Smoothbores are differet then rifled guns depending on what barrel choke ammo gun combination you use it can make a big difference ( note : different slugs group differently in different smoothbores .) That is the reason you get so many different views on this from 50 yards to over 100 yards You have to test out a bunch of stuff to no for sure . Basically you have to try out a bunch of different ammo and chokes to see what works best. If you don't want to experiment and have the money a rifle barrel will shoot most ammo Well that is the real difference in my opinion there not as ammo sensitive As a smoothbore is.

To me if you test what ammo works best with your smoothbore it is totally not necessary the drop is still going to happen in a rifled barrel and the accuracy for the most part not a big difference when you are talking about hitting a deer size target . And most hunting in this state happens under 100 yards anyway .

I always here a lot of new and even old hunters saying they don't have time to hunt as much as they would like because they only good places open to hunting are far away from where they live . My idea is why not give big land owners and farmers the option to open up parts of there land to public hunting for a tax break or even the state could lease from them the land to be used for the hunting season . Also new York State could have a extra permit for a fee for hunters that wanted to hunt that leased land .this way it would cost them nothing and maybe would even generate more revenue for them. Ok now tell me why my idea is crazy let's here it

Yep I here you , I showed a cousin of mine a few pics from this website of some huge bucks and his first reaction was . he probably jack lighted it or baited it or it is a high fence deer bla bla bla . That is why in a way I dont understand people who only hunt for topheys . Yea unless it is someone you know really well . most people will just criticize you for it. either they won't believe you shot it legitimately or if they dont hunt they will criticize you for trophy hunting. That is why I never talk about hunting except if I know I'm talking to someone who I know hunts . It is what it is .

Maybe cousin Billy Bob who works at the gate gave him a tip

What to watch, name some good hunting channels on YouTube any suggestions ? Channels on hunting in York york would be even better if you know of any good ones.

A lot of parks do that they tell friends and family about when things are opening or changing before everybody else . Happens all the time he probably knew somebody that works at that Park to know before anyone else about changes .

Lease Available (Steuben County) $750 year
Hunter007 replied to TheMiz54's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
To far from me my friend but if you let me hunt the first 3 day of gun season for free and I get a 8 point or better I will happily give the 750 . But to just shoot a spike or a doe not worth the 5 hour drive to your land. I probably would not even be able to go more the first 3 days to be honest.- 7 replies

Saw that guy just the other day with that bear in Cosco

It is the helicopter part that makes it look fun really

You could have just took a leek in front of that camera and got results

That's why i dont understand why it is allowed to walk in the woods with a firearm or bow in the dark , but only when its actually daylight out i see guys already in the woods at 4am on public land sometimes do I really believe there waiting 2 3 hours for the sun to come up to shoot .
-
That would be the way to do it . If I ever went to a place like that i would try and definitely use something that was more challenging. like use a spear or slingshot. lol Its funny when you watch those videos of those places the guys usally always have the biggest caliber you can imagine with the hugest scope to shoot a animal from 20 yards away in a box blind in front of a feeder lol anything over a smoothbore shotgun in those places is way overkill .

I think most hunters try to hold out a little but after so many hours or so many days they just take what they can take . Not everyone has the time to wait for a monster buck to come by .

Hunter007 replied to WaterfowlNoob's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I think they went nocturnal I saw the tracks in the snow still a couple of days ago when it snowed here . But up to a few weeks ago you would see them in the daytime now I haven't seen one around something must have spooked them to go nocturnal . -

I bet you he is going to say because the young ones taste better anyway , more tender meet watch
-
Yea,but it is still a big piece of public land compared to anything else around except the adks of course I guess know body remembers number 2 .
-
Seems like you here more about big woods hunting in the adks but Catskills also has endless forests to hunt . Just wondering why it seems so over looked compared to the Adirondacks.

Well I think they need to be a little more specific like at least say what part of the state they want to hunt at . Be kinda of hard to get someone if they don't know where they would like to hunt . It would have to be someone close to them I would imagine.
