That sounds fantastic . Run with it !!

Looks like everyone has it covered. Mistakes happen. I tried to quit bow hunting more than once because I lost deer... The love of the sport made me go back out and try again... Sounds like you did more than many would to recover the deer...I think it is a good sign of respect for the animal to feel bad at least for a little bit.life and death is the way of the wild.. You cannot get a much better deer cartridge than the .308..you just need to find the right bullet . I went from a .308 to a 300 win mag.. the only thing it does is kick a lot more and shorten their run by 30yds... I bought it so it would perform as good as the .308 does at 50yds, at 300yds. I havnt shot one over 150yds since ..

I had a hard time finding specs. Is it illegal because it's narrower than 17" limb tip to limb tip uncocked?
-
Looks like a pretty good hole.. how is the performance at longer ranges?

To each his own.. that is what makes the world go around.. ; ) I on the other hand love a bullet that fragments . I have shot light for cartridge bullets for 30 years.. 125g in .308 and 150gr. In 300 win mag. Bullet rarely exit but deer are pretty easy to find when they fall down on the spot, or on the rare occasion I gut shoot one 50yds away I always felt that if my gun produces 3500 ft/pounds i want the deer to have it all. Not pass through with enough energy to kill another deer. (Seen it done by accident).

I wouldn't bother with the water.. just empty the gas out and you are good to go. The tiny amount of gas left will not affect anything that burns kerosene... If you are still worried , leave the top off the can after emptying it. The remnants left will evaporate..

Good of you to join us.. I live in north ,central St Lawrence county.. what part of the county is your camp?

I know some locals who might quit their jobs at a $ 1000 bounty .Lol.. I sometimes wonder if they don't have a bigger impact than we think. I know of some local areas that have very little to no hunters. 1000s of acres of farm land and not hardly a deer to be found.. There should be herds of deer seen in these fields, especialy at night.. it's been like this for 30 years.. It never makes any sense to me. Something is keeping the deer population down?
-
Lol.. There definitely are a lot of coyote in the northern zone. If you get into the hills and out of farm country and cover any ground during late season with snow on the ground you will cross more coyote tracks than deer by far. Lavender is my perfume of choice.. ; )

Welcome aboard .

Coyote?

Both sides of the rd? I had heard that they just put a safety zone roughly 500' around the house and cabins and down to the creek.

With a quick glance I say 2.5.. but im leaning towards 3.5.. Then again , I am terrible at aging deer. If he weighed over 160 i say 3.5....lol

I have taken a few stalking. One of my most memorable hunts was a stalk on a 6 point .maybe my 2nd or 3rd year archery hunting. He was in the middle of a meadow. Instead of having a time walls the old timers piled the stones in a dozen different mounds scattered across the field.. it took me an hour to go from behind one like to another in my sock feet. Another what seemed like an hour to crawl across the last 50 yds in plain sight of the deer. Finally I was within 20yds. I pulled up, and shot 10' over his back. Turns out my old sight had loosened up and dropped down as far as it would go....lol

I grew up burning wood. And in recent years converted to coal.. never going back.. And I just told the gf to turn up her electric blanket ,it's too early to fire up the stove .I mean we just closed down camp and took the boat out of the water yesterday.....lol.

100% I run the construction side of a small company and it is close to impossible to find skilled help. Heck I would be happy with an intelligent 20 yr old kid who knows how to work and was willing to learn.. . Every business owner I talk to has the same problem.
