i have gone on a fenced pig "hunt". it was not a hunt imo just away to gather meat, i used a blk powder pistol, and took a pig with one shot at 20 yards. the "guide" was telling us how guys go in and shoot 3-4 times with high power rifles to get a pig. he looked at me and said reload...the pig went 20 feet fell over dead. he tried to make it seem like it was so unusual and was shocked at how fast the pig died. oh by the way it was supose to be a 3 day hunt on a 30 acre enclosure the guy i went with and i were done in 35 min... like i said not a hunt. if i didn't win it at a fund raising auction i would of never went. But the meat was delicious.

I've seen old photos of the "punk-guns" mounted on canoes used to take herds of deer at night along lakeshores in the days of meat hunting as well as flocks of ducks n geese. outlawed when duck and goosehunting laws came into effect in the early 1900's. neat gun ...I would do it once!

The biggest problem i've seen on state land was when my snowmobile club was repairing a trail and bridge over a ravine. A group of 4 cycleists showed up and i overheard them say damn snowmobiles why do they let them here anyway all they do is mess up our trails! To which my partner (in no uncertain terms) explaind to them that the club built and maintains the trails from registration fees and do the labor free. he then asked what they did to maintain the trail and park.... this is the problem with a lot of state land, hunters and clubs pay fees to maintain the lands and taxes where the bird watcher/hiker may pay taxes but reaps the benifits of others fees, and then pushes for our exclusion from the land we maintain!- 38 replies

A crossbow cocked and no bolt on it isnt dangerous. And Everyone seems to forget, the game in this state is not yours!! it belongs to the state! We would not have this dicussion if most bowhunters(myself included) killed deer! not just wait for a buck, the state wants does killed. we may not agree with it but thats what they want. So crossbows will be included in regular season and the take will go up(at least that what the state wants). A few new hunters may take some deer, but in my experiance i try as i get older to make it harder on myself to get deer. i started with A gun, bought a compound bow, went to pistol, went to muzzloader(inline),then to a side hammer percussion, to percussion blk powder pistol. to flintlock rifle. i now am learning on an english long bow i hope to use one season in the near future. All this will do is create another stringed weapon to be used in a stringed season. One i hope will bring more women, kids, new hunters in general into the sport of hunting. Some i'm sure will develop skills and eventually try other implements as their knowledge and experiance progresses.

Well i guess the key to a good marrage is to stay shut-ins. Come on really? sites like this and fb allow people to get along and chat, maybe catch up with long lost friends from school, if someone is going to cheat they would no matter what. Besides some people do meet and create a realtionship i,and isn't that what e- harmony and like site state? Fb is ok... just need to use your head when using it. some people don't think and they will get in trouble.. I like using it to keep in touch with family that has moved away from the area, and out of th ecountry for that matter..no long distace fees here.

Nice mount! But it looks an american version of a european mount. a true european mount removes the top palate of the mouth, removing the teeth. this is a faster easier way that american adopted... if not done well the teeth will losen and fall out of the skull eventually.

Land in ohio..5000+ an acre... iowa 10-20,000 an acre. id stick in ny, you can still find good deals if you have the time to look. A good piece with timber on it will pay taxes for quite a while if managed properly. as well a provide a fun recreational spot. larger parcels are less expensive per acre, than smaller. you can always add a cabin/home later

