Fingerlake deer are great tasting also!!!!! Great variety of forage for them packed with nutrients. We often see with our scouting cams a 140+ buck every year. My brother shot a 137 two years ago, 3 year old deer that was awesome!

I get cam pics of decent deer every year, I usually see one or two big guys, just havent had the opportunity to put one down yet. I know guys near my area that shoot monsters, and not just one in a lifetime either. The fingerlakes and WNY grows many big deer.

Biggest bucks ever recorded in the state were shot in Allegany County in 1939.

Here is my garage, some of the bucks I shot that I didn't get mounted. None of them are huge, but I was happy to take each and every one. They are "average" bucks in my opinion.

Here is one taken by my buddy's son, outside of Wellsville in 2008. Scored just shy of 160, gross. Now that is big for our area. Anything over 120 is big, here.

I don't know about sizes . All three taken in Sterling Forest about 100 yards apart in different seasons. My buddy killed the one in the single pic.

Sam, those are some outstanding deer.Congratulations!In my area of the catskills a100 inch buck is a good buck.any thing 120 or better is top end.

Here is a 140 class buck shot at the cabin in Howard 2 years ago. We see a few like this every year.

My opinion on average is a 1.5 -2.5 yr old, 6-8 pts weighing approx 120 - 140 lbs. A nice buck is 2.5 - 3.5 yr old, 8-? pts weighing over a 150 lbs and a big buck is to me is the one where I see it and say holy s**t thats big.

id say on average  bucks in the high 120s is usually a VERY NICE deer in NY.

there are quite a few that have multiple chances year in year out at deer over 150.

whats a trohpy for one may not be for another.

a big deer is in the eye of the beholder...

For me a buck that goes 90-120 would be a good average deer. 120-150 would be a great deer and 150+ would be a monster but im not holding my breath.

That being said you hunt in the ADKs and don't expect to see those upper end #s. I am more concerned with weight up there looking for 200+ lbs.

I know a guy with 44 ADK bucks to his name all but 4 make P&Y if my memory serves me correctly. But no absolute monsters. He shot all of them with a rifle while tracking them - like the Benoits. Except hes been doing it since the Benoits were in diapers.

How does a rifle kill make P&Y, do you mean they would make P&Y if they were killed with a bow?  Just teasing...I knew what you meant.

I know i shouldn't confuse the two but B&C just seems so un-attainable that i don't even think of it. I just go by P&Y regardless of weapon not that it makes a ounce of difference with the score. I mainly bow hunt anyway so its my stand ruler for measuring things up.

OK...my basis ic central and western Ny...here is my take.

a 1.5 year old everage buck will be 4-6 points with 8-10" spread

a 2.5 year old will average 6-8 points with a 10-12" spread

weight 1.5 year---125-140 field dressed

2.5 year 135-155 field dressed.
