  1. I,m thinking a crossbow would be the just the ticket for turkeys.
  2. Cough...cough.. hmmm.. we have a weeaner ! I have been down the middle on the subject from the start, but nothing makes me want to shake hands and have a discussion with " fellow" hunters like a pompous winner..lol
  3. My thoughts as well.. While the government oversteps it's bounds often, this does not seem like such a case. We are too populated of a country now to have the opportunity to use our lands as we personally see fit without regulations. I am sure there are other farmers in the same area that would love to pasture their cattle for free, but are playing by the rules.
  4. I always buy an archery and ml license so I receive either sex tag and an antlerless tag. Maybe if you buy only a ml license you only get an antlerless tag? idk
  5. The only thing I would change now(in the Nzone) is pushing back our firearm season another week or 2 and lengthening the xbow season from 3 days before ml to 10 days before. Btw ,Bubba did you sell me an anti safe act sign in Massena the other day?
  6. I love these threads!! They're hard to stay out of.lol I have said it before, but the only truly good thing for our sport would be a separate xbow season........., Period. I am all for allowing those with injuries to use xbows during the archery season. Those of us who live to see what hunting is like 20-30+ years from now will remember the days of compounds with nostalgia(much like traditional gear now) To me it is similar to what happened in the northern zone with mzl season. Before very few carried a mzl into the woods to get a jump on deer season.(inaccuracy ,unreliability, unfamiliarity) Rules changed to allow scoped mzl and the popularitiy of inlines, exploded .Everybody that hunted had a muzzleloader and was in the woods a week earlier than normal. Now if you wait for the opening week of rifle , you missed the boat the deer no the gig is up season has been on for a week. The increase in mzl hunters was NOT an increase in hunters like we would like to see but the same hunters with a different weapon getting out early. How many un-scoped traditional mzls do you see in the woods now? I realize none of this matters in our word of, us against them, all or nothing , winner take all, I'm 100% right and you are wrong. Instead of a compromise, It looks to be just a matter of time before xbows will take over the archery season. Old timers will hold on to the tradition for awhile but it's just a matter of time. No real winners in the long run. ps..I am 100% right....lol
  7. Great news !! As of 4/1/2030 laser guided, heat seeking bullets fired from the hip are legal in all hunting seasons. As we all know this technology has been around for decades. Finally we can use it in our great hunting pastime. This opens up hunting to all , no need to practice . We are all beneficiaries of the new ruling. Finally we have the answer to our long declining hunter numbers, bringing in the old and young alike. As always do not forget to register your weapon with all proper authorities.. All Village, town, city, county state, federal, and world organizations.
  8. Lol...You guys are all downstaters to me..
  9. The last few we did for homes we built ran close to $1500-$2000 material. Tank ,chambers, pipe, fill,etc..lucky for us we had prints stamped for under a $500.00.
  10. St68, I consider myself a hunter, not a bowhunter specifically. Yet your comments on bowhunters automatically "ruffle my feathers"..lol..Out of all of my bowhuntiing friends none fit your description.
  11. LOL... I have a high school diploma, a couple of semesters of college, and 25 years of experience building and remodeling homes. While I excelled at calculus I struggled with English language subjects..Thank you very much....Are we a little judgmental?
  12. While imho the originol post was inaccurite and and unifermed, pickin on sumone for there sentence structure and prununiatision is rude and uncalled fer,not everybobody did well at or finished schhool for various reasons.
  13. Sounds like a fantastic hunt! Thank god for snow.. Deer are amazingly strong.
  14. Myself personally , I have 0 interest in a high fenced hunt. Before they closed up shop , I did enjoy going for a short little drive to view some of the monsters that were inside a fenced operation not far from me.If that is someone's idea of a hunt , so be it. It is still 100s of times closer to a real hunt than buying burger at the grocery. They are the ones missing out on the real deal not us.
  15. I need a link. I think I may have missed it?.... I like a good deer story.
  16. I dought one would be able to use archery tags during firearm. I expect you would have to use whatever tags are applicable to the season you are hunting in.
  17. Sounds like a good compromise. Us anti's still get some "quiet" time in the woods and the crossbow guys still can get a jump on firearm season.
  18. One difference from the farmland deer that I hunt is that they seem to like hills and ridges sometimes more than the swamps. I don't hunt the mountainous part of the ADKs, but the northern foothills sections. Not skylined , but just over the edge. If I am hunting around home I am usually set up next to or in a swamp that's where all the nice bucks are. When I started hunting the "big woods" I did the same. It worked , but after a few years I discovered that I was walking over the better spots.
  19. Yeap ..same thing except I pop or break the spine by hand..
  20. I have slacked off on the bullhead fishing lately.. Might have to catch a pail or 2 this spring.. We always tried going around April 15(fils birthday). There have been a few years where all of our spots were iced in. I am afraid this year may be another. Easiest way to clean bullhead requires nothing but a knife. Slice across the back towards head behind the fin until you hit bone. Slice skin along backbone to tail.. Hang on to head in one hand body in the other and bend until the backbone breaks( usually a pop and a little splatter away from you ,make sure a buddy is standing there.lol). Reach in with thumb and grab backbone and pull the meat right out of the skin. rinse and throw in bowl. Repeat. I can still remember when a classmate demonstrated this method in our 8th grade class for a presentation..LOL.. The girls were NOT impressed especially the ones in the front row. This works great until you start catching the 12" plus ones, they are a little harder on the fingers.