Wild Apple Tree Rehab
G-Man replied to NY Region 3 Trapper's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I've pruned wild apples for years, my recomendation is to work on the ones the deer prefer, i did a lot of work pruning one behind my barn and fert it with 10-10-10 only to find nothing eats its apples!! they fall and rot away. while 40 yards another one i did work on will have deer standing on their hind feet to get to an apple. you can prune apples all winter and it makes good browse for winter food. just don't remove to much to fast it may take a few years to get a tree to where you want it. too fast will shock and kill a overstressed tree. one in shape just pruning suckers will promote greater yields. In my own orchard it sounds wierd but hitting the trunk and main limbs in spring with a rolled up newspaper also causes stress same as pruning resulting in greater yields. -
The state troopers went to 45 cal for a reason, a person shot with a 9 mm would still shoot back!! A 9mm was developed as a millitary round designed to wound, there by taking 3 men off the battlefield (2 guys to carry the one wounded). The same is true for the .223 rifle round (snipers don'tuse it they want to put a target down for good!). A deer in my opinion is a lot tougher than a person ..i know if i was hit anywhere with a 12gauge slug i would prolly just lay down n die,not run like you see a deer do!! I would not recommend anything smaller than a 44 mag for deer in a revolver. that only leaves a 45-70 5 shot, and a few other large caliber rounds available. Now if you went to an encore, you can shoot rifle rounds out of (single shot) your choices are about endless!

The maverick shotgun is the same as mossberg 500 and the barrels are interchangeable, i got a smooth shotgun barrel for my 500 from them. The slugs are a lot cheaper for smoothbore, and face it i usually only shoot 75 yards top with a shotgun.

Well honestly some of the best ir pics i've seen.. still sticking to the white flash personally just like the color!!.... they don't make black n white tv's for that same reason anymore!!! ......

Well i just bought a "foreign" car for the gas milage. problem is the sticker shows it as made in illonois. i sure hate to tell the factory workers there that i'm not buying the car cause is foreign.... Face it yes the government has debt and most of it we owe to ourselves... just do what all the other countries do that we lend money too. say sorry not paying it back. we've lent out trillions to foreign countries and they don't pay us back. As for oil, the factor that regulates price is refining, we have such high enviromental standards that there hasn't been a refinery built in the us since the 80's!!! They cannot handle the amount of crude oil coming in, this is a fact! So we buy it from foreign sources again most in the western hemisphere, this shift started after opec did their gas rationing in the 1970's. face it we get along with canada, mexico, and other western countries better than we will ever get along with the middle east.

In the woods, never killed a bird on a field or edge of field in over 20 years of hunting them. I have the best luck roosting the night before sliping within 60 yards or so ..use soft calling after daylight and after their own calling starts, and the bird lands 30 yards out ..bang! back in and back asleep by 7am.... probably 90% of my birds have been killed this way. My friends like to hunt till noon everyday if they don't kill one right off, i have a firm belief that trying all morning just educates the birds and makes it harder as the season goes on. If i don get ont that morning by 8am i go home and come back tommoorw. An all morning hunt may be useful if you have several areas miles apart where you can get on a fresh bird each time you go out..

had fresh rubs and scrapes end of january. Found some sheds and saw some bucks still carrying their horns!

I think you just saw documented evidence how much a buck can grow over a year, Maybe between 3 and 4 years old, greater possiblity from a great 2year old and 3year old now that would be my thought 2 in first 2 pics due to bases and 3 in second.. Tough to judge velvet pics as the seem heavier than they are at least for me.. brows are same, lopsided and point pattern is similiar the main beams grew in legnth as well i would say same buck. just aged and matured over a year. unless one would know habitat and growth patterns its never 100% but bucks can really bloom between 2 and 3 and 3 and 4 after that antlers may gain mass and kickers but always similiar.. the this years photos are to poor to see body characteristics(torn ears, scars, ect) sometimes thats the only way to tell if a 2 year old is the same as a 3 year old the next year.Unfortunatly most people would shoot the buck in the first 2 pics as a great two year old and not allow it to mature, that is a problem with points per side rather than spending the time learning body charastics and studing trail cam photos to learn what is around and how they grown.

kicker is a deduction... had an article on record 6pt i believe it just made b&c.. 170 in as a 6 pt ..i believe it was in d&dh several years ago...i 'll have to look around for it..

I never got paid for chores or allowance...started working for a farmer when i was 12 to get what i wanted... bout time someone put their foot down, as for social services, yes there is abuse out there but the world would be a lot better place if they kept out of 99% of kids bitching about parents.. if i told my parent i was gonna call social services on then it would be the last thing i ever did...
