I use that exact model. Works great. 2 pieces of advice to go with it: be mindful of the exhaust. It's hot coming out of the back of a running car. Also, sitting back there, a deer will be subject to any slop on the roads, so wrapping it is a good idea. That also shields it somewhat from other drivers who may not love seeing your dead deer's insides on display.

Quick update on the season.. I'm in 8a, wny. Apple orchards, corn and beans for miles in all directions. I have access to 200+ acres that is 90% ag and is rimmed by oak. I mention all that because, in years past, deer were obviously abundant. This year though I've had very little camera activity and almost no bucks. My last pull showed fewer than 50 pix from 5 cameras over a 2 week period. No rubs yet, no scrapes. In 5 sits, I've seen one doe with a pair of fawns. There are lots of acorns, but they look mostly untouched. No reports of EHD in the area. I've talked to a few guys who hunt the area and they are reporting the same. The fields this year are corn which is still standing, so it's possible they're hiding in there out of site.

Chilly breezy and damp in 8a.. been in stand since 6ish. Had 2 deer under me around 7 but too dark to see. I'm thinking doe and fawn. Just saw 15 turkey feed in to the corn 100yds to my right.

You're a grinder, aren't you? I'll typically marinate and just toss on the grill. Otherwise i'll slice thin and cook them up as fajitas.

Been stalking the forecast. This front moving through should make tomorrow morning interesting..

I should be more careful with what I say. Just pulled a fat tick off the puppy's face, right next to his eye. Must've picked up while pheasant chasing last weekend. I'll try this again.. I've never seen a red ferrari in my garage. I'd have to Google it just to know what it looks like... Here's to hoping!

I hunt 8C and 8A. Red oaks are dropping nuts by the bushel. Since you have that mobility with the saddle, I'd suggest taking a walk around and look for / setup near any fresh sign you find.

Is it really much different than eating squirrel? City, dumpster diving squirrels that eat garbage, no way. But grain and nut fed squirrels from the country? They're not bad IMO. Pigeon is likely the same. You just have to get past the image of flocks of them eating garbage in the streets. I'd be willing to try them if i knew where they came from.

That's if you use bluetooth. I don't know what options are out there, but off the top of my head there are 2 way hand held radios, e callers, etc... that don't rely on bluetooth or cell network.

Here's another lead for you guys in the Batavia area. Bontrager's has another auction coming up with a munch of lots of ammo. Prices on some (.22) rounds is already high and there are still 6 days left. This is interesting. I was always under the impression that e calls were a no no for deer. If someone had the resources, it seems like they could use this to push deer toward them, similar to a drive. Say you had devices set at 150 yds in 2 or 3 directions. You'd potentially be able to push deer toward you by using non natural noises. People talking, fireworks, etc...

Smoked that pheasant from yesterday. Brined it overnight in a simple brine with a splash of maple.. wrapped it bacon today and smoked for 3 hours, give or take. Before and after pics.. oh yeah, and I think I spatchcocked it upside down..

Got out this morning in Braddock. 4 guys with a dog. Took 2 birds. Practically had to step on them to make them flush. All in all a good morning. Here's the kid all excited to see the bird.

Didn't know this. I could easily bring them an entire deer.. slim jims, smoked jalapeno cheddar sausages, pepperoni, blueberry maple breakfast, etc... But that would be quite an expensive tab.

I'll be out in the morning with my pup and my father in law looking for leftovers. Anyone make it over to Braddock Bay this morning?

Got about 15 more minutes before I have to head out. Kids last soccer game of the season starts at 10.. so far I've seen 84 squirrels, 923 geese, and a red fox. One of the squirrels saw the fox and has been telling at him for the last 10 minutes...
