  1. The spray in is so effective my 2x12 rafters are the weak point, funny seeing little melted line in heavy frost on the roof, opposite of normal roof
  2. I did my whole house with it when I built in 2006, it's expensive but we'll worth it in savings, I use to heat a 1000 ft trailer and would go thru 3000 gal of propane just for the winter, I now heat a 3000 sq ft house and use 1000,for the year including all my hot water and cooking. It's 2 to 4x more in. Cost but doubles the insulation value vs regular fiberglass. I recommend it
  3. true but how many doe do you pass on average during bow waiting for a buck?? I can shoot 10 to 20 doe a year with bow (now granted some may be return deer from another day) fact is bow hunters did not manage the herd, most of us bow hunt for opportunity at a good buck . I know many others who do the same, dec has said for years shoot doe, that is why they allow crossbow and soon to be early muzzloader to do what bow hunter refuse to do, look at the wining going on now!!!
  4. If genetics was first then releasing a huge buck in the wild from a pen would result in huge racks in the wild,if a penned deer escapes it rack will diminish in size every year it lives in the wild assuming it was mature when it escaped,as stress of breeding, and lack of nutrition take its toll on its health. Though the genetic potential is passed on it does not appear due to nutrition defencies
  5. Maybe those areas should of been made earn a buck, bet you would see doe shot then or at least the tags reported that they did,let the dec calculate that....
  6. Could.of.been easily.avoided if archers shot does instead of waiting for a big buck.... that's what they want kill does.. but I'd get doe tags and fill all those first
  7. And the people in Ohio love the chance we have for 2 bucks at least the few hundred I know through work that live and hunt there
  8. That fine 1 buck rule but then drop bow and muzzleloader stamps to 1$ as I pay the same for a buck tag like everyone else.
  9. Antlers grow, mid april, may june, into most of july, by August though they still have velvet they are filling with minerals, and have stopped growing and are hardning, big bucks will be up 9,inches or so by may. Yearlings seem to take longer as I've seen them start very late depending on body size and birth date. Longest I saw velvet on a buck was Oct 22nd an a 3 point with tiny body that I would say was a late born fawn the previous year.
  10. my whole camp does there ow n deer so 14 didn't show at processors...
  11. If the tips are still balled they are still growing, though this is a much smaller group %, most are done and mineralization is occuring, I've seen rubs (velvet removal) by,August 18th here
  12. Tru no till is bad news just a waste of your time and seed, rake or burn off the trash, then plant. This works well especially if the area held grasses before.
  13. I am against ar's they do not do anything more than stoke someone's ego thinking they are going to kill a big one, thing is the decrease in population allows yearling bucks to get more nutrition and therefor bigger antlers so your restriction of antler points to make them older is negated. how many here can say every buck they shot is 8pt or bigger? Everyone starts small and work their way to bigger more mature game as a personal choice. Who are we to tell someone oh sorry can't shoot that when we have a basket full of small bucks in the attic in the garage. Forget antlers and let hunting be what iit's suppose to be, a time to band with older and younger members of family and friends,a harvest of delicious meat, and a fun wholesome experiance away from today's electronic busy world outside in the beauty that is missed in our urban enviroments.
  14. The whole reason they aren't in all of archery is purely political, they are set as muzzloader because nys law requirks 3 years of experience with a weapon before a course can be taught.so no teachers and archery intrest groups would fight against teaching it, so put a muzzleloader and it's ok to use. yes they are easier to sight in, but experiance hunting is still needed to get fairly close for a positive kill range ( not dumb luck) by the way in saw a simple compound bow kill a deer thru the heart last year at 70 yards... not an amazing feat but one shot the hunter practiced and knew where his arrow would hit. Was it luck yes deer could of moved. they will be included eventually in all of archery, but having used both, I enjoy my bow more then my crossbow, and though new "gun hunters will appear it doesn't make them have the skill to get deer in range consistently.
  15. Saved a roast and 10 lbs to make jerky for.opening day .
  16. Why does everyone think the dec is limiting crossbow to last two weeks of archery?? The politicians did that, the dec pushed for full inclusion in archery, the special intrest groups pushed the politicians to limit it... until nys residents wake up and add a right to hunt amendment to the Constitution and put in place a game comission to regulate it we will always have the politicians messing things up as interest groups push their own adgenda,if the even vote to let us have a season.....
  17. Hardening now in august, rubs will show in about 2 weeks here
  18. Deer are not my number one ,but for me to pull the trigger on one, 1. If it is a mature doe with twin button bucks, it gets shot on doe tag (momma chases her young away so if she's dead the only home range they know is hers and they stay, 2. A wounded deer will get shot if I have tag for it,or a call will be made to some one that has a tag to come over and shoot it. 3. A buck has to be in the top 5 of what the property has to offer via trail cam pics and sightings through the year. That being said, if a member of camp wants meat and isn't having luck I will fill my tag with an adult doe or yearling buck and give it to them, usually muzzloader season as I prefer each hunter get the enjoyment of getting their own.
  19. If it's new tomthe area food source it.may take a year or so, then watch out..the attack like ants to a sugar pile
  20. And thus the reason I hate comparing state vs state antler scores, soil types and street from land use all factor into size, in a pen with quality feed yes genetics will rule, but take that buck and put him in the wild and his horn size will decrease, genetics can't surpass the need for minerals and nutrition. In my opinon, planting something is better than nothing, and a safe area for game to hide in are the two easiest things for the average person can do.
  21. The legislature passes last two weeks for crossbow, dec just runs regs it doesn't make them, we don't even have a season till legislature passes it every year... we need to get an amendment to state constitution for right to hunt and to be regulated by game comission, then we can have game law enforcement and seasons and weapons picked by dec and not of bunch of men in suits, there wouldn't be a crossbow debate as de ec could do what it wants and put it in all of archery with no political be lobbing by special interest groups...
  22. Grouse, turkey , and deer in that order
  23. If it's been composted yes if not I'd stay away
  24. Nice, I would turn the camera up the trail a bit more is all, give little better pics as it would cover trail longer allowing for more photos Esp if deer is walking fast
