seems to bounce back.

I have a hundred or so of white oak, ankle high that needs to be transplanted. Planted nuts last fall and now are a good eight inches tall. Had good luck last year planting maples in Early October.

Life is what we make of it! Right now, I'm enjoying fresh pancakes topped with blackberries, whip cream, and golden maple syrup, all but the flour off the farm. It's going to be a great day!

We have also set some farm rules that we stick to. A big boy harvest is an added bonus. We're about due again.

I live in the fields in August and have only seen 3 adults hens with 2 quail size poults.

Mowed 5 acres yesterday. Usually get 20 small squares an acre. This year, be lucky to get 20 off the whole thing. Turkeys came into the field to feed on a good crop of grasshoppers. Their were 2 poults, not even the size of quail with 3 hens.

I keep track and participate. The poults here, are very small this year. July looked promising with good hatch counts. I now see adult hens grouping up with very few, very small poults.

Find a niche, special to you the hunter. Something special, maybe not many do. I prepare and eat a nice breakfast, while in the stand at least once a hunting season. So much fan to prepare and the greatest to eat.

Couple of 5 minute showers this morning that will sure help. Rain into a gully washer up along Lake Ontario this morning from 104 north. Cooling off!

Funny how some deer won't touch certain things. I believe the farmers got the deer use to radish here, planting it into wheat stubble. Three years now, no radish has been planted in large fields. I kicked in with radish; BOOM.

Are you going to try my mixture this season?

I plant the oats first, about an inch or so deep or into the moisture for a dry year like this one. Then spread the radish seed on top, giving it a good roll down. Planted oats in beets too. Deer feed heavily on the oats till their gone. They hit the radish mid to late October. They didn't eat many beets or turnips when their radish around. I wouldn't trade my oat radish mixture for anything else. Sixty four lb. of oats and eight lb. of radish to the acre makes a nice stand. Worked into muzzleloader season last year. 2013 and 14, deer fed on the radish into February.
