send letters for crossbows in NY

Recommended Posts

I will deviate from my associates here.

I do not think legalizing crossbows will increase the percentage of slobs out there, nor do I feel like crossbow hunters will shoot every hunter that moves.

There is no direct threat from crossbows.  Crossbows are legitimate deer hunting tools, and they should have a place in the woods.

But....crossbows are not bows.  They are easier to learn than bows, and easier to use than bows.  They have a ballistic advantage over the typical bowhunting rig, and they are more accurate in the hands of average hunters than compounds.

Which means their place in the woods should not coincide with bows.

Crossbow hunters looking for the reward of additional challenge should appreciate their new gun season.  Crossbow hunters looking for their proper place should be looking for their own season.

Crossbow pushers, who divorce themselves from the ballistic and functional advantages of the crossbow, keep trying to force intrusion into bow season.

But crossbow does not equal bow.

Naaa, we're still goin for "your" bow season so we can shoot "your" bucks, we are not settling for anything else, so stop dreaming up your 1/2 measures, just aint gonna happen that way fella. crossbows belong in archery season and thats where they will be...take your vert compound bow and go hunt during gun season if thats what your into, or take your vert bow and hunt in the month of Febuary if thats what floats your boat, we are licensed hunters of the state of NY who live and work here and will not settle for something as stupid as gun season or another season..

Now I can respect that. I dont agree with anything from the work "But" on down, but I can respect your opinion.

There will be cross-bows in the archery season in 5 years or less, and you know who to blame its not the cross-bow guys it’s not the gun hunters it’s not the handicap hunters. The blame for the use of cross-bow in the archery season should be place squarely on the shoulders of the origination that claims to represent all bow hunters. The NYB by taking a no cross-bow no-way for any reason stand. Made it possible for the pro cross-bow forces to get almost everything in time they want. Because the NYB made themselves look like elitist spoiled children. The NYB could of help craft a law that would have loosened the handicap restriction and maybe put in an age requirement. Let’s hope when cross –bows comes to the archery season those wanting to use cross-bows in the archery season will have to take the bow hunters course.

Boy ...Right THERE that is the REAL problem...ppl like you that don't care that there are slob hunters...and that they are growing in numbers....You'd rather be on line bashing other hunters for having a real concern about the introduction of a weapon that would make things even easier for these same slobs to continue doing the illegal things that YOU don't care about....Don't get me going on the conservation officers and police officers taking care of the problem.....Just take a good look at the skewed numbers of conservation officers for down state compared to every place else ::) ...Ha.... lets talk about how many small town cops have gotten caught doing illegal hunting activities over the past 30yrs with slaps on the wrist.....complacent and naive hey?

I never said I didn't care about slob hunters.. I just don't let that dictate how my hunting experience goes.. the introduction of crossbow will have little or no affect on any hunters hunting experience unless they become so obsessed with the inclusion that they start losing sleep over it... like some of you seem to be.

Now you're paranoid about law enforcement being the bad guy... you need to just "shut up and hunt".. less seeking out the negative and more embracing the positive... and for the record.. in my areas I have not seen the so called "slob hunters" in the numbers that you discribe...and I certainly don't spend the time I have to hunt... dwelling on what other hunter are or are not doing.. I'm too busy hunting.

There is nothing paranoid about what I said about law enforcement...it was a statement in fact....

Your blessed not to have the problems we have here and I am out hunting every single day ..but when your minding your own business on your own property and have ppl nearly shooting you and family members....sitting in a stand in the middle of your land to hear..."shit! she's in her stand" coming from behind you or when your turkey hunting and guys are strolling through the property....when you are out by your live stock and some guys still hunting 50ft away and tells you to go "f" your self because you ask his name...The dogs are barking at night and you find 4 guys wondering around behind your house...Lets see you find a guy with a shot gun in the middle of your property and tell him to step out of the bushes and give you his tag info...he then steps up on you and ask "Who the hell are you?''.....when your cell phone rings and it's your neighbor screaming at the top of their lungs they'er shooting at me!!!and you can hear the shots and the phone goes dead.....the guys next door shoot and kill one of there own ...Hey you look out your front porch and a guy standing in a pick up bed is drawing down on your goats with a bow.....broad heads in your tractor tires...and just the other day the neighbor asking about road bow hunters at his place

Well this has been a total 15 years and that is just a fraction of whats happened...Hell not a single good reason to be a tad negative there!....No I don't have to move....nor stop hunting and by the way same crud is happening at our camp and driving the ppl that live down there crazy....the road hunting and the trespassing ...on..and on...that is 60 miles away....I just have to keep buying more land around me and more cameras...the other person having these same problems next to us....just added another 50 acres...... so soon these guys will find it difficult to sneak on any where around us  These twits just keep loosing more hunting land and whining it's our fault ... ::(

Ohh ya chicken little and the sky's falling.... well my dear you deal with this crap all year long and have the DEC tell you "what do you want us to do?...you know they'll just lie any ways"

The positive is that I have 2 kids that are still willing to go hunting at all....

