Mr VJP
About 90% of gun owners have not complied. This makes it very hard for Cuomo to claim any victory here. Many Sheriff's an State Police are against it too. http://nation.foxnews.com/2014/04/09/report-estimated-90-percent-new-york-state-gun-owners-refuse-safe-act-registration

phade
While I suspect the registration rate it low, its not like the article is giving any concrete evidence. Just hearsay, unfortunately.
burmjohn
Interesting, now what happens if you don't and you are caught. I unfortunately don't have time for nor want a felony record.

Mr VJP
If they have no intention of giving up theirs, I'm not giving up mine! They outlawed my firearms, proving they have no respect for me, nor the many decades I've spent in the service of my country and state, or my years in law enforcement and emergency services, which proves I'm no criminal. I've never been convicted of any crime, even a misdemeanor, but since my firearms are now outlawed, I'll become an outlaw if they push me hard enough. If enough firearms owners reject this law, more LEO agencies will stand against it, more of the public will learn why it's a bad law and begin to support us, and Cuomo will be exposed as the little tyrant he really is. Don't go quietly into slavery my friends. Cuomo is counting on us having no balls. Don't prove him right. "If you don't have the troopers and you don't have the sheriffs, who have you got? You've got Andrew Cuomo pounding on the table in Albany." Edited April 10, 2014 by Mr VJP

(heres a secret) most of your guns they already know you have.... I bet more than 50% of guns out there are no longer possessed by the original owner, and may very well have passed through several owners at this point, all undocumented private sales...........they're lucky if they know who owns a small fraction of what is out there.
dbHunterNY
you should absolutely 100% comply with the SAFE Act, but that doesn't mean any guns have to be registered at all. there's enough modifications that make pretty much any gun in question not applicable to the law by the law's definition. I know nobody that owns an assault weapon. IF I was anti-gun I would be extremely displeased with our Governor and those who the pushed the SAFE Act so hastily with lack of judgment and due diligence. it has not made much if any head way on preventing gun violence and keep evil guns from being in existence; the NYSP check system isn't in place, the not thought out 7 round limit was thrown out for being arbitrary, with all the options gun owners aren't really being required to register, it's costing municipalities money when it wasn't supposed to, and above all we just had another school incident that wasn't prevented where many kids were lucky their weren't killed. Doc
We can't even get gun owners to the polls. What makes anyone think we could successfully organize any sort of revolution? I'm thinking that authorities would love to have us commit felonies so they could confiscate all of our weapons (no firearms allowed for convicted felons). But don't be counting on an army of Rambos to come charging to your defense. It all looks good at the movies but reality is quite a different matter. Danny
true, but if they want them they will get them, unless you bury them in your yard a search warrant and a dog would find every round of ammo and firearm you own
Doc
Can anybody tell me any advantages of having rifles buried in the back yard or boarded up in the framework of a wall? What is gained by owning a gun that you cannot use without fear of being arrested?

Two Track
How would they know, if they are handed down from someone deceased 20-30 years ago and they were handed down pre-deceased so not in a will. How would they know, if you never purchase ammo in this state or purchased any ammo in the past few years? If you have a friend or family member that is out state that reloads for you, have would they track that? Especially nothing is shipped to you or on your credit card. Persons using the same caliber may buy in larger bulk to reduce their total costs. One person could be placing the order on their card and everyone pays the purchaser their share. They get together and make the needed rounds as a working social event. Not saying that any of this applies to me, but I can see these things happening. I only get to hunt occasionally and never go to a range, so my ammo usage is quite low - good luck knowing what I have by my ammo purchases. Besides, for now I have nothing that requires registration. Still the law is a bad law and should be ruled as unconstitutional. Even the method of its passing was illegal in my book. If most does not take effect for a year from when written, then how much of an emergency was it?

Danny
in all seriousness i could care less what people own IF you are a law abiding citizen, i personally have no need for an AR or any high capacity weapon. my guns come out a few times a year to hunt with, occasionally some target practice and skeet shooting thats about it, if you a collector of military rifles i think thats awesome, but what i think is comical are the ones that think because they have a few military rifles they are going to be the one man militia and stay boarded up in their homes while the gov. comes to take their guns away fighting back... you would be overtaken in a heart beat

Exactly where in the Constitution or the Amendments (specifically the 2nd) does it require "need"?
