They don't have front teeth on top. Sometimes you will see it stripped up 10' or so .. 1st time I came across this in a local swamp I really wondered until doing some research..lol

If you enjoy bow hunting, no.. if you are just as happy with a gun then it's great.. In most areas I hunt the deer are totally different animals after the guns come out..

How do you figure out who is the best deer hunter ?
ncountry replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
Oh come on now.. We all know I'm the best... raised along the deep 1000 acre swamps of NNY.. Just ask me.. Just in case no one caught it I'm kidding.. -
Man! It's bad enough when I forgot my cocking rope..

The heck with full inclusion. We should be fighting to remove width and poundage restrictions. They are making some awesome new crossbows.. On 2nd thought , maybe not they are pricey too..
-
Lol.. I joined NYBH and gave them my whole paycheck last year because of a similar thread.. JK.. the only thing I have against full inclusion is that we will over time lose our bow hunting tradition. (See we can already call compounds traditional gear).. The way things are changing we will be able to use firearms all season within a few decades.. The only thing that may prevent that is when they finally take all of our guns.. Only a very few will be shooting a bow if any kind... Meanwhile , I'm thinking of carrying my crossbow instead of a mzl this weekend..

I like. I had never seen one like this until this past summer.

You just compared an average crossbow to a speed bow . Not really a fair comparison esp. If you take into account the average draw length. Even though to be fair, I don't think the added kinetic energy amounts to a huge advantage.. still pretty low #s.. I think the main advantage of a crossbow is the ease of shooting and being accurate. Point , aim, pull trigger. Done. No worries about bending at the waist, proper anchor, or proper grip. All of which can change poi by feet at 30yds ...

GET READY FOR SAFE ACT II

I haven't used an eligal drug in my life, but I would support legalization. If for no other reason than it seems that the war on drugs has been an absolute failure and waste of countless resources. Measured in lives and $$. -
Lol..sorry, Crappy... I was thinking it was just a fishing moniker.... Btw. Adk's post is spot on. That is why i hunt with a single shot.
-
Out of likes.... That's funny ...lol
-
He, probably pulled that from my post..And if crappie has killed close to a hundred deer and only poorly hit 6 he needs an award.
-
No, I just sit in my treestand and they seem to scamper out of every tree around me..ha.. ha.

Maybe. I've always shot light for cartridge bullets. (Big believer in hydrostatic shock) 125s in my 308 and 150 in my 300. Definitely nothing to brag about but I've shot probably 1/2 dozen over the years 100% in the guts. All dropped within sight, the longest run being 50yds . ..They more fell down than bedded down and did require a killing shot when I walked up on them... Now If for some reason they did run further it would have been a very difficult track.. If I'm just that lucky, I'll take it lol.... totally different story with a heavier constructed bullet though.

Yesterday a friend saw a decent buck dogging a doe hard. Her mouth was open and panting..

Not live any longer.. I had what I thought was a combination of 5 does and dawn's come in from behind me.. Sitting here in my chair looking at some pictures I took . I see a 6th deer a little ways in front of the rest.. I never even saw that one until now.. probably a 12 point leading the pack..;)- 10374 replies

Nope. I don't agree. A gut shot deer with a typical 30-30 load will be a difficult find. A gut shot deer with my 300 win mag shooting 150gr rem core locks will not go out of sight(50yds tops). I have screwed up before. (Never have mastered shooting a moving deer)
-
I think you guys are just stuck on your points... Storm is absolutely correct a bigger cartridge or one designed to do the most damage will be an advantage if one screws up.. BM is absolutely right that shooting one where you are supposed to is the most important thing. I don't imagine either one of you would argue with this. Hug it out !

Mine was a 9 point with a drop tine. It was the last week of November 1992 or 3. .I think... it was one of my most memorable kills. He was within 10 yds for over 1/2 an hour.. I was sitting on the ground in some brush with a couple 1" saplings tight in front of me. He came in right of center and of course my gun was on the left side of said sapling. It took me all of the 1/2 hour to raise the gun up and around so I could shoot him left handed at less than 20 feet without him seeing me.. And it was the start of my bad reputation of shooting them as far away from the rd as I could get..lol.. it took 4 of us until 12:30 that morning to drag him out..

A few years back, we had something similar happen.. In our unit during early mzl season you couldn't take a buck with mzl but you could with a bow... one of the guys shot a buck with his bow but it was a poor shot. The deer ran over and actually bedded down right in front of another friend carrying a mzl.. Due to our proximity to a LEO residence he didn't finish him off (normaly anyone of us would have). The deer ended up getting up and led us on a merry chase. All ended well but it was way more difficult than it should have been..lol Legal vs moral. Don't always align. Imho
