  1. Disc up some wheat stubble that I didn't frost seed clover on. The rains of Monday had little effect, as it is to dry to sprout seed. Did work in the urea. Least it's worked now to hold any moisture we do get. It can be planted and rolled quickly.
  2. I will expect another October 16th start date to bow season. Any change will pleasantly surprise me.
  3. The drought moved the turkey to another location here. Now with the rain of a few days ago, the grasshopper population is increasing on the second cutting hay fields. Hope to see the broods of a few weeks ago soon.
  4. Darn things been noisey this season. Seemed early. One flew by with a bird hot on it's trail. Deer came out Sunday in the field while I was baling straw. Grabbed a few mouth fulls of clover. Walked right along with the tractor. Last years doe, I believe. As if to say hello, LOL. Yes the year is slipping right bye.
  5. Take a look around you to see what is planted. Then plant what isn't available. Of coarse, I like my radish- oat mixture. Planted an acre today. Can't go wrong with red clover, deer candy.
  6. The past Big Game cameras all had the control function buttons on the inside, sealed from enviroment. I don't understand why a company would want them external. Costs should be higher to produce. The market place is expanding for other usage other than trail cams. Maybe for inside use only.
  7. About 7/10th here also. Moisture down to four inches in depth on worked ground.
  8. Nice welcomed 5/10th of an inch here. Going to go back and work the moisture in when the mud stops sticking to the tires. Then the plantings begin.
  9. With this drought continuing, I'm running on the side of caution, as to how much seed to buy. Don't like year to year carry over of seed that can't be fed. Already worked in 300 lbs. of available nitrogen for the radish oat mixture. Oats will lie in the ground for a while, if moisture isn't present, don't know about the radish.
  10. Disc up some radish oat land yesterday. Not one hint of moisture anywhere. Weather people say .22/100 of an inch of moisture fell here the month of July. Don't know if they measure hail. I'm optimistic we will get moisture in early August to spout everyone's seeds and get a good growing on them.
  11. Cut off date for me for WW,WR is September 10th, western part of the state for my plantings. I tend to go earlier for good top growth for deer feeding. Deer feed on it early November right through muzzleloader season. I mix only oats, timothy, and bluegrass with my Daikon radish seed and plant by last of July. Frost seed red clover mixed with trefoil in March. Works for me but, maybe not everyone. Clear seed alfalfa till August 15th.
  12. At least most of you didn't lose part of your name, LOL.
  13. Radish seed is running $110/ bushel. I see where they want $3.50/ lb in smaller quantities. Purple tops are about the same price. Buckwheat $20.
  14. Just reading the replies here, their is no clear cut easy answer to Doc's post. Peoples attitudes have changed so much since I remember from back in the 60"s and 70's. It use to be a pleasure to greet a neighbor or a occasional city foe, while hunting on your farm. They were welcomed on our place and we welcomed on their's.
  15. I'll have to start growing rye again, LOL. Soft white wheat, $8 retail. Oats are running $6. I get a quote for radish this morning.
  16. Wow! You go burmjohn. Shakeup is a good thing.
  17. Tax breaks would only work for some. Show me some gold, then we'll talk.
  18. That must have been some boyfriend grow. Wait a minute, that wasn't Mr B ? LOL.
  19. Leave some flour out in a sealed container for months on the counter. A surprise awaits you, LOL. Cooking kills the eggs, most of the time. Old unopened boxes of cereal can can yield some interesting wiggle little things. Our root cellar has moths in it this time of year. The cool air attracts the little buggers. Bats in the belfry, LOL.
  20. I made some buckskin leather out of deer hides, but not strong enough for the purpose intended. I bought a roll on a flea market for pennies on the dollar, but pretty much used up now. I've purchased some 8 and 10 oz cow hide leather from a company up in the New York ; the name escapes me at the moment. A ll online. It ain't cheap. It is good leather and fast turn around. I have been looking for local people for two years now and seems like a lost art. Don't do to much and my work is rather crude right now. Try buying some bulk scrap pieces to try your hand on. Yhis is what I did, not out much money if you screw it up. I made small change purses to start, then moved up. They sell for fair money and seem to be popular.
  21. I have never tried coyote. How did they cooked it ?
  22. From what I have witnessed over the years in our flat lands, Doe with fawn will bed near or right in food sources. My red clover grass mixed hay fields are loaded with bedding areas with mom and baby(ies) when I cut. This, I believe is why buck visits are limited in the area during the summer months. Doe keep the buck at distance. Once the hay is harvested, deer change their patterns until new growth emerges. Then Doe and young'ins come in for a good source of protein, round two. This years born deer will bed in new growth, Mothers tend not to be as trustworthy. Once my carrot, radish, and oat mixtures come to life, the pattern changes once again, all bets are off. Thus, food sources have a good deal of influence on bedding. True scouting of bedding areas should partake all year long to get a good assessment of what actually takes place in a particular area..
  23. We just missed the 5:15 one but had a 10 minute thunder storm soaker at 10:30 and another at 11:40 am. . The last one had bb size hail and 7/10 ." Smells fresh out after this rain. Every things looks a little greener.
