  1. It's what I use for worm(plastic) fishing bass. Has less stretch making it very sensitive easier to see and or feel those subtle bites. Gives you a good hook set too. With rubber worms you have to have a pretty firm hook set to get the hook through the rubber and into the fishes mouth. They do make reels and pole that are supposed to work better with braided lines. I have never found the need though. I pretty much always use a bait caster. When I get snagged I just point the pole at the snag, put thumb on reel, and pull.. sometimes it breaks, sometimes you get the tree..lol For the equivalent strength line it seems like the braided does cat better. More limp and no memory.
  2. I caught this beast today.. 18" crappie. My biggest yet. I took a quick picture and returned her. Hoping she's bigger next year..
  3. Crazy! I've never seen water churned up by the whitecaps blown into the air before . It's coming through in sheets on our little lake. Oh, and we are without power too..
  4. Not much help here with the switch. But I am left eye dominant and shoot right handed as well.. it took me a while but i have "trained "my eyes so i can focus out of either eye and shoot with both eyes open.. it's kind of nice as I came up shooting guns left handed until I was able to switch but now I am ambidexteyerous....lol
  5. Dang. I feel left behind. I don't think I matured to that level.
  6. I was quite a few years before I knew what that sound was too..
  7. Right! Are you a fisherman/woman if you throw a bobber and worm out and just sit and wait? OR do we need to be in a boat casting with pinpoint accuracy , targeting that trophy fish?
  8. I definitely see your point. I personally prefer close range hunting , no matter the weapon. I probably spend 25% of my time in stand with my eyes closed, relying on my hearing. Occasionaly napping. Am i still hunting ? Lol.. Works well for me..
  9. Shooting well IS a vital hunting skill . If you can't shoot well you're a poor hunter..
  10. Ha.ha.ha. .lol.. I can hit a tennis ball all day long with my crossbow at 60 yds .At that distance my 420 grain bolt is still travelling faster than my 400 grain arrow is right off my bow. I feel that i am a pretty good shot with my compound but saying they are comparable is a joke. They are certainly very similar balisticly compared to a firearm, but that's it. There is more skill involved (hunting and shooting) hunting with a compound. Probably comparable to a compound vs a traditional bow.
  11. Can't let this debate die, we only have 18 pages..lol I've said it before. I like the progressive season idea. For example.2 weeks traditional, 2 weeks compounds, 2 weeks crossbow. Why not? I think this will help keep some of our hunting traditions alive. I already have a xbow. Still need to get a traditional bow though.. ( I've been looking)
  12. Me too! I was just thinking of driving 2 1/2 hours one way to bass pro in Utica to buy some crappie gear...lol
  13. Do what doc said. It will be cleaned up in no time.
  14. Awesome work and buck! I shot a drop tined buck my 1st year of hunting. I have been trying for over 25 years to get another..lol
  15. For me a pulled/strained muscle is similar to a bad bruise type of pain . Where a pinched nerve is very sharp like a tooth ache. I'm lucky .When I pinch my sciatic nerve I can ussualy find a position that comes close to eliminating all the pain. I just cannot walk or move .lol.. Back pain is no joke. You can take ibuprofen and Tylenol at the same time because one is processed by your liver and the other your kidneys.
  16. Scary. Been there done that. I was still in high school on our local mountain in Tupper Lake when the lift stopped and the brake failed. I was 3 chairs up and got turned around, off and out of the way before the next came down.. It was only a double chair .Luckily A quick thinking and large pair of lift attendants were just grabbing people and throwing them out of the way before the next chair arrived. Nobody was seriously injured.
  17. It's funny how things change our old horse pasture had a large patch of sumac. It has slowly been dying off over the last bunch of years and being taken over by honeysuckle..
  18. Back in my day . We ran outside durring a thunderstorm and took a shower under the roof valley. Beat the heck out of sitting in the tub and getting what seemed like boiling water poured over our heads by mom .lol
  19. Absolutely ! I never pull the trigger unless I "know" I'm going to hit them. I have seen many a deer run away without a shot fired...lol. Even with years of practice I havnt mastered the proper lead on a deer. 70 % of the running deer I have shot I shot in the guts. With the proper load they are always within 100yds tops. I am a little biased against the 223 because of a friend that always carried one. I have tracked too many of his deer over hills and through the swamps that would have been dead long before with a "better" caliber and bullet choice.. Or like you said. A good shot and it wouldn't have been a bad tracking job. A patient hunter who never takes a low odds shot would be fine with one though. A 223 Is adequate
  20. I hate that saying.;). Now.. Chances are you will kill them. But will you find them ?
