  1. Outlaws are outlaws, wether using crossbow, bow, gun, muzzloader, snares, ect... to lump them in with all the law abiding users of these weapons is as bad as being one yourself....
  2. Joe, i can only go by what i know is taken off my property but i would agree with you that their numbers are skewed..take doesn't seem to be dwindling here and actuall we tied our best year 2000 this year.
  3. I've taken 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th shots at group of doe and buck, a bow is quiet a crossbow is not, and a bow can be drawn quiet and quick a crossbow....not so much. Growsalot...ok so your not worried about someone getting a deer but you don't want more hunters in the woods,or a least of a type you percieve would take up crossbow. And i guess you'll have to call me a liar i honestly don't know any of the type your complaining about not that i don't believe that they exist, i just think they would drop the sport very quickly and there would be lots of used xbows for sale.
  4. Joe , i agree with you this is wrong along with so many other taxes that are put in place to make up for misappropreated tax dollars. Just i see it as happening....more taxes that is and it will be only a matter of time before they try to tax the air we breathe... can't see them actually cutting spending or spending wisely.
  5. ok with the exception of arrowflinger, whom i know believes in the art of drawing a bow and believes bow season is for that and that alone... I believe as i have not read anything on here that most(arrowflinger excepted) are just more worried about someone getting their deer!!
  6. if its not showing wear or fraying don't change it! If for piece of mind you do change it remember strings stretch,it will not shhot the same as before you changed it! you will need to put several hundred shots on a new string to have it stretch all the time resighting it in as it stretches. Imo practice with what you have that will make all the difference on your hunt!!
  7. I can see your point of less of a say, but our fees wouldn't have to increase....not sure about the bike thing but i would like to see a park stateland use fee, included with hunting licence and snowmobile/atv reg, $25for 5 days $5 for 1day use, $40 for year. would spread the cost out and keep our cost from increasing.
  8. here is the local news link: http://www.wivb.com/dpp/money/4_your_wallet/bicycle-license-plates-could-be-coming
  9. just saw that nys wants to charge 25$ to register bike every year... hmmm, to broad i'd hate to register kids bikes but i see what they are after...next they should hit the hikers/crosscountry skiers who use statelands and trails.... we as hunters pay for the maint of these trails and lands maybe some non-hunters paying in won't be to bad!
  10. You still have to get in range with a crossbow, and practice. I still feel those against them are worried about more hunters in the woods getting their deer, can't say i really understand all the uproar over them. I already own a bow so unless they have a seperate season for them i can't see buying a crossbow even if they include it in the early archery season. All i do see is it allowing more people to enjoy the better weather and warmer temps that bow season enjoys now. Having another hunter in the woods by me won't ruin my hunting experiance, and for those that think a crossbow is going to be just like a gun i'm sure there will be lots of people eager to but your top of the line used equipment after you find out it takes woodsmanship over everything else to get game consistantly!
  11. Old man is asked by a doctor for a sperm count. Doctor: Bring back a semen sample in this jar. He comes back and the jar is clean and empty. Doctor: What happened? Old Man: I tried with my right hand, nothing. I tried with my left hand. My wife tried both her hands, nothing. She tried with her mouth, still nothing. We called our neighbor,... nothing. Doctor: You asked your neighbor? Old Man: The DAMN JAR WOULDN'T OPEN!
  12. Well the prepwork is starting to become a tradition as i do not have the ablity and time to hang, trim, mow trail to all the stands, as well as maintain the few perm. stands as i once did. Simply put told the guys that hunt if you want the stands up before the season you better come out and help! They now call and come out at least 2x before the season and take a weekend in feb. to take all the portable stands back down via snowmobile. the feb weekend is turning into a winter party weekend as they bring their kids, and sled, ice fish, and give snowmobile rides.
  13. I really don't understand how a lot of hunters think unposted land is huntable? It's very simple if you don't own it someone else does! I think this is why there is so much land posted today! Second so the land is posted unhuntable right? Wrong most landowners just want to know who is on their property and where! this aviods running into each other/shooting in each others direction. third when you do get permission to hunt posted land was it given just to you? if so don't bring along friends this is a really quick way to lose the permission recieved. I wish nys would go to a system like ohio where you need written permission from the landowner and must be able to present it on demand,if the land is posted or not!
  14. I would still practice at 10 yards and even closer from an elevated position hate to miss a shot on a deer that sneeks in...think its easy try it.... I am a much better shot at longer ranges than I am at extreemly close shots..
  15. hunt over bait wtf??? it can be done without.....
  16. Funny how the columbia students don't jeer the gay, black, hispanic, and are themselves hyppocrites when it comes to the military. I doubt they would keep a gay soriority,or frat. from being on campus. but they fight the miliatary who by oath protect the very freedoms that they believe in(free speech). I'm with you mr vjp! this is about as much unamerican as it gets! where is their tolerence??? the fact the college has a ban on military is so discriminatory that they should be sues by the government! Any wonder when these graduates become out leaders why america is headed down the tubes... Its a very sad state that we are in.
  17. Well the best traditon of going down to camp on sat getting it all set up,euchre games sat night, visting neighboring camps on sunday, turning in early sun night to get up for the great monday opener!! came to an end with the opening day changing to sat. Only some of the guys i hunt with can come down thurs evening and hang out and relax fri before the sat opener the rest arrive late friday evening and it just seems to hurried. the only thing that hasen't changed is 7 layer lasagna server for dinner the night before opening day!
  18. well after the mild winter last year and the big bucks taken prove it. i expect the buck to not come out of this winter in as good as shape so the horns won't show much improvement this year.... unless global warming kicks in soon i think were headed for a mini ice age... when will this snow stop.....

    Land Lease

Well i can only say knocking on the doors looking for a place to hunt other than big game is a lot easier..i got access to a large piece in the town of delhi about 10 years ago to hunt turkey in fall (season opens there oct 1 vs end of oct in wny)the owner was surprised we didn't want to hunt deer we told him no just fall turkey, after 5 years the owner offered us permission to hunt deer and turkey in the spring as well, he even introduced us to his son who was taking over the farm, the owner passed and the son still allows us to hunt. You have to consider the amout of people who want to hunt deer vs small game. its all about getting your foot in the door and building trust, deer may have to take a back seat for a bit as you build that landower/hunter relationship into a landowner/friend relationship. free hunting with time invested is better than $ and worring about if someone else will come in and pay more...just my opinion..
  20. Geno, I shoot a drenalin as well as an old mq-32. My friends xforce made them look like a model t racing a ferrari. I have another friend with a top of the line hoyt and its as fast as the xforce but sounds like a gun going off. I see mathews came out with a 2 cam bow to compete with the x force.
  21. I agree! I does violate the law, but its amazing how much baiting does happen.. As for shaking limbs i'm now wondering about that as well... Does the idea of baiting even arise due to limited/lack of time to hunt? i really just don't understand the whole concept behind it....
