I've read that the synthetic stock is not the best...how would you two gents rate your rifles? Accuracy aside, the actual rifle for fit and finish. Thanks. stoneam2006
I have savage axis 270 syn camp stock...love it shoots great and I don't know if you can beat for price

BBDEric
I have a savage 300wsm and 270. These guns are built for the field. Meant to be scratched and hunted hard with. If you want a good looking gun to show off at the range this is not the gun. But I bet it shoots just as well as the high end high finish guns on the market. Hock3y24
I threw a boyds thumbhole on the 223 and a prarie on my 308. Much better than synthetic.
Hock3y24
Loworange88 the synthetic stock is very flexible and cheap, the boyds is great though, I also lowered the trigger pull by changing springs. I have just over $400 into this gun with the stock and factory cheap scope. ( which holds it's zero well)

Woodjr55
The bolt on the axis is a long action correct? How's it handle the small 223 rounds for cycling?
Hock3y24
Never had an issue with 223 or
diplomat019
i have no complaints on my rifle. the stock, bolt, cartridge are all up to par with me. i shot 55 grain american eagle out of mine at about 125 yards into 1 inch groups (off a shooting bench). I bought mine with the intentions of varmint hunting, but haven't taken it into the woods yet. just had fun at the range. for the price i don't thin you would regret it. Pygmy
Function over form... Not a bad thing... It's nice to know that you don't need to refinance the house to buy a rifle that shoots good groups...
The_Real_TCIII
I have savage axis 270 syn camp stock...love it shoots great and I don't know if you can beat for price I was just given one, can you recommend a cartridge? Strictly for deer
stoneam2006
Never shot a deer with it but I like the fusions for when I go bear hunting up north....again never actually seen it in flesh just know they seem to shoot the best...all grains seem to be about the same
Hock3y24
The fusion is a good deer round, I prefer the hornaday american whitetail. Better groups for me

Check out the ruger american to same price point and another quality budget rifle....i don't own on but have shot a few and seem on par with the axis. phade
That is nice from that gun...I really wanted an Axis before I bought my 700, but I wanted a thumbhole stock. I even looked at Boyd's and they didn't make them then, but they made them for the 700. Now my 700 is at Remington and I won't even be able to hunt with it since the recall is taking a 12 week turnaround time.
Hock3y24
Nice part about ruger american is adjustable trigger, axis 2 has one also though
Elmo
Now my 700 is at Remington and I won't even be able to hunt with it since the recall is taking a 12 week turnaround time. I sent mines in on June 12th. Arrived back at my door steps on August 25th. For what it's worth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
