  1. Not on a shotgun, the 500 is a good gun and will last a long time, I think older Remington are great but new ones seem to lost quality
  2. this is amazing sale , got shirt pants parka and reversable coverall for 90.00
  3. Second looks like a big 6pt, sorry you can't shoot him need 4 pts to a side... and that is the problem with antler restrictions..... I agree old buck on the decline, that would be my 1st choice between the two, the first looks like a good 3 year old.
  4. Interesting article, would also be used in a reason against shooting large antlered deer. http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-human-superpredator-unique-predator-carnivore-fishing-hunting-unsustainable-20150820-story.html
  5. Nys has a law that keeps hunters from suing landowners..
  6. Though you may have food, the cover keeps maturing, and your neighbors tired of seeing your pics of all the bucks decided to put in their own food plots and fertilize more than you. Lots of possibilities, I could car less about summer pics ,let me se them in sept. ....
  7. I don't think cash is a big deal I drive to deleware.didnt county and hunted turkey for years, saw birds in a field tried tonstop.and ask owner and they weren't home went across street to neighbor and inquire if owner was maybe there, was told no he had day job but why was I looking for him, Told the neighbor in saw a flock of turkey by the road and saw it was posted thought I'd ask if I could go after them, (they were 50 yards off road) He looked at me and asked where I was from I said buffalo and he asked that's a long way to come hunt turkey! He then said the was a flock out behind barn an my friend and I were welcome to go after them, we looked behind barn and there were 10 gobblers, 10 minutes later we knocked o n the farmers door each holding a bird and expressed out thanks, handed him 20 bucks for his kindness, which he gave back and said his farm was leased to hunt deer but if we want to come back and hunt turkey we were more then welcome, 10 years we hunted there and he was asked to lease it for turkey as well, he did, but kept the first 2 days of season for us no charge! He introduced us to his son and we got.invited for deer as well, we declined and simply hunt turkey there for a few more years till my turkey hunting companion passed. A heartfelt thank you and a Christmas card was all that ever was exchanged.
  8. Pretty good article on asking for and how to ask,https://www.qdma.com/articles/10-tips-on-asking-for-permission-to-hunt
  9. I would get a hang on and a good ladder system, ladder are big clunky, and you need 2 people to set them up and once up you don't move them as it is a pain in the ass. That really limits you when hunting when the deer are crossing just out of range as with a hanger you can move in less than 30 minutes, I wouldn't buy a ground blind but would use natural materials or cheap materials to build them in proven locations, (artificial christmas trees that are tossed out make great ground blinds and last for years.)
  10. A good time and try or learn spear throwing!!, and flint knapping!!
  11. You can get them to shock gobble in fall same as spring on roost and you may here Jakes gobbling all day, as well as fighting purrs
  12. That oak will prolly resprout from roots/ stump
  13. Hey they are still around!! And a big sale check it out!
  14. You and multiple break birds as well if they split in 2 groups and fly follow one and try to break it again a lot of young birds will fly 50 to 100 yards and roast in tree. If it's a good size group they will stay together, a secondary break can yeild a bigger multi directional scatter,
  15. Just stay above the ridge and listen for them below, easier to go down hill, even if you don't get a perfect scatter just move in a direction some of the birds went 75 to 100 yards sit for a few minutes and call, you'll have a blast!
  16. Depends, in summer I carry a .22 lever action winchester rifle, fall I carry a m1 carbine that is chambered in 9mm. If I'm checking cameras,or a .22 hand gun checking traps., if grouse is in season I carry a single 12 GA h&r . Deer season my 45/70 govmarlin guide gun., after season either the 12 ga,till end of feb or m1 carbine till end of coyote season.
  17. Your missing out a scattered flock fills the woods with turkey calls for hours, my nephews are getting old enough to become the runners if my friend dog isn't available, a whole camp.ca n go to a break up spot for hours and everyone can call in a bird!!#
  18. Your new , you may grow out of it or you may not. There are many stages of a hunter and you may never reach them all, just do not put so much pressure on yourself to get a trophy you lose the enjoyment of the hunt. I had to fill every tag I had and the doe tags (party permits) when i started. Now I don't care if I get a deer or not, no pressure lots of fun.
