Paula
ok fisher but where is the tail Edited September 30, 2012 by paula
wdswtr
Yeah that is a fisher. They get suprisingly large. Lots of bushy hair too. I have trapped many fishers over the years and they get big and nasty. Hell there main diet is porcupine if that says anything.
clayshooter25
Ok... So how rare is a fisher in northern Westchester County , NY?
wdswtr
Dont know about your area but they are very abundant here along the salmon river. I would think not that rare at all. Hardly ever see them out in the wild especially during the day here but come trapping season its not hard to hit a quota at all in a short time. clayshooter25
I'm talking about the northern suburbs of NYC... 1 hour north
wdswtr
From DEC website. Tried to find a population map of them but no such luck. In New York State, fisher can be found throughout approximately 26,000 square miles of forested habitat within the northern, eastern and southeastern parts of the state. clayshooter25
Sounds rather reasonable... A fisher it is then! I'll post additional photos as animals of interest make themselves seen - hopefully Bigfoot next...LOL!

WNYBuckHunter
A coon with a tail malfunction would be my best guess.
clayshooter25
Hopefully I will get more photos of it that will help to clarify exactly what it is

Doc
I have no idea what that other animal is, but I will say that it is absolutely the silliest looking critter I have ever seen. That thing needs to be taken before it breeds or something.
wooly
I can't believe I'm about to say this, but that thing, (also looks like you caught it in your last pic in the bottom left corner) looks like a straight up pigglet.
