Well, it is now time to start using my indoor range in the basement. Yes, it is a mere 15 yards, but that only means that he bulls-eyes get smaller ..... lol. I love to shoot, and the winter practice keeps the muscles toned and the form in tact.

 

Anybody else starting to get their indoor shooting going (at home or in the commercial indoor ranges)?

I don't start the basement shooting until January . I can only shoot 11 yards in my basement .

Thought of that today as a matter of fact, I will be at the range of my club this week. Its amazing how much time I have after deer season is done.

I can only shoot about 10 yards in my basement too.  Indoor spot and 3-D leagues don't start until the first week of January.

What kind of backstops/target butts are you guys/gals using for your basement shooting??

I never have but might start. Interested in hearing what kind of backstops you guys use. I could probably pull off 20yds in the basement

wish i had a basement ... but I make do n stand at the front door of the apartment n shoot into the back bedroom, bout 15yds.   like you said the bullzeye's get really small....

I use a Monster Bag inside of a cardboard box with about 2 layers of old carpeting behind the target . I periodically replace the cardboard . The cardboard is used to hold the arrow out straight . If I don't use it the 2nd shot will make the arrow droop in the bag and there is a chance of hitting it with another arrow . The arrows don't penetrate the bag .

I have a 20 yard range in my basement. I built my own target using the target faces from thirdhandarchery.com. I wanna try to find a new bow before I start shooting again. I just don't know if I'll find one I like better than my Switchback XT.

I use a bag target as a backstop, with a "Block" foam target in front of the bag to provide a flat surface for targets. Nothing gets through that. I have an 8-1/2 x 11 target face with 5 little 3/4" diameter bulls-eyes on them, pinned onto the face of the Block.

I think i'll start next door at the club Jan 7th.  that's a once a week league.  then into summer i'll switch over to 3D.  I've practiced down in my basement at only 10 yards.  I figured if I could keep them in the same hole though I'd do alright out around 20 yards on an actual range.  I try to elevate the target though so I'm not just developing form that's aiming down at an angle.

I just use a Rhinehart Rhino block.  at any range it can stop anything I've shot it with, even crossbows.  haven't had an arrow even poke out the other side yet.  that's with shooting in the same spots on the target or my 70lb Evo at 345fps.

I use a block target and attach a 3 spot paper target face to it.  I've never missed the target but if I did I would just end up shooting the concrete wall.  Can't hurt the wall but it would definitely trash the arrow.  LOL!

I do have some funny looking chunks of pounded-out concrete in my block wall. When I was tournament shooting, I used to practice daily in the basement. I had my release set to a very touchy light pull. While getting it set up, there was a couple of times that I went just a tad too far ....lol. I also have an arrow hole in the casement of the door at the middle of the basement. My brother-in-law thought he would try his hand at this archery stuff .... lol.

When I was a kid we shot .22, air rifles and bows in the basement. My father was a machinist and made a metal trap for the rifles. NYPD detective lived next door, he'd come over every so often.

but we now go south for 3 months in Myrtle beach SC, shot yesterday at the practice area, 55 temp and sunny skies.... Sand dune archers

 

first 3d shoot is 3rd week of Jan for ASA. I will be shooting

as a senior master over 72 years young.

3D deer at 20 yards, bag targets at 30 and 40 set up in the barn. No back stop. Haven't put one through the siding yet...knock on wood.

I can do 22yds in the heated shop or 30 in the cold barn. I don't shoot in the barn.

I have a piece of 5 foot square conveyor belting from a quarry for a back stop. Two ply almost 5/8 inch thick. Haven't needed it, but if it wasn't there, well, you know I would.

The third floor in the building I live in is gutted, been empty for years. The building is 72 ft-76ft inside (I was just counting ceiling tiles, estimated for the guy across the hall, lol). There is even a 1/4 loft area that is open to get an elevated position. Hmmm

You guys have got me thinking now. There is even a 1/4 loft area that is open to get an elevated position. Hmmm

 

Would it be illegal since I live in town? I can't legally shoot in my back yard.

i don't even know if the 500 ft rule applies when inside your residence.  not sure.