When I see that the DEC can start cleaning up this kind of stuff...when they put as many officers in the rest of the state as they do down state...and when they have guys out there not getting friendly with the ppl doing this kind of stuff...because those ppl are ass kissers ....you'll see me..... and from the messages I've gotten from ppl....... a lot of other hunter/ land owners being a lot more positive...  I not only don't want xbows for anyone other than physically challenged ....but I'd  like to see eye..... drug and weapon proficiency  tests to get a hunting license.....renewal tests every 10yrs there after and the right to sue all violators on privately  owned lands...for punitive damages...Negative.... yep

Grow,

I have to say that I hunt down by you a lot and luckily we have none of the issues you mention...besides the ocassional trespasser.

Violaters need to be prosecuted and the penalties made very stiff. I just wonder with all that is going on around you now and the people doing it with bows to guns......do you really think there would be any increase in that type of activity if crossbows were included in bow?

Seems to me if these trolls are going to do it ilegal is really doesn't make a difference if there is a season or not. What is their incentative to use a legal implement to committ an illegal act? I don't know if I made any sense with that, but maybe

I'm sorry to hear that you have had so many problems...

However, the the state of NY does have trespass laws and they can be effectively enforced...

For get the DEC...The fish cops are understaffed and are concentrating on game violations, environmental issues and other stuff...

Call the Troopers or the Sherriff's Dept..It is thier job to enforce the trespass laws... You may have to be proactive to get results, but once  you have a few people arrested and fined, word will get around and you will have MUCH less trouble....

This is what I got from the sheriffs and state troopers....you need proof of what gun the slugs came from...then the deputy went into detail telling me how far the wading from a slug will travel before falling a way and how to find it and the slug?!... another time the DEC officer had a trooper as a ride along and he never spoke...the DEC officer didn't want to leave his vehicle and said how far back is it?!...Then when I had a dog attack me while hunting my land and I shot from my knee hitting the dog he was with ...the State trooper found the owner...no tickets just a warning and came back to tell me I had to wait at my house for the DEC to come ...for it was illegal to shoot the dog!...after several hours I Called the DEC and they hadn't heard anything about it and said I was lucky I had a gun...the dog that attacked me was on a deer someone else had shot and in a feeding frenzy...the deer was alive but its butt was gone...the dog would have killed me.

Here the problems would increase because the guys unwilling to take up a reg. bow and hunt only gun will be out in bow season with a xbow...

Did you know that in NYS a Convicted felon is allowed to hunt with....A BOW....Do you also know that it is easy to find out what convicted felons in your area are bow hunters...and with "special" dispensation they can get a reg gun deer license. That blk powder hunting is legal as well?...Guess what my neighbor looked up...ya well 5 in our area...gee go figure....2 with special dispensation...one with sealed records  brags about a friendship with a DA ??? ::( Also that there are felons that are hunting in gun season with a gun because they have a visible back tag because of the bow/muzzle license

They can hunt virtually any state with a bow.

Don't need "special dispensation" - they need specific conditions set individually to not be allowed to hunt with MZ.

If they are using or in possession of a firearm (MZ are not listed as firearms in NYS) they committing a felony worth at least 5 years I believe.

Absolutely none of this has anything to do with the fact all bows should be allowed in the bow season with performance limitations if justification can be shown for doing so - like some states limiting let off, draw wght, arrow wght, broad head type etc.

Trying to control criminal behavior by putting limits on the legal hunters is the same exact justification anti gunners use for their agenda. Or like outlawing forks to make Rosie O'Donnell lose wght. :(

Growalot.. i don't think the answer for you is no crossbows.. I think the answer is for you to find another place to live other the movie set of "Mad Max"... you might want to consider a move to a safer area of the world  :(

As for your law enforcement "bad guy" rant... we might as well not have ANY game laws then, seems to me you think that the officers aren't doing their jobs anyway... so who would there be to enforce all the laws if law enforcement is the bad guy?

And I still think none of it pertains to the crossbow issue what so ever.

I never said I thought it wasn't true.. just seems like if you are having the same trouble in 2 separate places.. your home and your camp..miles apart from one another... I might be able to offer one common denominator in the equation  :)

Your right Steve but to answer NY...Yes the common denominator are slob hunters...because I don't hunt camp more than 3-4days days per year...I have put all my efforts into my home property...camp is the family hunting ground were the guys have their co- workers and friends hunt...none of them bow hunt except my son and daughter and non of them besides my self bear or turkey hunt...The neighbors down there watch camp because we have the most rd frontage and they are tired of having their home shot at and all the garbage these ppl throw out when they stop long the road to hunt from their vehicles...they've already lost 3 dogs to these ppl

So getting back to the crossbow issue... how many would use a crossbow if it was included in bowseason and how many would use one if it had it's own season... and how many will use it during the regular season?... I myself would probably only buy one if it had it's own season.

I have other things higher on my list, but would only move a crossbow up the list faster if it had its own season that you couldnt use anything else in. Even when it gets added to regular archery season, I will be buying a new compound before a crossbow, and the crossbow I would buy would not be a compound version, it would be a recurve, probably an Excalibur.
