sits in trees
Feeling a little bummed that I had to trade my truck in. Due to driving more for work and the addition of a second child I had to down grade to a 4 cylinder car. Feeling bummed about not having a truck. I have my wife's small suv that I can use a cargo carrier on or trailer. Or of I get desperate I'll wrap the deer up and out it in the trunk. Haha. Any one ever been in my boat? I see these fools at the station pumping 120 bucks worth of gas in their F-250s and 1500s all the time and just gotta laugh. Its one thing if you can really afford it but if you have to postpone retirement till your 75 just to put gas in a truck your a dum, dum......
gjs4
I had a Chevy S-10 for almost 10 years . I was starting to put too much into it for repairs and needed a new vehicle and I was getting poor gas milage ., I bought a Subaru Forester in 2009 . It has a 2400# towing capacity so it does what I need to haul a work trailer and another trailer to haul the ATV etc . Hauling the trailers cuts back on the mpg but I am not pulling them every day . There is a specific joy that comes from driving a hippy station wagon with a couple of dead deer on the slide in rack. I average 25 mpg and with the trailer the only thing i lost is my manhood. lol. Probably buying another in time
maytom
My issue is like most, gas mileage. I drive a full size Silverado that only gets 17 mpg. Come next year, going back to a mid-sized truck. While a car would be nice for gas mileage, it's what you can't put into them that makes them a no go for me. SUV's the same thing, not going to load up the back with gas cans, mulch, lawn mower, etc. and trash the inside. Nothing beats a pick-up truck for a do all vehicle. "IF" you can swing it, maybe keep the truck and lease a car? best of both worlds?
Hock3y24
Get body bags for deer if you really need to transport in car. Just heard this idea the other day! Might need to keep a hacksaw handy
ants
My wife is on her 4th Dodge grand caravan, in a row. (The one she has now is a Chrysler Town & Country..same thing) These things are great. When you fold down the back seats, anything you can fit in a pick up (length & width wise) will fit back there. I have had it loaded up with ply wood, I brought home a new dish washer in it all kinds of stuff. It gets around 20mpg, a little better on the highway. WNYBuckHunter
Not me. I live and work in the Penfield area. Just hunt out that way WNYBH. I did haul a 25' stand to the property on Sat. Does that count as "using" my truck? Of course, it was ratcheted down with blankets so no scratching. lol Ahhh, I see a black CC Raptor out that way quite a bit, wasnt sure if it was you. No, the blankets to protect the truck instead of the item you are hauling automatically keep it in the sissy category

Carbonelement
i feel for u i used to hunt and fish out of my 2 door coupe. I probably put more nasty stuff in that car then most people put in the bed of their trucks. The past 2 trucks I have owned have been f350s and would not trade them for the world. The payment sucks but i could not have a car or suv for an everyday driver anymore. Edited March 27, 2014 by WNYBuckHunter Inappropriate language. Please keep it clean

He has this fancy pull out storage system. Neat no doubt. But we all know where the deer is going. My truck.
loworange88
I've owned full size pick ups, small pick ups, and small cars. Each one has carried its fair share of deer, gear and family. I stuffed a buck in the trunk of a Saturn SL1 once. Also put a deer in the back of my wife's 2013 SUV this past season(she doesnt know!!). Make what you have work for you. Adkhunter1590
I feel your pain. I have a third kid on the way and even though the crew cab on my 2011 F150 was huge it isn't enough for 3 kids and a double stroller. Traded it in for a expedition. Nice vehicle but damn does it suck down the gas. Good thing the wife doesn't drive to much! I had a beater car that I was using to go to work with and run errands since it was easier on the wallet to drive that piece of crap around. But it does take a big hit on your masculinity. I just traded that car in last week for a 2010 VW Jetta TDI. Love the little diesel motor. Mpgs are up in the 50 and 60 mpg range. I can drive around and not fill up for weeks now it's great. May not be as cool as my 2010 dodge cummins was with 15 grand in the motor and would snap your neck when stomping on the throttle but you gotta do what you gotta do when you have kids. I do highly suggest a nice used TDI to anyone looking for good mpgs and a nice vehicle to drive. Keep your head up OP it will get better. 8 months ago I lost my job due to a DWI (was driving trucks before, but DWI was recently dropped in court! Woohoo!) and was on the verge of losing my house and everything else. Now I have a job making close to 100K a year doing wayyyyyyy less work than ever before. And if I hadn't gotten the dwi I prolly would still be driving trucks working my ass off 70 hours a week just trying to get by. Funny how life works man if really is. I have been very thankful for the way everything has worked out the last 8 months but man there was some low points that can really bring a guy to his knees. Keep your head up OP good things come to those who work hard and deserve them, I firmly believe that to be the truth

Hunterny28
after driving this car all week on a 40 tank of gas, I am glad I made the switch. I have a fuel efficent car with more than half the miles on the odemoeter. I have my brother on the look out for an older truck to use for crummy days and hunting/hauling. he usually finds a deal- i will use the money that I sold my atv for. I really didnt need the atv as many guys at camp have them for dragging deer. my two feet will do at this point.
