Pheasant - Invasive Species or Valuable Gamebird?
G-Man replied to mike rossi's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
The habitat and crop harvest methods in use today, do not lend themselves to a sustainable population of wild pheasant. Personally I would.like to habitat worked on and identified ad birds released to repopulate with no hunting, the cost of put and take imo is very high per bird for the few hunters there are. I rather the monies go into game law enforcement.- 16 replies

Hunt off the ground! One stand not movable will be burned out quick, you have no option for wrong wind, food pattern changes, rutting changes, I have 40 plus stands ,and a climber, and still hunt off the ground if it calls for it. what will you do if you have an ice storm and stand is glazed over?

My family.home in lancaster is loaded with deer but all private small acreages, I allowed 2 friends to hunt with bow with agreement they shoot doe first. 1 had taken 5 doe in 3 years and a nice 130 Inch buck a few minutes after filling a doe tag. The other has shot only buck for 2 years and no longer hunts there. The deer eat the shrubs around the house and the trees in the orchard. The successful doe hunting friend even hunt gun season with bow on the small 5 acre piece. Its.close to his house and he very appreciative. If you ever get a place to hunt in the suburbs do what the owner requests. It opens up more property as 2 of the neighbors. Now let him hunt their 5 acres as well, e even spends the extra $ to buy more doe tags as they are always available.

Wind Energy Causes More Harm Than Good
G-Man replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I agree wind farm in wny are a waste of taxpayer money, with all the subsides they could of added 2 generators ot Robert Moses, or built another hydroplant and powered 1/2 a state. -
Nice, I've made knife handles from antler as well as drawer pulls, and yes it does stink sanding and shaping them

Well mine is from the 90's as well, aimpoint. Can't beat them for shotgun slug hunting, or for a turkey gun.

So Bennet Beach has been closed more than open do to contamination, testing is done by erie county department of health, the question Is where is the dec tracking down the source of it it's in lake erie effects the fish, if it was a buisness you know they would be all over them for fines and restitution to fix the problem. This had been going on for several years and it's known over flow from sewer lines in hamburg. Why aren't they going after the municipality/ies responsible! !!???

I'm all for an early muzzleloader season even anterless only , I'm a bigger fan for split season, an early gun 5 to 7 days and then a later gun 2 weeks, bow can run continously the whole time, I've heard the argument of spooked deer and making it harder on bow hunters, heck they admit they only take 15% of total take, more is needed so why cater to a minority group for longer season, when a second shorter season will accomplish the goal of reducing the herd, perhaps a long seperate bow season is possible with full inclusion of crossbow (I especially like the lie of dec wanting it in muzzleloader, their position has always been for full inclusion in bow,it's the legislation that placed it there in part due to nyb) changes are coming for sure, but I am sick of hearing older hunters not being to be able to hunt late gun season due to health concerns, so they are forced to buy archey/crossbow to hunt in the better weather many cannot due to financial constraints. Why not a 5 or 7 day gun hunt n sept or oct. Let the older participants do a job archers are unwilling or un able to do. (Personally I feel they are unwilling as if I had unlimited doe tags in bow I could kill a deer about every 3 days with a bow no doubt in my mind)

Very good and family oriented event, they will have your kid throwing spears in no time! As well as making sharp little flakes of stone to step on in the yard. All kidding aside the ,demonstrations and reenactments are well worth going, as well as learning some Knapping which comes in handy when you leave a knife at home and you need to gut your deer (ice done it twice, not with a full knife but a few flakes are sharp enough to get field dressing done.)

Yes , hope one day to hunt with one, perhaps during bow, but I'm sure nyb would fight that tooth and nail, some crazy guy throwing spears at their deer...

unfortunately that has become the standard of all decisions lately the smaller the group the louder the voice they have it. Seems, everyone evolves as a hunter, it takes time and accumulated knowledge, unfortunately the media of today shows antler crazed 20 and 30 somethings on huge leases or private land holding shooting monsters with 1 or two hunters per square mile. When the reality in new York is 30 acre parcels being average and 50 or more acres making you a land barron. Hunter densities are 20 higher than the hunts you see on tv. Big bucks get big by being smart, ar's in a high hunter density will only high grade the herd in a short amount of time, and we WILL be over run with giant 4pts and 6pt as they will be left as all your best 8pt and 10 pts are shot as 2 year-olds if not as yearlings. if the state wants to implement ar's on all Stateline that's fine, I know for the 8 grand plus I pay for my recreational land they better give me a tax break as I would not be able to supplement my meat if I was restricted in what I shot. as for tomorow trophy today, if all you shot was 130 in plus is that a trophy? Or will that be the average and now you require more to make it a trophy, perhaps 170 in , where does it stop? I know many new hunters who are greatly impressed with their 1st trophy spike, or 4 pt, a trophy is different to many people, if you want a "book" buck go buy one, and don't give the response well kids and elderly can shoot what they want, what about the spouse that is in their thirties who decides to take up the sport to spend more time with their significant other? The Co worker who hears. You talk about hunting all the time that wants to give it a try? If a big buck is what you want pass up all the deer you want and wait for one, they are out there . I find more big buck skulls that die of old age or were never seen more than 1 or 2x in daylight, I hope your hunting skills are up to the challenge, older deer bucks and doe can avoid a hunter with uncanny ability, especially in pressured areas. Perhaps a trip to Canada or mid west where you may be the only hunter a deer as seen in years will help your mad hunting skills, myself I'll take what I can and if I get a nice one every few years or 1 a decade I'll appreciate it more for the rarity a harvest like that brings.

Over boiled over night.... that has a good making of glue, perhaps a store bought skull cap mount will do for you,

There are no more combo licences, so. A guy that maybe small game hunted might I'd just bought a sportsman in the off chance he would deer hunt, or the guy that deer hunted would buy a combo incase he saw some small game now only buys his buck tag, the dec has no idea how many people hunt turkey in the fall or in the spring , the tag is cheap so I'm at the license shop and I buy it incase maybe I see one in the fall,I only spring hunt, or I buy it as I only fall hunt... their numbers in all things are just s.w.a.g. maybe this new system will give a better s.w.a.g after a few years when numbers calm down.
