  1. I worked for a few years as a feller. During the winter the deer would only be a few minutes behind me..lol.. they loved the skidder trails and paths we made through the deep snow..
  2. That's awesome.. I can remember 1 winter when a crazy neighbor, after getting fed up with the " nosey" building inspector, drove over to his house and plowed the inspectors garage full of snow...
  3. LOl. I'm with you.. I only do that to someone when they have been riding my @$$ and won't pass.
  4. Picture and caption is fine amongst friends,if that is what they like. Not my style. Not fit for public viewing though .imo.. Definitely makes us hunters look bad.
  5. I am not a fan of the one buck rule. As a general rule I shoot 1 buck a year anyway and then wait for bullwinkle. ..Rarely does BW come by, so most years I only shoot 1 buck anyway.lol... Especially up here with no dmps . I would like to see better /increased penalties for not following the existing rules. I think this alone in many areas would make a difference. Maybe 1 buck tag and an additional AR buck tag 4 point/side or better?
  6. Congrats to your friend. That is a beaut !
  7. I am voting for chucacabra? or pelvic bone
  8. I had a little honey hole . It produced around 1/2 dozen nice bucks 7-10 point 2 1/2-3 1/2 year old bucks over the coarse of 6 years. It was in an overlooked corner of a heavily hunted piece of property. I could see the road 100yds and the barns less than 200yds away. Only catch was the water was 2' deep. Nobody stepped foot in this area including me until a certain date in Nov. Within 2 hours of daylight a doe would drag a shooter though... lol. It was ridiculous how consistent it was. I have not been able to figure it out for the past 6 years or so.Cannot find the "magic" day or time.. I always wondered if it was the same doe that came into heat at the same time every year that the bucks were stuck too? And she finally died. By the way..DH how has your folks addition holding up?
  9. Probably 3, 5, and 6.. lol... Many a time I have sat in my stand and had an easy shot opportunity, and let the deer pass . Those days, it happened to be more enjoyable to just sit there and watch then shoot and have to start working...
  10. Any season I get to go out and sit in the woods and wander the hills for hours on end is good. I may complain at time times of dwindling deer #s or lack of buck sightings. I always seem to have enough venison in the freezer though. My only real complaint is that work gets in the way of spending the whole season in the woods ..lol ! I am already starting to feel a little sad that I have to wait another 9+ months to go again after this weekend.
  11. Defensive!, defensive!.lol.. Sorry for putting words in your mouth.Sometimes hard to tell someones intent over the internet...defensive I was... As you say these are just my observations the areas I hunt, they do not hold to be true across the board..hopefully no harm no foul...
  12. Yeah, but that is cheating Your 3 shot group touching each other is still going to be an 1 1/2"...lol
  13. There was a difference this year in the areas that i hunt. How many bachelor groups do you see when the rut is in full swing? Normally not many. More chances than not, I saw groups of bucks in early Nov. not individuals chasing or roaming. There were some bucks seen by our group roaming or chasing doe but those sightings were a lot less than normal. To hint that some peoples season were poorer due to the fact that they did not get aggressive , change up their hunting, or use the knowledge of their property is like telling me my deer herd pop.. is great up here while you are 200 miles away. and never stepped foot in my woods...(wink, wink)
  14. Lol.. Skippy eh? You are 100% right. Most shotguns are more than capable of killing deer at 100 yds some even longer distances. Also agree that it is the person operating the weapon. I have seen quite a few shotguns that didn't group much better than a paper plate either(maybe a little exaggerated). Did the tradition of unloading a shotgun on deer come from their inherent inaccuracies in the past? I am not sure but I have a feeling it may have.A Shotgun hits a deer hard at 100 yds or less so that is not the problem. Or is it the fact that there is lot more non country folk shooting guns that did not grow up around guns ?
  15. Worst for me, as far as bucks go..1st year in all my years of hunting that I will not have shot a buck..Unless i Luck out tonight or next weekend..You never know! Headed out back now!...
  16. Congratulations! To you both...
  17. Imo, much of the difference between the northern zone and the southern zone is the traditional weapon used we in the northern zone have been brought up with a very accurate weapon where the 1st shot is the only shot ever needed? Most of the southern zone was shotgun only ,not near as accurate of a weapon. In any of my time spent in the southern zone it is more common than not to hear a volley of shots ..Up here ,more times than not it is a single shot . I am sure there are other contributing factors too. I even see us northerners when handed a shotgun revert to the same practice . Heck, if I am shooting a shotgun it is usually at geese or ducks and the gun gets emptied.. I wonder if those that hunt in the newly opened rifle areas have seen any change or if is cultural now?
  18. One decision is made to make the recovery of the animal more likely. The option of quickly ending their suffering is not there.
  19. It is surprising the # of good cuts that come from a deer including the 2 on each shoulder either side of that ridge on the shoulder blade. Funny ,I was just watching a news program and this chef was getting all this credit for discovering a new cut of meat on a beaf... It was just that, the 2 steaks on the shoulder blade...We hunters have known of these for years..lol
  20. Not sure about jerky, I ussualy use ground meat. The " football" makes a great roast and surprisingly good steaks.
