DeerLogic
We are excited about the recent news article written about DeerLogic: http://hamptonroads.com/2012/10/hunting-deer-theres-app Doug - DeerLogic
BaldguyLee
I like it even though I'm technologically way behind. But for a group of club members or guys with shared land privileges it sounds great. Like FRS radios with GPS video. Let's hope Norfolk, VA- based PETA doesn't find a way to hack into the groups' locations! Can you imagine those fools knowing exactly where a hunt is going on !? phade
I wonder if this is legal...real-time updates on deer activity? It's akin to using a radio during a drive here, no?

Paulie
Phade....forgive me as I don;t know, but is it illegal to use radio's when driving? I haven't been a part of a drive in years.....and back then we didn't have radios....
DeerLogic
I have no idea if you can use radios in your area. I can tell you DeerLogic is not a radio it is a mobile app for a cell phone. Shouldn't matter, but check you local hunting regulations.

SteveB
If you can communicate deer position to others (I haven't looked at it - most likely won't) it is illegal in NY.

Culvercreek hunt club
Yeah I have never read that law anywhere? The regulations clearly stated the use of aircraft was illegal but I have never seen radios or cell phones viewed as illegal. Several guys I hunt with including my father are older. print me up a book of tickets becasue I will be carrying a phone and a radio regardless of any law posted here or passed. ELMER J. FUDD
In the real world it's more like "Hey the deer are coming your way." "Oh I moved from that stand"
WNYBuckHunter
Ive never seen a law against it either, at least not in NY. I know there are other states with laws against that type of thing.
Sogaard
I've never heard of that either, and if it is illegal, I'd like to know. When I go hunting with my brother or friends we always send texts back and forth if something is spotted and seems to be moving in the direction of another hunter. DeerLogic
DeerLogic is set up for individual use or Hunt Groups. You can log all your data and if you choose to group with someone they get your data. You have the ability to see each other while hunting, and certain parts alert you when logged. Like harvested deer, when you log a harvested deer, a DL alert goes out to all your hunt group members that you got one, and they can see where you have killed it. Buck logs are alerts because most of the time a Buck Log is something that everyone whats to know about. Thats where the tracking comes in, you name your deer and log where ever he is seen. Through deer sign, and deer sightins, hopefully you are able to pattern him and get in his path for a harvest. Using DeerLogic this season has put our prostaff on some really good deer, and helped everyone feel safer in the woods. Follow your local laws and regulations!!!!!!!!! SteveB
How could we hunt without it? Another nice ad/plug.
Doc
And hunting technology marches on ..... lol. I guess there really is no end to it, is there? What we really need is a satellite service that shows the location of all the deer on our hunting area. Hey, a little infra-red technology from up in space could make this hunting stuff a simple piece of cake .... right?
phade
Looks like it is legal here. Question: Are portable radios or cell phones legal while I am hunting in the woods? Answer Yes. Many states however, outlaw the use of radios and communications devices to aid in harvesting a deer. Heck, I think it is Wyoming or Montana that's outlawed cell-phone enabled game cams in-season. It's based on the premise that real-time info is used against the deer. It's legal here, so that's all that matters.

SteveB
Upon researching further,I was wrong about the legality. I was remembering a conversation with a DEC officer some years back. I'm with Doc - where does it end? How many devices, apps, aids do we need to make it easier to kill an animal? And is the intro of another really "front page news"?
