Borngeechee
Who uses them when hunting? Or are u a good judge of distance.
Red
I use one during bow season when hunting a new area I'll pull out the range finder and range a a handful of trees and other land marks then once the deer comes by your not fiddling with the range finder you can use one of your land marks to judge how far away your deer bear or whatever is. Good luck Edited August 16, 2014 by Red
Elmo
I use them when bow hunting where the distance between 30 and 40 yards is a little harder to tell with the naked eye but will mean the difference between a clean shot, a complete miss, or a wounded deer. For gun season I don't really use them. My gun is flat enough beyond the distance I tend to shoot. If the deer is really far away during gun season, I'll range it more out of curiosity but will then try to move within my range. While there are times I've had deer during gun season where the accuracy of a range finder is required, I never pulled the trigger on it. dbHunterNY
Im good at judging yardage especially on the ground I mostly hunt at. with a rangefinder I'm great though. make it a point to practice and hone your skills with the device instead of just using it. you'll never question yardage. I use a Nikon Riflehunter 1000 it's got a lighted display, angle compensation, and goes out to 1000 yards. I use it for hunting with a bow, when turkey hunting, with a muzzleloader, and with a rifle. I range a few key landmarks all around my spot. After a while, I have it memorized.
fasteddie
I range a few trees around my stand when i first get up there so i have an idea of yardage... Same here . I have a 500 yard range finder that I havn't used since I bought a Halo ARC with a distance compensator . I try to range something at 20 yards and then at 30 to get an idea for a shot when a deer comes in range .
genesee_mohican
I carry one in my pack all bow and gun season. One of the most important items.

chiefbkt
I use a Redfield raider rangefinder. Wife got it for me a few years back. I always carry it in my pack but mostly use it during archery season. I usually do what Red said and mark a few ranges on trees. They are a useful tool to have. landtracdeerhunter
I'm old fashion in this respect. Still like to judge distance with my own eye finder. Edited August 31, 2014 by landtracdeerhunter
