Thinking of getting into food plotting?
G-Man replied to G-Man's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Some of you must have great ground or small plots... my neighbor bought a 3 pt tiller and busted 9 teeth off it first day i now plow his field for him. Cant beat plow and disk for reclaiming old sod or fallow fields.. i like using a field cultivator after the 30 year old sod is gone, -

50 an hr is fair price. Is he plowing, disking, and planting it? Fertilizer and nitrogen later as well? Spraying for weed control?

For those of you thinking about getting into food plotting, do you know what you need depending on size of your plot? I know atv equipment is available but is it worth the price not to mention wear and tear on your expensive atv? Do you really need a 4 wheel drive tractor? Some may just want to pay to have someone come and do the work but is it cost effective? Hopefully the people that are serious food plotters can give you there opinions and share their experiance with you. Post some questions here and i and i'm sure some other will be glad to try to help you !

I especially like the ads on tv, showing and atv running a plotmaster or similar implement behind it showing perfectly worked ground. maybe if the ground has been worked up previously, and its sandy loam... we live in ny land of clay, roots n rocks... Atvs with spreader, great for planting /fertalizing spraying small fields.. other than that they are toys... used tractors cheaper last 100x longer and do more work. can't tell you number of people that tell me i need a atv they great for getting deer out of the woods.. i look at them and say show me one that can drag 2 cord of wood out at a time and i'll think about it... Plus i seem to be doing all the food plots for the camps up the road that bought atv's to do that and gave up years ago..and i make money off them so they are still paying for that nice s x s they paid 10 grand for..tractors paid in full and earning money... hmm.

Rule of thumb if you can drive over it it should be able to cut it...they will be able to out preform your quad. as for quads, nice toys not build for really doing food plots... used 8n tractor 3000 (in great shape rebuilt) bush hog used good shape 500. New atv 5000 plus brushhog $... if you haven't bought one yet think tractor, rather than beating up an underweight underpowered ATV... just my opinion and experience. before everyone shows me their atv food plots pics...

Leaks starting to come out about buck likely over Hanson buck score
G-Man replied to phade's topic in Deer Hunting
I still think rompola's buck is actual new world record, think he just got turned off to all the bs that went along with its controversy. And the jordan buck is still a better looking buck than hansons.. guy is lucky he didnt knock horn off with his bullet... -
we are very apathetic as a people, 9/11 hundreds of american flags flying everywhere, 6 months after...a meer smattering. from 300 on my mom's street, to 2 after , the same two that flew before 9/11. history shows we don't care... he the guy at this rate will probably be 1st emporer of america... ugh...

Yep have the same here, amazing how you can shoot 20 of the buggers and 20 more show up... hope we get early spring, deer have taken to standing next to my logger waiting him to drop the tree and are eating the tops as they hit the ground, even while he's bucking logs off the trunk...Food is pretty scarce..

Nice looks like a true european mount as well not a skull mount! NIce he got a good cape and you got the mount, you both made out, seems like you found an honest taxidermist!

Grow, i've only had 1 year where i had corn left in spring 2 years ago, very mild winter, how much fertilizer are you adding to your field when planting? Or are you top dressing?. Rows are much better for hunting purposes as you can shoot down them, esp with a bow, off the ground while stalking. I have no active farms within 5 miles of me and deer travel a long way to get to the corn. A half arce corn field in the middle of the woods is not going to last unless they have other food sources, as for the coon by me trapper got 11 in 7 days off a acre field they were demolishing. Glad to see em gone. Would of trapped longer but bear was taking animals with the traps... quick way to lose money so he left.

Standing corn is awesome to hunt over late season, you will see how bad your population is out of skew for sure quick. We try to take 10 doe a year off 200 acres, just to maintain , took several years to get doe down so wild seedlings could grow without being nipped, was also good reenforcement that if you want meat shoot a doe, let the little bucks grow. amazing we did it with out being told thru mandatory ar's to let em grow.

Why do people even listen to biased media, as soon as newspapers, unions, employers, celebrities starting endorsing candidates this country went to hell. Its all lobbing and all biassed. Research yourself, look at news from both sides of the media, be intelligent. Make your own decision. I personally am sick of everyone telling me what to think or do. Freedom of speech is great, but it is abused when the people/groups in power use it to push their own beliefs or the beliefs they get paid to push. All i know is there are millions of guns out there (been made for a few hundred years) and only a hand full of murders caused by guns( around 8000 a year in the us with a population of 80 mill) so guns obviously aren't the problem.

I think a big buck could be kept off the radar very easily, butcher it yourself, just horn mount, so head never goes to taxidermist.. heck lucky buck was a world record for years and never measured.. some old timers and conservative people don't care about the rack, and don't run around saying look at me see what i got! -
Hope you don't have to many deer around, cleaned out 7 acre field by end of october this year on me... If you want a later season plot the more square the better, unless you have coon and squirrels under control the first 4 to 6 outside rows will be nothing more than stalks as the coon and rodents don't wait for corn to mature and coon especially love it in milk stage. The deeper the field the more chance you have for ears to make it for late season. If your small game is under control long irregular is way to go.

So last evening had a 300lbs or so bear out in the field by my house, temp was 19 degrees, went down to -2 last night. what the heck was it thinking? should of been sleeping!!

better off with chickory/ alfalfa for dryer ground. clover likes it wetter, your soil will be very poor if ceder was growin there, lots of lime and probably fertalizer will be needed.
-
You must have a lot of doe around , to keep coming into esterous.... gotta work on that...
-
try buncy real estate, there are several in my area for sale

set a conibear, if you get the cat is it really so bad? pole cat regular cat... whats the difference? actually if you don't bait it your chances of catching your neighbors cat is slim.. would you go in a hole that smelled like a skunk?

Deep powder (2-3 ft) is tough cause its over the windshield and in your face, but to much? they were they only things moving during the blizzard of 77 and saved countless lives... too much snow????

reed will eventually go in but i think for this vote chris carter has inside track, as a deep threat reciever(lot more flash and memorable , i see lots of highlight of amazing leaps and grabs of his, reed was a workhorse undercoverage reciever, not to many highlights of his, james loften was on team then and was an impressive deep threat and was in on 1st vote. Look at it a a trail cam contest, the big flashy buck wins every time, even with outstanding photos of herons spearing fish, bears with 3-5 cubs, even great pics of does duking it out with their hooves, awesome and worthy of praise, but the buck always wins.. deep threat (buck ) vs (possession) awesome once in a lifetime pics of everything else

I think chris carter has the inside track this round..
