  1. I cannot even take an educated guess. All I know is I counted 60 shots before our 7:18 am. sunrise before losing count. The first series of 5 rounds were at 6:34 am.,way to early to shot a firearm safely. With no DEC. officer enforcement what so ever in this area, this problem continues to grow.
  2. My fun gun, the old Remington 12 gauge sighted in with Brenneke 3" KO shells at 100 yards. It fits me like a glove and is a perfectly tuned shooting machine. Some things just feel right on this earth, and I can't argue with success.
  3. I'm torn between 3 different hunting areas miles apart. Deer have pretty much gone nocturnal in all three and it will be hit or miss in any one area. First time in all the firearms start, haven't laid down a fixed area. Got my eyes on a couple fair bucks, one of which I have a five year history with, so maybe that could be my first choice this weekend.
  4. The 640 had an original vane style hydraulic pump that failed due to people not removing the 3 point housing to clean the bottom of the hydraulic housing, as they had no hydraulic filter. Some have been converted over to the later 641 piston pump. This pump is a better choice. Live power take off was available on later models but had to be ordered by the dealer. Most farmers wouldn't pay the extra $300 or so at the time so most don't have it. The 640 had a 134 cubic inch motor that needed all the radiator space for cooler and will not withstand much plugging.
  5. That last years arrow visited " No Man's Land."
  6. The OP handled the situation really well. I'd give you a thumbs up emoticon if I could find one.
  7. Says it 38 here. Raw and damp feeling walking up. A nice tom in the tomatoes. Hadn't seen a turkey in a while here, now all to once their back. To bad I didn't get my fall turkey permit, LOL.
  8. Overcast and windy here. Dark lake effect snow clouds showing their ugly face. Good day for stalking.
  9. Nothing short of incredible. If it came from the opposite side of the body, how did it miss the lungs? Maybe a deflection off rib or shoulder bone. Bet he had a limp.
  10. I have been invited to hunt on 1000 acre family farms in Illinois several times, but always to cheap to spend the money. Instead, I'll foot the extra cash on hunter related items.
  11. Button bucks always get disowned by they mother, when they start to bother them; like a few months after their born. Doe fawn can stay with their mothers for years, if the mother survives. That buck could be from last year, if he's a four or six; or could be older.
  12. Steady light rain this morning but, the deer don't mind. They were walking tree to tree eating leaves. I had to chase turkey out of my tomato plants again, on the walk up. Strange year; no frost and still picking tomatoes. Peppers have to be picked green. Red comes on, they start to rot.
  13. I really had two screen names. Landtracdeerhunter was my first until the site got a suppository; then I became landtracdeerhun. The ter got flushed. I was thinking of posting in the lost and found section but I didn't see one, LOL. I thank the person that replaced the ter.
  14. Had a great afternoon sit. A large amount of rainfree time. I had the liberty to see a rare flock of pheasants. I had to pinch myself, LOL.
  15. Looks like about 3/4 of an inch in the rain gauge. Afternoon lull in the activity. Started back in raining about 4:20 while I watched the rain drip off the stands roof. Goretex still works, LOL.
  16. Are they eating both tops and bulbs? Sounds like you have had a freeze in your area with sugar building. We have not had a killing frost as of yet. I would say spotty, yes. Acres of corn that came up late July, because of the drought is still green and growing in the same field with ripe, ready for picking ears. The oats have been eaten on my Radish oat mix but still have plenty of heads showing, unlike last year when they were gone. Radish have been touched very little to this point. Acreage the same. Deer have visited the clover, but many blossoms still showing, unlike last year. Bucks don't even seem to interested in doe at this point, here. Usually, we have chasing going on by now. Maybe this cooler spell will set wheels in motion here. That buck should be better tasting than the one you shot last season. Oh, and I'm not worried, just stating for informational purposes, LOL.
  17. I just got in from a 4 hour sit. Didn't start raining here till little after 8. Deer all moved predawn with the exception of 2 1/2 year old buck that came in behind me. He did zig zags in the open field, then looked back at me as like he was saying goodbye. More in likely caught my scent in the northeast breeze.
  18. I'll be out enjoying the wet weather hunting. Call it what you will; but I enjoy the taste of a rewarding shot.
  19. Actually, I have seen more deer injured in firearms season than bow. Maybe because of greater percentage of firearm hunters.
  20. My goodness; now I am confused. I would agree with the first two grow said. I have thousand of ash on the property. The bottom bark pic looks like ash bark to me. The bottom limbs are dying off most of our with ash die back disease. Not to be confused with Emerald Bore. A whitest green moss also grows on the bark of most trees.
