  1. Looks like you may be right.... For now. anyways. http://www.rbj.net/article.asp?aID=199968
  2. From what I am hearing they seem like great bows. And made right here in NY.
  3. For the last few weekends, I keep on telling the kid it's probably our last time (at our local volunteer run area with no snowmaking). Then it snows again..I guess we are going again this weekend. Up to 16" predicted..I will miss the skiing , but I'm ready for spring!
  4. Hey ! I want in on this. I know where there are a few huge doe living..lol
  5. Love this idea. It seems to get shot down by the pro xbow guys every time.
  6. That's awesome! Archery is an great sport. As long as you shoot at different spots you can shoot hundreds if not thousands of tines at little cost. One advantage over firearms. And once you start archery hunting,esp..successfully , you will not believe how much more intense/ fun it is..
  7. Ha.. Here is a topic we can 100% agree on...
  8. I do not agree that a loop changes MY dl.......for me, I shortened my bows dl.. I will agree to disagree though...lol
  9. Slow down, read what you just wrote.99% of it is true and written in archery 101. Until you get to the spot where you say that our hand will have to move to accommodate a loop. Our hand is connected to the rest of our body..If someone already had the "perfect" form, why would he change it to accomodate a loop?
  10. Many of the backtension release guys prefer a cable stop bow over one with limb stops. I prefer the limb stops also. Never trusted myself with a backtension release while hunting.
  11. ..I know right.. And orion just keeps poking to keep himself entertained..lol
  12. Seems simple to me.. I close my eyes draw my bow(27.75" dl) back to my anchor point. feels perfect Close my eyes you take my 1/2" d loop off and I draw back.Suddenly ,not so perfect.I need a bow with a 1/2"longer dl I have to agree that at no point does my draw length get longer or shorter but my bows dl needs to. Now for some.. the position of the string on their nose and or face take precedent over all else for their anchor. These people would have to adjust their hand position to accommodate, not their bow. If we exaggerate a little bit.. We could add a 4"loop to a bow. no doubt we would have to change bows draw length then.
  13. Yeap..As long as you are using proper stance and form. This is why I don't 100% agree with not changing dl of bow when adding d loop. I guess it depends on how set one is in their anchor point. For me, I have a set anchor point where I put my hand every time. This maintains the proper body positioning(well, as good as I can do anyway).lol..Where the string is depends on the bow axle to axle to axle length changes this dynamic. I wouldn't dream of changing it to for a change in equipment.
  14. Christ! I came close to spitting out my coffee all over the monitor ..lol.
  15. I just didn't want a newbie to get the wrong info.Especially something where one could get hurt or ruin $100s of equipment. Definitely not wanting to start an argument. We have enough things to argue about where we (hny) have differing opinions.lol
  16. Culver...The average bow is 1 3/4" from throat of hand grip to front edge of bow. This is the standard AMO method of measuring dl . Some info in this article. http://www.huntersfriend.com/carbon_arrows/hunting_arrows_selection_guide_chapter_1.htm db .. it is a fact that many of today's bows will lock up if the stops are removed . In some bows, a person can adjust stops too far back and result in a locked up bow( this is more common in a bow with a rotating mod and a longer stop slot to accommodate different draw lengths.
  17. Hyjack!! I forgot what the original question was... For the record there are a quite a few bows without separate draw stops . z7 for example.. Many of the binary cam bows will lock up without draw stops installed. Standing there with the bow at full draw hollering for help so someone could give the cams a nudge to come back around,,lol I could have set the bow down and walked away.. Hopefully the op found a knowledgeable bow shop(few and far between.imo). I believe the Most important things for a beginning Archer are 1. quality bow (new or used) My shooting improved significantly when I move from an old used $100 pse to a "pro level" bow .The bows built in the last 5 years are significantly easier to shoot then many of the older ones., 2.proper # (most people pull too much #) being strong and dumb I still only shoot a 65# bow 3. proper draw length (most people have a bow that is too long for them) I was sold a 29" and a30" draw bows years ago before I learned my proper length now it is 27.5"
  18. Agree with the above. VT are not bad strings but strings by some of these other guys are better. imo And usually for a comparable price and sometimes cheaper. Breathn (Johns customs) made my last set. Work of art with zero peep rotation or serving separation even in previous trouble spots.
  19. We have a river up here with a couple cable crossings over the river a solid 20 + yds. 1 cable about 4' above the water to avoid spring floods and the other about 4-5' above that one. walk the one and use the other for a guide. We used these for years.. Gets a little tricky when the tension goes out though after a few years ....lol

    Buck Fever

LOL.. That was me.. I had only been archery hunting for a few years. Sitting on the ground next to a large cedar tree a huge~150" buck(at least up here in the land of spikes and 4 points) comes in, just the other side of the tree and stops.Maybe 10-15' away..My heart was racing and I was shaking before I even started to pull my bow back..He is just standing there for what seems like forever.. He only had 3-4 steps, tops, to go before he was in the open. As I drew my bow back, as slow as I could so he didn't see me move, my arrow was rattling on my rest.To me it sounded like a jake brake, but he never spooked. As I am waiting for him to step forward he turns and walks nonchalantly away with the tree between us. Until I started hunting downstate he was the largest buck I had ever seen .. To this day I have never had a buck that close again.
  21. If you maintain the same anchor point and add a 1/2" loop you need to have a bow with a 1/2" shorter draw....
  22. I do not like it , but I guess I don't have to. There is no 100% locked in stone distance that is acceptable by all. If someone is comfortable and or can live with the results of a long shot that is their prerogative. There are those out there that are more capable of killing deer at 70yds than the rest of us are at 20 . There is no doubt a lot better odds at closer distances though. I think many of us ought to take advantage of the experiences of hunters that have killed many deer successfully. Shooting a deer is totally different from shooting a target for most of us. I can shoot the ##%^ out of a target at 50 yds. I have missed more than I would like to admit(and wounded a few) at 10-30 yds. It took me 5-10 years of archery hunting before my skills or odds were even close to gun hunting.
  23. Come on! Where are the pictures..Lol Sounds like a blast. That is one fish (at least in the waters I fish) I have never caught.
