I do not reccomend anything.less than an acre for corn and more than 2 for pure soybeans, coon, squirrels, birds take the first 5 to 8 rows out before it can mature.not to mention deer taking silk off growing ears... add a bear and it would be wipe out for sure. A half acre would be gone well before season due to access to outside rows.. it maybe possible if you had a fence around it or some other kind of plot saver. Most of my corn is for destination feeding not a kill plot. More to help with herd health thru the winter and early spring. Cereal grain, brassica, clover are more suited for a " kill" plot in my own experience.

They have been out bugging in cut fields last few weeks but they are growing up fast ,unless farmer takes 2nd cutting of hay they wont be able to bug as effectively...

If you broadcast soy bean and corn together ,it may come out ok. As long as soil is worked up well. , would still have to spread fertilizer somehow though.

Well corn is looking good planted mid may. Just entering dent stage r 5, need 20 to 26 days to black tip ( maturity ) puts me right at earliest frost date oct 1. Now if I could keep the damn black birds , squirrels, coon and other critters out of it for a few weeks..

I'm sure the club is discussing more security .

I havent heard but I believe it was a guy that's stole. 5 vehicles in last year and keeps getting out on bale reform, hoping the gun theft keeps him behind bars as that is federal...

Thought I would pass this along guys in wny/cny keep.a. look out please.. As some of you may have heard the Cuba Rod and Gun Club was broken into and items were stolen. This happened sometime after trap shooting Sunday morning to Tuesday afternoon when it was reported. Of the items that are missing we are most concerned with our trap guns. Please see the list below of 8 shotguns that are currently missing. We have pictures and SNs of all of them!! (3) Three—20 ga. Charles Daly autos, 2 with youth stocks, all are synthetic stocks 20 ga Mossberg 500 pump (Youth model) 20 ga Rem 11-87 with wood adjustable stock 12 ga Rem 11-87 with wood adjustable stock 12 ga Browning Auto (Lady Browning) 12 ga Rem 1100 Special Trap (Gold Eagle on receiver) These shotguns were used by the Cuba Trap Team and in the youth training program. Please spread the word and if you hear of anything contact us directly or the Cuba police! Thank you for your support — and please people lock up your items and check areas that are not always used. This is becoming way to common in our area!!

Cuba lake while on stand during eeason..

That only works on fairly flat.land . The hills here wreck havoc with wind directions

They are use to a lot of logging putting tops on ground ,which is free food.. so if it's done in the area a lot they tend to come with the association, like shaking bird seed in a scoop animal seem to know the feeders full

Most shops around here will only give 50 to 100 on a shotgun trade in.. and 100 is tip top almost.nib. like I said maybe worth just holding onto it and buying when you have a bit more funds. If you can get a good trade for it go for it ,but maybe better off selling outright.

About sums it up

The deer tend to ignore me and my cats as we are outside and thru the woods a lot especially the cats. My friend tj believes same as you they are just use to my smell, where when he is out they blow and run in a heartbeat. They use to be paranoid about getting cat scent on their hunting clothes ,but they realize now is probably the best cover scent around as they are outside and everywhere for 12 to 26 hours at a pop. Deer simply think oh its that cat.. you may want to experiment using your buddies clothes and see if that works. Or give him some of yours to wear a bit ...

Deer remember as in instinctually. This past weekend was a war zone here, every camp shooting guns ,slamming car doors , wood stoves lit, checking and hanging stands. Deer learn that human scent is danger and this sudden influx sends them into a flight response. Same as if they have an experience in a certain area they escape from, they will look for a hunter there again and again.

Why trade it in? Shotguns are cheap now since rifles are allowed and can be picked up very reasonable. You wouldnt get much on your trade in as no one wants shotguns for deer anymore. , you can pick up a classic used Cheap and buy barrels for it to suit your needs.

It depends I'd you have more than one doe group on your property. And the age structure of each. A large family group give plenty of opportunity to take a mature doe, personally I try and take one with twin button buck fawns as they are not dispalaced at 1.5 by their mother. But I have a large property and 3 distinct family groups I can follow. I can see it changing patterns on small properties where the age is fairly young and the leader who shows the rest of the group the "ropes" is eliminated..

I've seen one shot 5x with .243 and no bullets made it past the ribs. Hide and 4 inches of fat at 15 yards. I cant tell you what bullet it was ,but it was a 243. 7mm, 45 70 and 12 ga all went through.

Bit light for a possible shot at a bear let alone a big bear...

30-06 allows very light loads air heavy if your reload yourself with century of Information available, 308 is simply a recoil reduced 30-06 as many couldnt take the punishment of a 30-06. So when army went to 308 so did rest of the country.. if you ever plan a western trip or longer range shots I'd stick. To. 30- 06.

I dont cut clover 1st year , if its thin just frost seed next spring ,and you can add winter grains in fall. If its growing in thin now then add winter rye now as a cover crop and let it go to head next spring then roll it . Let clover get established the rye will help soil and keep weeds from. Competing

That's a good thing. If you were they would most likely disperse before season ,if past sign is there old rubs, scrapes, trails they will be there again. Fall requirements are different than summer nutrition and cover wise..
