And so I guess it will be up to us who do not live in those college areas to take up the slack on the revenue end of things .... eh? We will have little islands of tax Nirvana and poverty zones in the rest of the state as we contribute increased funds to finance the government goods and services  for the chosen few. Little wealth clusters and screw anyone who lives elsewhere.

Real good plan Andy. Do you think the ignorant masses will be fooled by all this smoke and mirrors activity? Well, you just might be right. I can just see the voters bowing down to our state savior as they read only the headlines .... "New York State to be tax free". By the time anyone catches on to the details and the final screw-job, you'll be sitting in the Oval Office. I think this guy has the NYS voters pegged pretty good. Nobody ever said he was stupid ..... just dishonest, corrupt and the morals of a bank robber.

Nothing like campaining on taxpayers money. You got to know by now, that these politicians don't do anything for the people anymore! Their look'in out for number ONE.

Yes, and that's another thing that has caight my attention. It seems like all you see anymore on TV is Cuomo's ugly face and a bunch of campaign rhetoric that sounds exactly like campaign ads. I wonder how legal all that sort of thing is, assuming it is taxpayer money that he's funding these with. What's up with that and why are Republicans and other parties letting him get away with that?

Cuomos approval rating has hit rock bottom. The New York Safe act has done him in. He has do do something to try to get that approval rating somewhere above 50 percentile to even have a chance to run for this states governership. He's has much lower odds to the run for president, if he doesn't get reelected in NY..

On the money line. a governer has X amount of dollars to advertise in any shape, fit, or form, to get his message out. I think this guy, may be extending his credit.

These "Tax Free Zones" have nothing to do with Cabela's coming to NYS do they?

It seems to me that if the government intends to maintain even a show of fair and equal taxation regardless of location within the state, this plan certainly puts an end to that notion. I don't really understand how this is getting any support at all. I have to wonder if there aren't some details that are consistantly being left out of the story or something I am just plain mis-understanding.

I can add some information on the Albion and Medina areas in Orleans county. The Genesee Community College satellite campuses were built with grant money( 1 building each site). I would highly suspect state grant money. This money was pumped in because Orleans is a very depressed county, unemployment rate above 10%, Business shuffle and lower taxed agiculture lands( Farmers are paying some of the highest taxes, just ask them). Orleans also went through a huge reaccessments of properties a few years ago where property owner saw increases, some as high as 50%. The Medina campus is located near a business that is relocating into Niagara county. ( Why? because of more free offerings.) It is also located a few block from, yes a goverment subsides alcohol plant. We just learned this week that a financial firm will be cutting 400 jobs in Albion. The firm oversaw collecting overdue mortgages. Yes, due to the slight increase in the economy, jobs are being lost. The state continues to throw flameable solvents into the fire, without having a real fuel source to keep this fire burning. This program is just more solvent.

e

Mr. Cuomo, if u really want to do something in your term, start cutting social programs in this state. Stop giving free hand outs to incourage out of state residents to move here to freeload. Tap into the unions that control these school districts and cut. Stop talking this, put a casino on every street corner, payback to the Indian language. (I could write a book!) Start adressing the real issues!

"Tax-Free"  sounds good to many.....So does "Free Lunch".  Unfortunately, neither exists in reality...We the guys in the barrel pay for both.

SAFE ACT  +  Gambling amendment to the State Constitution  +  "Tax-Free zones/businesses"  =  the end of Cuomo.........I hope!  (Not holding my breath!)

I'm informed that the NYS Teachers Union will not endorse emperor Andy in the next election.  After crapping on all of the union State employees I doubt he will be endorsed by them as well.

The hard part will be making him look weak in the NYC region.  They love him down there.  Our votes up here mean absolutely nothing without the NYC vote.

Well after reading this article, there are not many companies that can use this tax free zone. Here is the list so whats left?

The list of businesses that don't qualify includes retail and wholesale, restaurants, doctors and dentists, law firms, financial services, accountants and utilities.

This is a prime example of how disingenous they are.  By even entertaining the thought of creating "tax-free zones" they admit that lower taxes in those areas will lure businesses thereby helping the economy and unemployment.

If that's the case then it stands to reason that by lowering taxes across the state instead of in these little pockets, businesses will begin to flourish everywhere, helping everyone, not just little pockets where it might help political prospects.

What? ... cut government handouts and freebies? Are you kidding? How would they buy the votes that get them re-elected?

No, this is much better. Make a big show about being tax-free, and then charge more taxes to the rest of the state to make up for the revenue loss. Heck with this brilliant ploy, they probably will even figure out how to spend even more.

The new Cabelas store on Walden Ave. in Cheektowaga is a classic example. Only U. S. Rep. Brain Higgens, town supervisor Mary Holtz, and the town board members were present at the official building anouncement on Monday. No state or even county official even bothered to show. Politicians would of been swarming the area if a bunch of handouts were given out, as they did when Bass Pro  ( plenty of tax breaks were given) made the announcement to come to Buffalo years ago. These politicians know the ways to get, shall I say, lower mentility people to vote for them! It just makes me want to throw up.
