  1. 1 of our group poorly shot a buck around 8 in the morning. Because of the snow 5 of us tracked/ chased that deer all day. Amazing how tough they are. He swam the tailrace twice. We finally cut him off and finished him off at last legal light. Original shooter taged the deer . Now if a stranger had shot him during the coarse of the day and claimed him. We wouldn't have disagreed. That deer wasn't going to die quickly from his wound. Unless infection set in, he probably would have survived.
  2. I hear you.. if someone came along tracking or even just looking for their wounded deer I would consider it theirs to tag... A friend shot a spike opening morning of firearms season a couple years back because he saw it was wounded. It was shot in the leg and guts. He was hopeing whoever shot it would come along and claim it. They never did.. he sat the rest of the morning and watched a couple shooters (8 and 10 point) walk by, tagless
  3. Over the years , we have tracked many a deer. Occasionally needing a finishing shot..Who ever hit the deer 1st always tags the deer.. At times we felt like it was "our" deer, after miles of tracking. Never any arguments or discussions regardless of size..
  4. Flushed from all the rope pulling and cart pulling I guess ..lol..plus .Not sure they wanted their pictures on the interweb. Ha ha
  5. Thanks. You see what the guys think about dragging one out of the bottom..ha ha
  6. Good luck tomorrow! If you have extra help tracking and know the lay of the land at all ,maybe you could post up a watcher or two at a likely escape rt..
  7. Congrats. It sucks to see him walk , but makes a good story. You absolutely did the right thing.
  8. Same here.. With a gun. Everything seems to slow down...of coarse with a gun my success rate has to be just under 100%.. With my bow it is totally different story.. I fall to pieces... I havnt yet figured out how to consistently lower my heart rate and relax.. .. and my success rate is no where near 100% Im thinking practice is the key. One year I shot my bow 100s of times every week all year out to 70 yds.. My confidence level was really high so I could calm myself down better for the shot.. I havnt been practicing as much the last few years and I really get the fever again..
  9. Me too ! On that note.. I'm thinking of selling this $:^% xop sit and climb stand. It scares the bejesus our of me..;) Esp. In this wind .
  10. Well that's it! You guys have done it now.. I have wasted the last 15 minutes of my hunt catching up on this thread.. Who knows how many deer walked by in this rain... I better get down before it's too late...;)
  11. I like the science. I remembered having this discussion when we were young hunters . We did an experiment. With my back turned to the shooters back, I could hit the ground at about the same time the arrow hit the target at 30 yds.. and I'm sure a deer has faster reflexes than me..lol
  12. I have a live doe "decoy" laying down at 42 yds.. I wish she was a little clser with a clearer shot. I could shoot her when i was done with her..ha
  13. Cool. I parked next to truck with big team hoyt sticker on back window thus afternoon is why I asked..
  14. Having chains in the trunk for emergencies is probably a good idea.. As long as you aren't on seasonal rds any car with decent tires will suffice.. My observations after driveing for 30 yrs on the rds up here is that the most important tool is the driver... There have been a lot of people in the ditch and or stuck with 4x4s and awd cars .
  15. Perfect morning.. just waiting for mr. big.. One lone doe walked by 50yds out and swam the river(Further than I wanted to shoot).. that makes 3674 geese and 1 doe sighted so far..lol
  16. 1st sit....Hopng that they start moving this week. Or next will work.. I already walked for a 1/2 hour out of my way by accident on the way in this morning.. We are a week earlier than we normally come and I cannot believe the amount of leaves left on the trees.
  17. They even built one somewhere that lo9ks like a tree to get approved
  18. That is impressive, Wooly! Have you ever been to a woodsmans day and see the chainsaw carving competition.. pretty neat. One I went to , gave them an hour and then they auctioned them off, highest price won..
  19. Thanks... We have never had a camp either, so C cabins are our camp.we have been going for 10 years or so. All of us a year or 2 from fifty and" grew up " (This could be debated) together since before kindergarten.. I saw more mature bucks , my 1st year there than I had seen in the previous 20 at home..lol. Even if you cannot get your eyes on one just seeing rubs on the occasional 6" tree gets you excited. Oh , and every year I say I'm going to exercise in preperation for the hills....but I dont..;)
  20. We are heading down Sunday.. yeeee ha!
