  1. Never hunted MA. I lived in the NW corner of CT 30 years ago.. Right on the Border. Seems like there there ought to be some nice bucks.. I was fresh out of school and didnt deer hunt yet. I remember nobody hunting and deer everywhere.
  2. I Looked back through recent years pics. 11/10,11/17, 11/16,11/9,11/3. Jury is still out this year.. Every one but the 11/9 was cruising through alone. Except for 1 shot feeding under an apple tree in the evening the others were all between 10am and noon.
  3. I always liked the sound of this.. never tried it .
  4. Also. When do you know when to slow down and start paying more attention? Or r u so good that you dont and just shoot them when they take off..
  5. Great info! I have always said that the single biggest thing a person could do to improve their odds was to be excellent at " jump shooting" a deer.. when I spent more time in the big woods I had many opportunities on bucks within 50 yds that jumped and ran. 95+% of the time I never even fired a bullet. I am an excellent still target shot, but not so much on a moving target. Shotgun or rifle.Maybe 1 day I will put the time in to practice . on that note... How do you practice this?
  6. Same here... I have passed on 4 small bucks now.. The lack of a kill is all on me. I have enjoyed my time in the woods. The number of deer sightings vs time in the woods is really poor.. needless to say my standards have went way down. I have never gone without venison, we will see what the next few weekends bring..
  7. All right. Move over! I will sit for a little bit, just a little bit..
  8. Just returned from our annual 2 weeks.. Worst year yet for our 4 person group. Two 8 pointers and a spike. Lack of does was not due to a lack of trying. Lol. We just couldn't get on any .. I had a few opportunities on 1 1/2 year old bucks with my bow , but nothing I wanted. Any chances to shoot does for me were all on the bottoms and I didnt feel like the work vs reward equaled out..lol. I will do my best to shoot something up here on the flat farmland for food... All in all we had a lot of fun . I really enjoy the park , and look forward to sitting along the river every year. This year it was a little more difficult ,with the snow, to get back out of a few of the spots I like to hunt. Getting down was the easy part.. ha.ha.. It's funny, I'm a expert level skier but standing at the top of some of these slopes w/a pack and treestand on your pack seems a lot more daunting..;)
  9. Incredible day! Congratulations to all !
  10. So true. You take everything you read about thermals, terrain, woods type, etc. 9 times out of 10 it seems like there is a stand there. I have started to pay more attention to those thick spots just off the rd that everybody walks around.
  11. Nice! You got it done pretty quick . Now you can scout for me.. ;). Ha ha
  12. Not sure how to total this. Ha ha. A close friend is building a gas station/convenience. He has looked at newer (1-2 YEARS OLD) dispensees and canopies. Of course in NY we need engineered plans. Everybody he has talked too insists on using new equipment . To the tune of $100000+ for a decent size set-up. It's not rocket science I'm sure we can tear down and put together a used system. Anybody with any experience with this or suggestions on companies to contact?
  13. Yup, me too. Unless they smell you they rarely bust you if you are a statue. . I dont think I have it anymore, but I have a video of 5 deer that walked up to my boots and sniffed them . There was nothing between us . I was just sitting on the ground with my back against a tree. With blue Jeans on too.lol. they didnt spook until o es curiosity got the better of him and he circled around the tree. I didnt turn and look but it sounded like he was a foot from my ear when he blew out of their.
  14. That's all yucky!;) On a more serious note. Lots of good advise above.. In the past I have always sliced everything up before freezing. The last bunch of years I have been freezing it in chunks. This give me more options. Slices real easy ,when partially thawed if you want or leave as roasts . I usually save the couple of nice slices off the front shoulder blades. And I'm always amazed at the amount of meat that comes off a deer's neck, especially a decent sized buck .
  15. We will be in C cabins from the 6th through 20th. Getting excited.. I'm sure we have met or at least passed each other on the rd..
  16. 10th is my favorite day also.. I bet over 50% of my 2 1/2 year or older bucks were killed on that day..
  17. Dang! I want to hunt there..Nice collection of bucks!!
  18. Cool buck.. I love those " brow ?" tines!!
  19. Haven't read the entire thread yet...but...... holy crap batman. If you aren't smart enough to walk carefully over this area than you shouldn't be out walking without a handholder.. Take some personal responsibility!.wow. I dont want to even get started..lol Edit.. " you" as a generalization
  20. Grampy, I had a similar situation with the rage (actually the cheap Chinese version)hypodermic broadhead with the red collars for xbows. We were curious and shot them at our foam deer target and the didnt open initially. So we put some fabric over it and they wouldn't consistently open. We were just about to give up on them. It just so happened that I had a fresh deer hide from a recent kill. We draped that over the target and they opened everytime.. We have used them with success ever since.
