    We see large groups of deer during muzzleloader season, then over the past several winters, a group of 7 or 8 mature fawns, with two to four mature deer on scattered days. I'm sure patterns will change here once farmers start growing more vegetables with the coming of Pride Pak Canada building a new processing plant, one county over.

    All this shed hunting talk made me go out late yesterday afternoon. Soaked up that sunshine, I did. Used the light of the silvery moon to walk through the full ditches. Dam near bought the farm on a boot full. No luck yet. Good luck Biz!

    The trees run here Friday afternoon for a few hours. Some of my old standbys ran into Saturday until the sun went behind the clouds. Not the sap flow of mid to late March but, some of the lightest golden amber syrup I have ever made. Monday will be my 3rd boil down day.

    Beautiful day yesterday. You just can't beat it for Feburary 20th. Makes you feel like turkey season not that far off. Tapped more maples, new power steering pump on the car, set some trusses on the sugar shack, sold a few ton of hay and shed hunting right up till dark.

    It's tough to find sheds when the deer are still wearing them, as in the case around this area. The only thing I might add is somehow, I get the feeling a shed is close by. Sometimes, I actually think I can smell them. What the hell is wrong with me?

    I keep a small farm atmosphere to attract game birds. It works!

    Well, the temp. has dropped from 10 at 5:30 this morning to 0, after clearing skies. I'm ready for a thaw again.

    I now have to learn how to make the sheaths for these knives. I have wholesale companies that sell sheaths, but to "plain jane" for my standards. Just can't find anyone in the leather making business. I want some really stand out ones.

    About 9 " of real fine snow as of noon, on top of the 10" LE. we got last Friday. More snow on the ground than we've had all winter. Looks like the wax will go on the cross country skis and snowshoes will come out after all.

    I have seen three legged bucks before, but usually the front. I don't tend to see them a second season.

    Is there room for improvement, definitely. I think the problem lies at a higher level. The penalties are not severe enough for judges to impose on the law breakers. Hit people where it hurts the most, others will sit up and take notice.

    A balmy +5 here at 6 am.. Actually feels pretty good. If your battery made it through the weekend, then your smooth sailing. These temps. were a much better check than any load test going.

    Air temp. of -13. It's so cold, the hens are laying ice cubes in the chicken house.

    As to the question, anyone sick; cough cough cough. I hate sinus infections.

    I say it hasn't been this cold in about a year; -7 right now, winds 10 mph, gust to 30; 10 inches of snow on the ground from yesterday, 1- 4 pm.. What's it like in your neck of the woods?

    I won't take any shot with a firearm past 75 yards, and that better be on a nice rest or bipod. All the deer I have shot, with the exception of my first buck deer were within bow range. I always like to watch the deer go down or get a feel of the area entered if they don't fall right away. I can't do that at longer distances. A personal preference.

    We have black locust trees growing in fence rows, that once were fence posts. No mention of any nut trees.

    What about a tire iron?. Guess with these new vehicles, it doesn't even matter any more. A can of fix a flat. LOL.
