  1. I just plugged a few #s in 180 gr .30 caliber bullet with a bc of .400 @ 3400fps muzzle velocity. zero at 290 yds 3" high at 200 5 mph cross wind would be 7.5" of drift would drop 16.5" at 455 yds A lucky heart shot
  2. My 1st 10 deer or so I shot in the neck . At that time I did a lot of reloading and shooting and had no fears of missing the spot. Nowadays I probably shoot a gun 20-50 shots a year, I aim behind the shoulder. Nice big target. Unless I am carrying my ml and then I prefer on the shoulder.
  3. In the past I was not a fan of the NRA. I always felt that they are alarmists and take our cause to the extreme. A little common sense and moderation would seem to soften our image . Over the years, after following politics, my views have changed. Unfortunately in today's politics there is no place for a moderate. Oh .. ok you you agree with this... then we will push for the next restriction... Fight ,fight fight for every little thing, reasonable or not and hope we meet in the middle.
  4. I got to ski my favorite childhood ski area this past weekend. Big Tupper opened for the 1st time in 2 years this past weekend. It was shuttered for around ten years . A local group of volunteers are running it at the moment .A real bare bone operation right now, but an awesome small mountain if someone can get it going again..
  5. I still use a 50+ year old Stanley thermos (grandfathers). Coffee is still warm/hot, if there is any left when I get back to camp in the afternoon.
  6. My encore with 300 win mag barrel shoots right around 1" groups @ 100 yds with 150 gr Remington core lock factory ammo. 2" groups with my muzzleloader barrel on.
  7. I on occasion drink too much beer and eat too many eggs boiled in the sap..yumm.. Won't be long now..
  8. Fil and I have around 100 buckets we hang , we usually make 20-30 gallons . I personally use a gallon a year and will sometimes share another with the wife and kid..mmmmmm..lol
  9. Is that why they are closing down part of the local plant and laying off 300+workers?
  10. Most of us up here are in the same boat. 2000 was right around the peak of our deer population. A little better down in the farmlands, but over all we probably have 10 -25% of the deer that we had in 2000.. Of course many will say this is purely anecdotal.. Contributing factors are the harvest of too many does. Imho.... Due to the increase in muzzleloader hunters(inlines and scopes greatly increase hunter #s) capable of shooting does, introduction or increase in dmps( I do not remember any being available up here much before the late 90s), hunter education to the fact that it is ok to shoot does(I remember when no one would shoot doe, 3 bucks were ok but don't shoot a doe), Destroy permits on the farmland wiped out herds(legally and illegally)
  11. Hunted a few times at Fire Falls... Fished many times, 100+ times ..lol Some of the best bass fishing around if you put forth the effort to get on to some of those lakes..
  12. Oh yeah .. The elevation will make us flatlanders huff and puff for the 1st week ...lol... We skied Berthoud Pass just before it closed a couple hours south of Estes park..Base elevation was 11,000'+..We took a "break " one day and wandered some hidden mountain valleys not far from the pass... We saw acres of young aspen with the bark stripped off by the elk. Have always wanted to go back with a bow and or rifle and hunt the elk.
  13. Sounds fun! I've never been west to hunt but drove out to BC and Colorado to ski. I can remember pronghorn herds everywhere on the high plateaus of Montana.
  14. The 1st part of what you said is exactly why I would rather see xbows in their own season. We have lost enough hunting traditions.
  15. Even walking through the driveway can be hazardous in the spring... lol...We live a ways off the rd and have yet to gravel the drive..1 month out of the year we have to walk..
  16. I doubt it. I know in the area that I took the pictures it is not.
  17. #@$%53 ..###...you talking to me bub?
  18. I have a quiver mounted on mine..I believe that I used 1/2" spacers.
  19. I had this afternoon off, so went on walkabout.. Everything around here is frozen like a rock(a very slippery one)....So I probably covered 4-5 miles in a local WMA. It's funny that we were talking about stands on public land. I ran across 4 or at least remnants ..lol. Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk
