Looking Good! Make sure when you place the river rock you are extra clean and neat. They are especially hard to clean thin set off of with all the irregular nooks and crannies.. Though that should be true of all tile work. It rarely pays to rush the install it always takes longer to clean after.. Don't ask me how much tile work it took for me to learn my lesson...lol -
Lol. Hope your joking. That's how the story about "how I got mauled by a bear" starts .

Enjoy your trip. We were there last summer and had a good time.

I too am excited for the season to start. This is probably the least prepared I have ever been though. I have been working 7 days a week and stupid hours . Trying to catch up.. I don't do as much hunting up here as in the past. Im usually trying to save a buck tag for my yearly trip to the southern tier, so most bucks get a pass .A 2 1/2 Year buck is hard to come by where I usually hunt. I actually have been looking at Lonesome Bay state forest (off the end of black lake)as a potential new spot to check out.

We are neighbors. Lol. I live in Lisbon. Have you been on Black lake or the River much this year?

Archery hunting is my favorite. -
Nice! I assume you disassembled. Looks like a task for a crane otherwise..lol
-
We will be down 10/29 for 2 weeks. This is 1 week earlier than normal. We will see how that affects the hunting for us. I cannot hardly wait..
-
That is quite the change since last year. Looks great! Enjoy

Brothel or guide service?

I'm with you.. every swamp I hike or drive by I think of what a perfect spot.. I live roughly 1/2 hour north of the park. The only other moose i have seen in the US was hit by a truck as the moose walked out of my yard onto the rd... you never know where they will be now a days.
-
That is quite the accomplishment! I've hiked a bunch of them over the years. Not anywhere near all 46 through..lol. I hiked most of the way up Mt Washington, probably 15 yrs ago, I think it was mid June. .. 2 of us slept at the trailhead in my 1985 toyota pickup . It wasn't very comfy .. We hiked up to the top of Tuckermans ravine and skied it a few times , hiked back out and drove home.. to be younger again.. . I can still remember the look on the face of the moose i came across on the trail. I think the skis sticking up over my head confused her. I wasnt sure if she was going to run me over or not..

Pistol permit application
ncountry replied to Northcountryman's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
A friend of mine had the same issue. His permit was approved without any issues. Make sure it is noted on your application . I guess it depends. -
I'm sure the guys will tell you if you are going to explore the river alot ,charts are a must. Electronic or paper. Oh and dont forget to stay on our side of the river or get a Canadian license. The river is different than many bodies of water. It can go from 100' of depth to 1' Instantly.

What's the coldest temperature you can remember hunting in
ncountry replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
I'm not sure exactly. It's been well below zero a few times. The coldest I have ever been was the 1st week of December one year. I sat in my treestand for a morning hunt the wind was really blowing. I toughed it out for 2 hours. About 1 1/2 more than I should have..lol.. I was barely able to get out of my stand because I was so stiff, numb ,and cold.. After hitting the ground I tucked my rifle under my arm, stuck my hands in my pocket, and started jogging towards the rd. About a 100yds in I stubbed my tow and of course with my hands in my pocket i took a headplant into the snow.. Funny now. Not so much at the time. -
I love to hunt the furthest spot I can find. That is usually where you would find me hunting. It is funny though , all the hunters seem to read the same book on where to hunt.. I cannot say how many times I have picked out the perfect pinch point/ funnel miles in only to find a stand already there. Dam! That was a waste of excersize..Took my stand for a walk again.. Lol In recent years I have started to hunt those spots just off the rd or parking lot more. The ones that I walked by and thought to myself" I oughta sit here." . I assume we have all done it. How many times have you come back out and seen the fresh tracks in The snow or mud? The best spots are thick and or wet and people just walk around on their way to the deer "hot spot" . I am not sure if I have not been just as successful hunting this way... Deer, if anything, are lazy (efficient). On average they aren't that far from the food source. A small thick patch can hold a pile of does. And even if that buck doesn't live there , when the rut hits he will be around. Imho ..it is just as , or more, important to pattern the people than the deer.

Ditto.. me too!

Using a monofiliment backer is a great idea too. When I 1st darted using it years ago I had just bought a new baitcaster . I couldnt get the drag to hold. I tore the reel apar multiple time trying to figure out the problem. No matter what it wouldn't work. I sat the the reel on the shelf for a few years until I heard someone mention that braided lines have a tendency to not grip the spool..Duh. .. sure enough that was the problem..lol
